Most people who are worth millions don't have that money sitting in the bank. They have it invested in businesses that provide jobs to millions of people.

Those millions of people provide for themselves and for others by giving money to support missionary work, medical research and so on.

You don't get to be wealthy by not "working your money".

inthysite,

You mentioned McCain. Something about his charitable contributions kinda touched me and helped me see his heart.

He gives alot of money to help find hidden landminds (sp??) in other countries. To me that just gave me a glimpse into who he is and what he thinks about.

-----Edit-----

OK so it's not "minds" is it? LOL Is it landmines?

I can quote over 100's of Scripture that say give to the poor.

But you cannot find any that tells a Christian to snatch money from the wealthy and give it to the poor. Not one. The scriptures are God's revelation of Himself to mankind.

God does not desire the wealthy man's money. He desires their heart.

Yep,

And they will buy condoms with it, go to the public school that is manditory to attend, teach our children how to use it to have safe sex with both a man or/and a woman (whatever choice you make or with both at the same time) and tell them how to go about getting an abortion if the condom gets breaks.

What I gather from reading Tracy, NYC, et al is: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need (or needs)" is their credo also.

I guess this what the 'enlightened" are thinking? It hasn't worked anywhere it was tried. (Soviet Union and Cuba to name just two). Why do some people persist in wanting to try it again? It was a colossal failure then. Do these folks think they have found how to make it work? In the limited scale that it is being practised here in the US (IRS, government handouts, etc.) have only strengthened the dependence on government. The American work ethic that made this country great is fading out and being replaced by people with their hands out waiting for their next "care package" from Big Brother.

They think they can drape it in the Stars and Stripes and hide it under the auspices of our democratic system and it'll work just fine.

Yarp. That "snatching it from their hands" quote is pure thievery, nothing more. I don't care how much or little a man has--or how he gained or lost it--taking his wealth by force is robbery, and dirty class warfare at its most crass. Karl Marx would be thrilled.

And that works really with those whose world is not much larger than their video games, the latest hit tunes, and that which ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, et al feeds them in ten second sound bites.

Ouch! That's a bit harsh don't you think? How would you feel if someone came to your house in the middle of the night or one day when you were gone and took 1/3 of what you owned?

The way you sound, the attitude you portray this is the exact same thing. Have the government come and just snatch the money away from the people who make to much.

Then we get into the area of how much is too much, who makes that decision, where do you draw the line?

Oh, and you made a comment about not buying expensive clothes made in China because you don't want to support them. Well do you make that same distinction with everything you buy? Probably not, there are a lot of things imported from China you probably don't even know about.

What about other countries? Do you buy Gas? Where do you think our gas comes from, what do those countries support?

The rich should be taxed according to their wealth. If people we're folowing the Bible we would not have millions of poor. 1% of this country owns most of the wealth. Oil Co. making 9 billion dollar profits in a quarter should have to pay more. I'm not talking people owning one house in middleclass, I'm talking about 5 mansions, a jet, 10 cars.

I don't care how it is done, I just want to stop seeing babies screaming because they don't have clean water. A baby dies every 15 seconds because of contaminated water.

A 38 million dollar stamp will never be in my mind, right. NEVER! How can people justify that, but do not feed the poor?

We in US spend toooo much on junk.

We in US spend toooo much on junk.

tracydolls,

I find your comments interesting. I also find your conclusions wrong but interesting.

The Bible states that the poor are always going to be among us. So the assumption that taxing the rich, or everyone to the fullest extent possible is clearly not the answer. It simply will not solve the problem no matter how much we would all like to see everyone live at the same economic level. That goal is not, nor has ever been achieveable. That simply is not the way life works.

IMO history has shown time and time again that whenever the rich are taxed to the fullest extent possible, and when all members of a society share all things equally, disaster follows to the point that that society vanishes from the face of the earth.

The answer is not forcing people to share their wealth, but encouraging and persuading people to share their wealth. That is what the Bible clearly teaches.

I once heard an economist say that if we, in America, taxed the wealthy as much as some people wish the government would, the amount of money collected would not be enough to solve the problem of poverty. It would only be enough to keep the government in operation for one or two days.

I also ran across a quote by one of the richest men in the history of the United States-Andrew Carnegie. (Since I no longer remember the exact quote, I'll parahrase:

It is the duty/ responsibility of the rich to help the poor.

I really do not mean to point fingers, but the real problem with us Americans and our appetites to consume and amass a whole lot of junk is that we have lost touch with our roots. Our parents and grandparents were so committed to providing for their descendents a life much better than their own, that they failed to teach us the value of that better life. They failed to teach us how to make sacrifices, and priorize what we need and want.

For the most part, we Americans today have no real idea what it is like, or what it must have been like to HAVE to save enough money to buy the necessities of life from day to day, or week to week, or month to month.

For the most part we have no idea how to take care of what we have and make it last as long as possible, because we do not have the money to replace it.

We have not only lost touch with our roots, but with our hearts, each other, and reality.

I see alot of jobs being created here.

quote:

If people we're folowing the Bible we would not have millions of poor.

3 Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5 "Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages." 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it. 7 "Leave her alone," Jesus replied. "It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. 8 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me."

Giving lost people clean drinking water won't mean they are going to follow the Bible or even believe in God. It may mean they rebell against God even more because they view "Americans" or "the government" as their savior and that is who they "cling to".

You don't know if they feed the poor or not.
