This will be my 7th year to go to a homeschool convention. I must be strange because the speakers are my favorite part. They really recharge my batteries and help me remember why I'm homeschooling. It's in April, and after the struggles we seem to always have in February and March, I need to be refreshed and reminded of the bigger picture. Our convention has keynotes, workshops and a vendor area. They schedule everything so you can go to the sessions and still have time to shop. I go to the one in Peoria, Illinois. It's not as huge as the state convention near Chicago, but it's big enough for me. We get a small discount for belonging to the association that puts on the convention. It will cost $55 for my husband, son and me to go. You do have to pay the fee even if you only want to see the vendors. They claim that it helps offset the expenses of the vendor space. When I was a new homeschooler, it was a big help to get hands on the curriculum. It was an even bigger help to talk to other homeschoolers and find out what worked or didn't work for them, and why. Since my son struggled with some learning difficulties, it was such a blessing to meet other homeschoolers who were dealing with similar issues.
