Our friends are correct! We should bring the Torchwood discussion to it's own spot. So, I made one. Do you think BBC-A would listen if enough people begged for the clean version? The concept of the show is a good one, and they weave the Doctor Who characters in there too. I just can't stomach the sexual stuff. I must have missed the episode where you learned that Jack had a wife and child that were missing....what episode was that on?

I thought the BBC America versions were already edited...thought they were pretty much PG-13? I haven't seen them, but my friend who's obsessed with these two shows has talked about it being edited.

I don't know if the BBC America versions are edited; they may be edited simply for time which has to happen with Doctor Who as well, for both SciFi and BBC-A. As for them being PG013....well, I guess. There's very little on non-movie/non-premium channels that would be higher than PG-13. Except for some of those awful shows on FX, and some of the imported animes on Adult Swim, which are sometimes rated TV-MA simply for showing bloody violence when monsters are killed. It's just that almost every week on Torchwood Jack has to be at least kissing someone, usually male. I think it's Russell T. Davies' (producer of Doctor Who and Torchwood) revenge on the BBC for not allowing him to steam up Doctor Who, which I'm sure he was forbidden to do contracturally. Davis is gay and John Barrowman is gay, and I think Davis loved that he could create a bisexual/omnisexual hero. One that everyone on the team loves almost like a god, which I think is really getting heavy-handed. That now they feel compelled to throw in the Jack/Gwen thing (I worte it wrong in the Doctor Who thread - the actress' name is Eve, her charcter's name is Gwen). It's called dropping anvils, when a relationship is hinted at like that but nothing happens. Even though that relationship isn't going anywhere any time soon, at any point, any character on Torchwood may be getting involved with another team member and/or the alien, bad guy and/or tragic guest star of the week. At any rate, I guess it's easy to tell that I Have mixed feelings about the show. I think if the writers and producers would take emphasis off the sex, the show would be better.

I agree. It would be a pretty good show without it!

Ahh, I didn't know that, stateofgrace. It's rumored that people will die in the episode of Torchwood tomorrow...maybe that will limit the sex for a little while.

YES!!!!! Jack is Bo. That might also be a driving element about why Jack is so open to "gender" - he ends up being just a big giant head...in a big giant jar of goop. how depressing would that be? btw...I am NOT trying to justify watching this show and I'm not saying that as a Christian, we should all be engaging in a lifestyle such as Jack. I am merely looking for support and logic in defining the character of Jack within the show and all that.

ORIGINAL: doinkdom I think Jack is drawn to "people" and not necessarily gender. Culturally, the Time Agents appear to have been in a culture (in the future) where anything goes. When Captain John (aka Spile aka James Marsters) was on the show, Gwen was driving him somewhere and he was looking out the window saying something like..."She's attractive....he's attractive...oh, THAT's attractive." Gwen just looked at him and said, "THAT's a dog."

Just finished watching the season finale. I have to say, that was the best episode I've seen of the show. I doubt they'll edit very much out of it, as it was all plot and no sex. A tearjerker for sure.

I hear there may be significant things happening in the season finale. I'll have to go dig up some spoilers.

It's pretty easy to dig up the spoilers, stateofgrace. I did before I watched it, but it didn't lessen the impact of the story. It really was a great story, and nice to see they didn't have to completely rely on innuendo. There was a little, but greatly diminished in comparison to the rest of this season, really there was no more than in the Captain Jack episodes of Doctor Who. I've always found John Barrowman's acting a little cheesy in Torchwood, but he had me crying in this episode, along with the rest of the cast. Except for Gwen. Maybe one day she'll redeem herself, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Has anyone else seen this yet?

Oh, my, I just found the spoilers. It sounds really sad! But it does tie up some aspects of the show.

Does anyone who watches both Doctor Who and Torchwood think that Jack is the future Bo on Doctor Who. Bo is the big giant head thing far into the future on Doctor Who. Yes, he is. That gets addressed in Dr. Who and alluded to in both shows.

ZazzyPaws...I would gather that you REALLY didn't like The X-Files.

Season finale...when does that happen? We just saw the episode (claiming to be New) this past Saturday where the people that the rift takes and gives back are kept on an island. Gwen so work on my nerves in that one. But, I don't wanna miss the season finale.

I think the US was running two or so weeks behind the UK on Torchwood, so I would expect the season finale within the next couple of weeks. If I remember, I'll check the set-top box guide tonight and see if it's this weekend. ZazzyPaws, you aren't kidding about the X-Files? You must be really young. My 18 yo has seen at least a few episodes. I think the repeats are running in the wee hours of the morning on TNT and SciFi in the US. Expect to hear more about it, though, when the movie comes out this summer.

I've seen all the X-Files from the beginning, when they were new. I can always tell in re-runs which season is being watched by Scully's hairstyle and amount of makeup she wore. I remember crying when the FBI guy who worked with the Lone Gunman guys locked himself in that room and died to protect all of them. I also had high hopes for the spin-off with the Lone Gunman, but it didn't happen.

ORIGINAL: ZazzyPaws Nope, haven't seen 'em. I've heard of them, noticed reruns playing on TV, but never watched. Btw, I'm 15. OK, that makes sense. I don't think my 15 yo DD has seen any of them.
