First, let's start off by assuming that you are older then 18.

Fiction:
Lord of the Rings Trilogy(assuming that you have not read them yet)
War and Peace by Tolstoy. (if you have time, that is)
Any book by Agatha Christie(GREAT mystery writerm wonderful characters)
Books by Frank Peretti are oft recommended(Christian, supernatural fiction)

Non-fiction:
The Cost of Discipleship by Bonhoeffer
Sodom had no Bible by Leonard Ravenhill
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

You could also browse the other dozen or so "help me find a book/author" threads that already exist. Or the "what are you reading now?" thread.

Auben -> RE: i need a book to read (3/25/2008 12:05:02 PM)

Or the Book Review Thread.

Read Jacob's Trouble...it will change your mind, yout life and maybe your eternity. You will see where you really are and where you really stand.

"A Prayer For Owen Meany" - John Irving
"Mere Christianity" - C.S. Lewis
"Foucault's Pendulum" - Umberto Eco

Extraordinary books.

StephK -> RE: i need a book to read (4/20/2008 9:12:44 PM)

Definitely read the book review thread there are a lot of extraordinary books that have been reviewed.

If you're into science (not sci-fi) at all, I recommend "Death by Black Hole" by Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

Here's a free link to The Man Who Was Thursday by GK Chesterton.
