I've got one denim jumper. I mentioned in another thread that it was a hand-me-down from a public school teacher. Do you think it would still count?

Not only would it count, but it is proof that she is being assimilated. Many public school teacher's children are home schooled.

It's not John Gotto either. It's John Gatto or more commonly John Taylor Gatto. I was wondering why you wanted to quote mobsters and am quite happy to know that you aren't.

ROFLOL! I thought maybe she was going more for the taking over the world angle instead of the homeschooling angle or something. I had thought they were part of the mob, but decided I must have been thinking of the wrong person or something.

Here are a couple of quotes I found that were interesting:

"A tax supported, compulsory educational system is the complete model of the totalitarian state."
-- Isabel Patterson

"I suppose it is because nearly all children go to school nowadays and have things arranged for them that they seem so forlornly unable to produce their own ideas. "
--Agatha Christie

Here is a link that has a lot of really cool quotes: http://knowledgehouse.info/quotes-hs.html

Here are some of my favorites:

“Home schooling is a very old way of doing things. If you look at any of the bills in your wallet or the coins in your pocket, they all have a picture of a homeschooler on them.” ~William Lloyd

“I believe it would be much better for everyone if children were given their start in education at home. No one understands a child as well as his mother, and children are so different that they need individual training and study. A teacher with a room full of pupils cannot do this. At home, too, they are in their mother’s care. She can keep them from learning immoral things from other children.” ~Laura Ingalls Wilder

That surprises me that Laura Ingalls Wilder said that. That is quite interesting.

This is the place for discussing the particulars. Any idea?

Have a lot of kids, love them, and raise them in "Calvinism on steroids." Make sure they read R. J. Rushdoony and David Chilton's two most important books (Paradise Restored and Productive Christians in an Age of Guilt Manipulators) Help them find mentors as they enter their teenage years. Read to them for an hour or so each night. Make them a part of your ministry life -- kids love to make guests feel at home. Especially exotic guests, like Muslim students.

I'm not Calvinist, RJR_fan, but that's okay. We can still take over the world together.

Ezri, that is so cute! Maybe we should all use that for an avatar instead?

Okay, we need to decide. We're taking over the world next Tuesday, and we're getting low on time.

Does anyone else have any quote proposals? If so, make them now. Also, if you want to nominate another avatar idea, please post now. I'll probably use polls to narrow down what we're going to do.

Cute avatar, Alisha!

Okay, I'm going to put up a poll so we can decide on which avatar idea to use.

Here are the nominations:

1: Individual avatars featuring jumpers (each of us would have a different one)

2. The Ren and Stimpy in jumpers avatar that Ezri made.

3. The cat and the yarn one that Alisha linked to.

Hmm, maybe I can't do it with no moderator powers anymore. Can someone with powers please start a poll? If not, I'll have to start another thread.

I have powers, but not that kind.

Did anyone else read in the last TOS mag the quote from a south african minister of education? It might be a good one:

Shoot, can't find my magazine....anyway, it said something like, "Homeschoolers should not be allowed to push their loony, perverse and subversive ideas on the nation" LOL

Are you nominating that as a quote?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see any way to add a poll to an existing thread. Alas my powers are not limitless.

I know I used to be able to do that. If you go to my orignal post, hit edit and I think there will be a place where you can add a poll.

Right...edit her first post and click "add poll". Lisa will need to tell you what she wants in the poll.

Here's what I'd like in my poll:

1: Individual avatars featuring jumpers

2. The Ren and Stimpy in jumpers

3. The cat and the yarn avatar

Thank you so much for helping out a poor, powerless little person!
