I hope the glasses thing works out Donna. I have a feeling my son will end up needing glasses, which is scary. He is very absent-minded.

Yes, the library books had been renewed a bunch of times, and weren't overdue. She just thought they'd been out too long. They had (since last semester), but it wasn't her problem. I take R to the library for storytime on Mondays so I have a reason to go there on a regular basis. That helps. Without that I don't do so well on getting stuff back on time. Which is crazy since it's in the same town as us. I really have no excuse.

I wasn't done posting....

HI Kylie, hi Debilyn!

How is Mike today? Did they tell you when he could start eating more solid foods? I don't remember what they told us. I was just afraid that food would get stuck in the holes and bad things would happen. E just has this thing where if you tell her she can't do something (i.e. eat solid foods) it makes her want to do it desperately. So we argued a lot about what she should be eating.

Hi all-

I had a talk with Liz's VP last night. He said for me to write him a letter and make a copy of it for the principal and to photocopy everything that we have regarding Liz's flight and they'll talk to Mrs. L (algebra) about the situation. He did say that Mrs. L knows her job, but she's not known for compromising with parents and/or students and for Liz to even stand a chance at getting a passing grade on these pages he and the prinicipal will have to intervene. So I got that done first thing this morning.

We did finally get her luggage last night. They were supposed to send some paperwork that stated the date the luggage was returned and that it was their error. However, the courier didn't know anything about that and only left us with a receipt that had no date on it. The man was quite snobby about the receipt and grabbed it from me and scribbled the date on the bottom. When I attempted to explain the situation to him and that I needed his copy or a copy which had the date of the bottom. He said his company didn't allow that. I asked if we could call his boss. He said he didn't have time and left.

Hopefully the school can work with what I sent in.

wow, she sounds like she's really something. Liz won't have her again will she?

Mike is doing better today, thanks for asking. We went to omaha today for a dr appt so we stopped at McD's on the way home. The oral surgeon said he could have soft hamburgers today so Mike was glad we went. I know he can't have chips for 2 weeks, which will make him pretty unhappy. Maybe he'll lose some weight though.

Really? If someone kept renewing them for you then it really wasn't her call I don't think. She could say that they can't be renewed again but that's about it I think.

I agree, it wasn't her call to make. She did say that she didn't think she could renew them again, but she didn't tell me that they weren't overdue yet. I think the person in charge down there would have renewed them again, or would have called me. I asked my son today how often they went to the library, and he said not very often any more. So that's probably why they ended up stuck in his desk for so long.

I wonder why no chips for two weeks Kath. Because the little pieces could get stuck? I'm glad Mike is feeling a little better.

Denim, I'm glad the administration is working with you. Aggravating though.

Hello everyone! Once again I let several days slip by without checking this thread.

Our plan with Nathan's 'Good Behavior Box' is going well. He got in trouble the first three days back to school for hitting on the playground so he missed getting to pick out something the first week, but after that he's only been in trouble once (for goofing off in the hallway on the way back to class ). I asked him the other day if his day goes a lot better when he behaves and he said yes.

I had my wisdom teeth out when I was in high school. I got a piece of tortilla chip stuck in there point down one time and OWEEEEE did that ever hurt.

That's exactly it. nothing with seeds either like fresh strawberries, or poppyseed muffins! The surgeon that did Aryn's surgery a couple months ago had an extensive list of things he didn't want her to have. She practically lived on pudding, yogurt, smoothies and milkshakes for 3 or 4 days! However she only took her heavy duty pain meds once and tylenol only a few times, say a couple times a day for 4 or 5 days. She did however do that antibiotic rinse twice a day and her salt water rinse after EVERY time she ate for two weeks! She said that that helped ALOT!

Back to school on Monday here! Kinda bumming really! It's been a good spring break - lots of relaxing and just goofing around.

Ethan through us for a loop the other night! Brian is taking a college level Logic class and was studying for a test Thursday night. Ethan walks in and asks his dad what he is studying so Brian shows him a simple logic formula they were using to determine the logic of some sentence - I don't understand it at all but Ethan was curious so he was so focused and he actually understood it and was able to within a few moments come up with his own sentence and formula for it! I was blown away! It's all gobblygook to me but Ethan understood it! He is brighter then he lets on sometimes. He actually confided in me that he sometimes doesn't want the other kids to know he is as smart as he is because he's afraid some of his classmates will tease him like they do one other very smart child in his class.

oh well I suppose I should get back to some laundry. It's so wet and muddy here that everytime the kids go out to play they come in so muddy! Thank God for Clorox for colors!

