A number of months ago I posted that I thought Condi Rice should run for president.
Now I am reading of rumors that she is in the running for McCain's VP.
Do you think it will happen?
How much of a change in the race do you think it would bring, if any.
I personally really like and admire her. She is one tough cookie!

I give Dr. Condoleezza Rice a lot of props for her accomplishments. She's the most powerful black woman in american government so that's nothing to turn your nose at.
Unfortunately I disagree with her politics and her unyeilding loyalty to Bush. People are going to take into heavy consideration of her connection to the failures of this administration. McCain has attempted to distance himself from the Bush Administration, so to have a loyal Bushite in Dr. Rice as a running mate would do more to hurt McCain than help.
To answer the questions, no and no

She'd do nothing to combat the Dem's inevitable accusations that McCain will be more of the same.

Unfortunately (or fortunately??) I don't think the vast majority of Americans would even understand or bother to take the time to understand your point here. Maybe I'm overly cynical but it seems to be that Obama's very existence on the National stage proves that nobody's thinking really hard about this election.
My concern with Rice was always that it would be seen as pandering: "I see your black man and I see your woman; I raise you one black woman!" But I think he could probably even get away with it so why not? I know somebody's going to say "vote third party for ___________" (that we've never heard of who's really not qualified either) but I don't see any good options there either. We're doing to the least of all evils with this election. And maybe that's better. Nobody will be going into it expecting McCain to do anything brilliant for conservatism or anything else just to be disappointed like with GWB. I'd support McCain and Rice, or McCain and Bozo the Clown, at this point as our only chance of maybe not being a socialist country (or any more so) in four years. I don't think it matters.

I think she is great! Smart, determined, and takes no bull. She reminds me of most black women.

Yes, but having a key member of the Bush administration as second in command would give them a lot more ammunition.
One of McCain's biggest selling points is that he isn't Bush, he'll have to play that up.

I hate to be cynical here, but if Rice is considered it will have less to do with her talents and intelligence, which appear to legion, and more to do the fact that she will provide a counter to the liberal attraction of a first woman/black in executive office.
And because she is both, she will obviously provide an option for division we now see in the Democratic party over the issue.
In addition, she will be able to say things about Barak Obama that the very white John McCain could not without being accused of being racist.

I respect and admire Dr. Rice, but I don't think McCain would be particularly politically astute in asking her to be his running mate.

Very few things. She has endured segregation,church bombings etc. and earned her way to the top,but to most middle aged blacks(30-50)<who have only read about segregation and the civil rights mvt she ain't black enough.
I like Secretary Rice a great deal. But I believe she'll be seen as a prop or tool just to gain the presidency. People wont see her true achievments and qualifications.

Hmm...that sentiment isn't being reflected in any polling. McCain is far ahead of either of the two Democrats right now, even in places such as New York and California. When the democrat is behind in New York, it's pretty bad.

Naw,
Ms. Rice needs to go and sit down somewhere, go back to teaching.
Most Black poeople I talk to do NOT like her. I don't think that vote would go that way because of her.
I forgive but can never forget her doing Katrina.

Depends on whether one's boss is worthy of that loyalty. In this case that loyalty could be a sign of weakness.
Who of us is worthy? As a born-again Christian, I know that none of us are worthy....
Worthy in whose estimation? Yours or mine or hers?

Taking a position as the vice president would be a step down for Dr. Rice. It can be one of the most frustrating positions in all of American government, waiting for the president to die is depressing otherwise the only time they vote in the senate is when there is a tie and how often does that happen, rarely.

McCain needs to appoint a Washington outsider. Perhaps a current/former governor (Huckabee or Romney}
