ORIGINAL: cynthia I plan to go to the WHO (Washington Homeschool Organization) convention this year. It's not until June. My hubby and I are going to the WHO Conference on Saturday. Hoping kiddos will get to spend the day with Auntie so we can attend some of the speakers and really focus on vendors. Suzanne

ORIGINAL: Calea37 I'm thinking about attending my first one ever. Do you who have been to them before think they are worth it? It would be a three hour drive; no biggie if it is worthwhile, but I hate to waste the time/money/effort if they aren't really helpful. I would check out the schedule online prior to so you can organize your time with workshops or speakers you would like to attend. Also, have objectives in mind, what are you looking for and what is your budget. Give yourself plenty of time to just wander the vendor hall too, it can be really fun to see "what's out there". Are you taking kiddos?

Well let me know and maybe we can meet. I am going Friday. Are you? I am seriously considering it. Are you going alone or with kids or hubby?? I am going kinda alone, but kinda with a couple other ladies from my church, but we probably won't stick together. PM with more details that way we can find one another. I've never been to this one, I usually go up to Indy.

Dh is probably not coming with me, but he might. When it gets closer, we should see if we can meet. That would be fun.

This will be my 7th year to go to a homeschool convention. I must be strange because the speakers are my favorite part. They really recharge my batteries and help me remember why I'm homeschooling. It's in April, and after the struggles we seem to always have in February and March, I need to be refreshed and reminded of the bigger picture. Our convention has keynotes, workshops and a vendor area. They schedule everything so you can go to the sessions and still have time to shop. I go to the one in Peoria, Illinois. It's not as huge as the state convention near Chicago, but it's big enough for me. We get a small discount for belonging to the association that puts on the convention. It will cost $55 for my husband, son and me to go. You do have to pay the fee even if you only want to see the vendors. They claim that it helps offset the expenses of the vendor space. When I was a new homeschooler, it was a big help to get hands on the curriculum. It was an even bigger help to talk to other homeschoolers and find out what worked or didn't work for them, and why. Since my son struggled with some learning difficulties, it was such a blessing to meet other homeschoolers who were dealing with similar issues.

I contacted the organizer and asked if it was possible to visit the vendor room without actually partaking in the 'formal' conference (especially since the vendor room has times separate from the conference times). I was told NO, and to go to one of the local group's resale displays. Some conferences have a Thursday night Vendor Hall only ticket. There are no workshops or speakers, just the vendors open. Which seems to be a great option for everyone. You might want to talk to organizers about something like that in the future, the vendors wouldn't object to more time to show off their products.

Our conference is in the Civic center, so they couldn't have the space any earlier without paying more fees.

Sorry got too excited and hit the wrong button---There are 2 conf. in KS one in April in Kansas City and one in June in Wichita. I have been to both and Prefer the KC one over the other Seems to me that there is a reduced fee if only going into the vendor area. V
