I fell in love with a man whose first name I abhorred.

Not disliked: HATED.

So, I would say.... see what the personality attached to the name is like.

BTW.... some of the name examples given here made me wonder: What on earth were those parents thinking?

I'd love to have a junior......and then call him by his middle name!!!!!!!!

There are a ton of "Joe's" in my family.......
My Grandpa's name was Jose, my dad is Joseph, my dad had a son they named Joe, my stepsister married a Joe and had a son named Joe!!!!!!!

I'd love to go w/my Grandpa's name of Jose.......if i ever had a second son!

A friend of mine married a guy who was was a third (III) She was told right off, that if she had a boy, he would have to have the family name and become a fourth (IV) She did have a boy and named him the family name...here's the funny thing. Not one of them goes by the name. All 4 generations used nicknames. Now that is weird.

My mother knew a man who was a XXIII! The three given names had been passed down for twenty-three generations and the namees alternated which one they were called by in order.

I had a friend who had a speech problem with the "R" sound, and hated his first name which began with an R. He decided to take on a nickname and chose "Nick", the perfect nickname.

As far as it affecting my perception of a person, I would head for a nickname if he had some trailer-trash name. I get annoyed that a lot of men I actually like have my ex-husband's name!
