I am no fan of CPS, but if a child was being abused, I wouldn't stand on an anti-CPS principle and let the abuse continue! That's just sick.

The abuse in foster care can be greater than at home. You do not know my heart. Labeling me as sick is just mean.

If that attitude is set in concrete it might well lead to permitting child abuse and/or molestation.
I personally do not deal directly with CPS, but will call the sheriff's dept. in a heartbeat when I find out about child mistreatment.

Well I have, called CPS, but with prayer, and guidence from someone who knew the score. I have alot of social worker friends.iIt is not something I would ever do in a rash manner, without these things listed above, unless I witnessed something going on dangerous at the moment. I called the police a few years ago, when driving by a steet, accidently a dead end. A very large man was beating a baby in a ditch, I mean a little baby dresses only in a diaper with his fist. I did not have a cell phone at the time, and was pregnant also, so I screamed at the man, he ran, I turned around on the dead-end street and called from nearest pay phone.

Just because you called the cops doesn't mean CPS will be involved. If it involves children, the cops will often bring CPS with them.

That's because we only HEAR of the negative. There is a couple locally that I've known for 9 years now and they have fostered several children in those 9 years from infants to teenagers, adopting 3 of these kids and seeing some of the teens through graduation and into adulthood, TREATING them just like the rest of their biological children (3). Our local news did a piece on them not all that long ago - but it's just not something that is picked up nationwide. My own parents were foster parents for many years while I was growing up and if you asked the teenaged boys THEN if they thought my father was strict you would have gotten an earful and plenty of it negative. But nowdays with two of those boys currently sitting in prison - they have BOTH told my parents that they wish they would have listened to my parents.
Sure the negative is out there - I hear plenty of that as well - BUT we should all know by now that nice and cheery doesn't sell newspapers or advertising time on news programs. Plus people LOVE to watch and think - "Man, I don't have it so bad afterall!"

You are correct, it is just my experience that If the Sheriff's Dept. is involved things seem to get handled better than by CPS themsleves.
CPS's only solution seems to be to take the kids and put them somewhere else. The Sheriff's Office has more and sometimes better solutions.

It was night, I stopped shouted he ran with baby. I was eight months pregnant on a dead end street, with no weapon, no cell phone. I mean I am a small woman, who if not have been very pregnant, would have chased him down, and tried my best to do something to grab the baby, whatever. I could not have caught the big ape if I wanted too, at that time. What else could I have done?

And then what would you have done with the child? Someone would have had to take custody of the child in lightshineon's case, and eventually, even if the child was taken by the sheriff's officers, if it was determined there was NO family available or suitable to take care of the abused child - they would have ended up in the foster care system.

Garsy, your story made me think of a friend of mine who grew up in foster care. She is in her forties now. She has very negative memories of her biological family, but positive memories of her foster family. A year or so ago her foster mother passed away, and she traveled a great distance to go to the funeral, as did many others this lady had been foster mother to. It was a time of celebration of a great Christian lady who had done a great deal of good for a lot of hurting kids.

I think most foster families are blessings. I am sure not all of them, but I have known foster kids, and it was good, much better than the previous siutation,. I know some have led to adoption. I remember one girl when I was a Teen, lived with an Elderly lady as foster care. They mutually cared for each other. I remember the lady was kind and a very good Christian.
I guess, we need to pray for the best thing for these children, and that abuse stops in this cult. Prayer works, and we can pray for them very faithful way, the Lord will hear us.

I have seen some good ones on the news but mostly we hear the stories of young children ( under 3 ) who are killed by foster parents. In every case the foster parent had several complaints but the social worker did not want to loose a home. Social workers like that need to go to jail IMO. Knowing that a child is in danger and doing nothing should be a criminal offence if they are in the states care. I dont know if it is like that in all states but I know on our local news they said that Social Workers were never charged even though the ER had written reports for the other times the toddlers were in there with obvious abuse by their foster parents.

I had a feeling this was the true story! There was never any evidence that kids were in immediate harm so they have been ordered back to their parents. That is just like CPS to think they can pull kids from their parents just because they do not like how the kids are raised. That is why I think they need to completely re do that system.
