and another thing: If it is worth passing on to others, it is worth a cut&paste to CLEAN UP ALL THE FORWARDED ARROWS!!!!!!!

If it is too much trouble to do that, then it is not worth sending it on to others.

how about the ones with a 'inspirational' or warning story? You look it up on snopes and it's not true. But 20 other people will probably send it to you.

my favorite was that someone had licked an envelope that had roach eggs in the glue. Later, live roaches came out of their lips. sure, right.

My favorite is the Chicago airport butt spiders.

I've gotten to where I send the snopes link (a direct link to explain the hogwash they just sent).

You wouldn't believe some of the excuses I hear. "Well it's a cute story!" or... "Well _______ told me it was true!"

Oy. It took me less than a minute to find the truth. What was so hard about that?

exactly, Armydude.

People do get very offended. I told one lady she may want to pass on the truth and the snopes link to those she had forwarded the junk to...she has not spoken to (or emailed ) me since!

yeah, I am broken hearted!

seriously, the spiritual type junk really bothers me the most.

God is not a genie in a bottle, you forward an email x number of times and He pops out and blesses you.

Amen. God loves us, and I'm pretty sure that my refusal to give in and forward an email doesn't make me "ashamed of Jesus". Especially since everyone around me in school and on every job I've had in the last several years knows that am a Christian and that Jesus is the focus of my life, not email.

Certain members of my husband's family are constantly forwarding these things.

My biggest issue is with the ones which falsely accuse a company or company executive of some alleged "anti-Christian" action or statement. And, of course, include a call for all good Christian to boycott ABC company.

This is called " false witness" people and the Bible has some pretty strong things to say about that, along with gossiping and slandering.

Yep, I have forwarded snopes.com information to them many times.

Funny, they never feel the need to repent, confess and try to set the record straight.

True... That goes back to the "Well _____ told me it was true!" Like that absolves them of any responsibility for spreading a lie.
I'm like, "You may not have known it was a lie, but you know now. So what are you gonna do?"

I get these all the time at work. I really don't like chain letters regardless of their origin. However, I do read them; and, if I like the message, I'll forward it with a little note that that person does not have to pass it on and that I don't believe in the silly warnings and such. I let them know that I was just thinking about them and I care about them. I just tell them to ignore the rest! A lot of the messages contained in the emails are quite beautiful and worth sharing.

The same thing happened to me, and I thought she was my friend!

For the most part, I don't mind them. However, if I do forward them, I remove the bottom that says to pass it on to X amount of people. There are some that look Godly, but when you check out the e-mail against the Bible, it doesn't stack up at all.

It does get irritating that there are some people who will spend all that time forwarding e-mails and not bother to return my phone call just to chat with them and see what's new in their lives...

I guess I know what's new for them, nothing..... which is why they forward tons of e-mails to me.

superstition dressed up pretty is still superstition.
I don't even bother to snopes any more, the stories are rarely true.

From time to time, I actually enjoy looking it up and emailing the person back to say... Guess WHAT?

Although it's pretty clear from every post-er so far that you all are in favour of chain letters of this sort, I still think they are wrong.

You're not reading some of the posts. I hate them. I hate getting them. I delete every one I get (almost).

I just like proving people wrong when they say, "It's true! Snopes says so!" Especially when snopes says the exact opposite, and somewhere along the line, someone was banking on people not looking it up.

armydude... clearly you don't recognize "reverse exaggeration" when you see it! ROFL

still, i COULD have put "Just Kidding" in italics at the end of my post! My bad!

anyway...the SAME sort of ability to read all the 40 posts, with their clear rejection of chain letters, and STILL come to the conclusion that people appreciate them is what is reflected in those who send them, and then CANNOT UNDERSTAND when you tell them in PLAIN ENGLISH that you do NOT like them.

BTW, my two personal favs so far are:

quote:

I used to be very superstitious but I trusted the Lord as my Saviour on Friday, 13th November 1986 and that put paid to that!

No worries. I wasn't sure if you were kidding or not. Thanks!

We also used to get the junk gossip e-mail from relatives until my husband started 'replying to all' with the specific link to the snopes page debunking the gossip. Yeah... took awhile but we don't get those anymore.

On a side note: Hi armydude!! It's good to see you!

although I do enjoy them, and they can be uplifting (the message) it is a poor attempt in witnessing. The key factor in witnessing is that it be personal. It is through the one on one meeting, and the chance of fullfilling a need (if you notice that Jesus did just that, i.e. woman at the well) that we have a better chance of winning souls for the kingdom