Blessings,

Garsy

We had rain all weekend, and it looks like rain today, too. We went to the circus this weekend, an afternoon show, so the kids didn't spend much time playing at our house. We did play some board games together.

Spring break will be cool for a day or two, then warm back up again. This warm/cold and cold/warm is really playing havic with sinuses around here. Ugghh!

Anyone know where I can locate those bracket thingies that attach to the top of a wooden swingset and have the hooks coming down that hold the swing chains? Jeepers that was clear as mud. Kinda like the mud under our swingset right now. The same swingset with two of those thingies that are now broken. We had two of them break this weekend WHILE Aryn was swinging of course. The first time - Saturday - she fell and brusied up her elbow pretty bad, but no major injuries. The second time was just yesterday when when the chain came flying down it slapped her across the face! She's got a nasty bruise from her right temple, across her cheek to her chin. Poor kid!

The kiddos are back at school today. I'm waiting for the younger ones to get home and then we'll head into town to pick Ty up from play practice. No scouts tonight tho. That's nice!

Blessings,

Garsy

Nope because Liz will be homeschooled next year.

Garsy, I can't picture what you're asking for, but if you take one of the broken ones with you to Lowe's or Home Depot, maybe they can help?

I'm thinking that's what I'm going to have to do. Thankfully, hubby's sister works for Lowe's and we can use her discount!

Garsy, a local hardware store may have the same thing (and sometimes at a cheaper price). Again, you'll need to take the broken ones with you. Good hunting!

Garsy, sounds like you mean an S hook. Anyway that's what Larry uses on the swingset. Lowes, Home depot, local hardware store will have it.

Poor Aryn!

Mike went back to school today and says his teeth hurt pretty bad. I also found out he is swishing water or lysterine pretty vigorously to remove food debri so I told him to swish gently or he could knock those blood clots out. I did check with a flashlight yesterday and they look pretty good.

I don't know if it is a good idea for Mike to use the listerine. I had some gum damage one time and used listerine it made it much worse. The dentist indicated that it could aggravate some conditions (bacteria?).

Is he doing his warm salt water rinses?

I'll tell him about it. Thanks! I'm not sure about the warm salt water rinses. Honestly I thought the paper the dr gave us said not to rinse at all.

It seems to me that anytime I've had dental work done that rinsing was hardly ever encouraged at all. Then again, I haven't had to have any dental work for about 10+ years.

The algebra teacher, VP and I have a conference on Monday.

Kath, I think my daughter had something the Dr. gave her to rinse with, but I don't remember for how long.

Kara, our spring break was the middle of March, so now a distant memory here too.

Denim, I was wondering how the algebra situation was going; I hope the meeting goes well. Is your daughter excited about homeschooling next year?

Hi Danasmom, Debilyn, Donna, and Julia!

Garsy, your poor daughter. Hopefully you can find the part easily.

Yes she's excited, but she's not so happy with the reading requirements that I've laid out so far.

She saw The Grapes of Wrath come in the mail today. She says that it doesn't look as exciting as James Patterson or Catherine Coulter. lol!
I don't think she realizes that it's Steinbeck and she likes his writing..... as she puts it, he's ok for an old dead guy.

My oldest hasn't liked most of her reading; she's not a big reader though. She did like The Bell Jar, which I thought she would, because I remembered liking it. She liked the first 170 pages of The Fountainhead, but then she said she didn't like it anymore.

Those who had spring break in March, do you get out of school in May? I can't imagine having a break in February, then again in March (which isn't even spring weather here ), and then nothing until June!

The kids here get out the very last week of June (usually the 26th or 27th) ... the only 'break' in February is our new stat holiday (Family Day), and then March Break the first week of March, then Good Friday & Easter Monday ... then Victoria day ("May 24") and that's it until the end of June when they get out for summer.

We get out May 20something.

I saw The Bell Jar at Barnes/Noble the other day and thought about buying it. I remember really liking it.
