I think the best bet for trying to save the quilts would be an enzamatic or bacterial cleaner. These products actually break down organic matter to remove the offending odor. I would try soaking the bedding in a solution, per the label, then put them wet into the washing machine and wash with regular soap and water and then hang them to dry outside. If that didn't work, I'd try WOF's suggestion. Drying them outside can make a huge difference. It's not just the fresh air, but the action of the sunshine in the fabric that removes odors and even stains.
