I paid more than that 10 years ago when I was in my friend's wedding. Whoever that is actually got a good deal. Did you ever price a new tux? Most of them are at least $700, and that's without the shoes.

I'm guessing it was 109 without the shoes since she said her son was wearing some he already had. Maybe some of that stuff is cheaper here in the middle of Kansas. I hadn't priced tuxes. Wow. Makes the dress my dd bought seem cheap.

Honestly, I don't remember what we paid to rent Bill's tux for John's wedding -- didn't think it was over that, but could have been. Renting prom dresses sounds like a great idea, tho!

Dee, the laundry is semi-done. I've been busy trying to clean out the flower room so we could do the work in there this week, but I've had a big change of plans. I just am so very tired of trying to get too many things cone, and have decided against doing the wall and window for now. I may never do them, or may just put in a window, but I am so relieved not to have to do all that clearing out tonight.

I think the last tux (with shoes) we rented (5 men in the family) wasn't much over $100.

Yes, I did walk today. I went and checked out part of the church neighbourhood--part of it that I haven't been in since I was a kid. I walked 2.2 miles and saw a lot of unexpected things like a scrap metal company that was compressing metal into cubes; a lumber company; a milling company; parks I didn't know were there; some well-kept homes. Part of my walk took me along the river and when I returned to the main thoroughfare, I visited a grocery store that turned out to have some very unique things. Anybody ever used a celery root in their cooking? They had fresh ones in the produce department. And there were all sorts of imported packaged things from Europe. Oh! And the meat department had lots of pigs' feet. I bought a peach but when I bit into it, it was all brown inside. :(

Hey it's me!

Had another day with the kids. DS called me this morn and asked if I would pick him up from work because he had to work overtime. Poor guy had just done his first grave shift for the week and had to give another 4 hours. DIL is preg and sick with some unknown virus so he was wasted.

Then DD picked me up and we plus the three grands went shopping. Both girls were full of extra energy so it was a day of don't do that, be quiet, put that down. get over here...
Then when she dropped me off at home I had to finish my erands.

We just finished dinner of baked chicken strips on spinach and latkes w/ sour cream and applesauce.

Now it's down time for me. Until I have to take DS to work again tonite at 10:30.

So the conversation was prom dresses and tuxes today.
Here in CA lots of towns have a prom dress boutique where gals bring their dresses and sell them much cheaper. The proceeds usually go to some charity or event. Never had to deal with purchasing or renting a tux in our family. All the weddings Les has been in the tuxes were rented for them and when DS got married, it was a small home wedding and he wore a suit. He was never in the prom scene.

Maggie sounds like the grocery store had a Russian section. We have a large Russian population here with several of those items sold in European markets.

Thanks for the idea, Marsha. There is a Ukrainian presence in the area (I love their onion dome churches) and Ukrainians and Russians have much in common so I'm guessing (based on your suggestion) it's there for the Ukrainians.

Maggie, what a wonderful walk! I have heard of using celery root but have never tried it--never seen it in a store. Pig's feet sounds awful to me now, but I loved it in stew when I was a child. Yuckers about the peach.

Leah, I'm so glad you have peace about the work on your home. You will have more time to enjoy it by getting it done a step at a time, or being open to not doing it at all.

Your menus are mouthwatering, Marsha!

Yesterday our house went on the market. Today we had the bugman come and he found termites in a very tiny area of wood siding (we only have siding on the wall around the front door and window); nowhere else did he find any at all. He said they obviously came just a month ago and had done no damage. If we were staying here they would just treat the area and keep a watch on it, but because we are selling, we have to get the full treatment, tent and all!! So they are doing it next Mon. through Wed. Praise the Lord, another opportunity to see Him work. The guy who came to check on the bugs turned out to be a Christian, and the guy who was already here doing some handyman work is also a Christian. The realtor is a Christian too! And the realtor we'll be working with in our new city is also a Christian! We are so blessed!

Good Wen. Morning Everyone

Denny, I love your one liners

A my sons wedding, three yesrs ago, our guys spent well over $100 for them rented tuxes, with sock's and shoes. I don't recall the exact amount off hand...but it was up there! I must admit my husband and three sons looked so handsome tho.

We will have another lovely spring day again today. The sun is out again, the birds are chirpping, and the geese are honking away.
Have the morning to myself. Isabelle will be here about 11AM tho. My daughter is haveing a rummage/yard sale this Sat. So last night my husband loaded up his truck, and we brought some outside toys over there to sell Sat. Loaded up a tetter totter and a merry-go-round , plus some rideing toys. I just have way to much in this yard. Don't want to mow around it anymore, and have to move it out of the way. Also have a air hockey table that needs to get over there. We forgot it last night. But the truck was full so we could'ent have taken it anyways. When we were getting ready to leave Isabelle decided she wanted to come along with "Papa and Grandma" Even got into the truck. What a sweetheart. We did'ent take her tho. It was getting dark outside and she needed a bath and bedtime.

Barb, you almost sound like you're getting out of the daycare business! Are you?

They ARE Christian, Denny. It's only we humans who rebel against God. The rest of creation, including termites, praise him.

Joy, that's icky about the termites. I've never heard of a bug check before selling a home. Sounds like a good idea though.

Hi Catherine! Hi Marsha!

Good morning, Barb & Maggie.

Barb, can I send some things for a yard sale?? . . . I'm gonna have a few things to get rid of, for sure. Yard sales are a lot of work, tho, and if you don't have a lot of things, not worth it. I've just been donating my stuff to the local mission store.

Maggie, most homes in this state must have a termite check before selling. Well, let me take that back; it may actually be a realtor thing, but any good realtor will insist on it for his buyer. Many other things are required, too. Our place would have to have major work to the septic system before it could sell.

I'm working & stopping this morning again. Have managed to get some things done in my short time in the laundry room, tho -- in spite of Garrett 'helping' me

No Maggie, I'm not getting out of the daycare business. Just have two of my moms on maternity leave now. They are both due to go back to work the middle of June. Then I will have two toddlers and two infants to tend to. I just got the wooden cradle and baby swing down from the attic.
One of the moms (my husbands neice) is bringing her toddler and infant here tomorrow for the day. While she is on maternity leave, from work, she is also finishing up on her schooling, to get some sort of degree.
I think this was Gods plan for me...to get off work for awhile.. after mom passed away. Give's me time to deal with it and greive.
Yesterday was another difficult afternoon for me. I found myself going up to the cementary, talking to mom and walking around. Was looking at the headstones up there. Some of them are very lovely.
Today is four weeks (28 days) since she passed. I seem Ok so far tho.

Good morning everyone.

Denny have we been formally introduced? I'm Anisavta aka I'm a grandmother (that's what my handle means) aka Marsha.

Barb Hang in there Darlin'!

For the most part I think I need to put a few things out in the yard and with a sign that says, "this stuff is not for sale" and then open the rest of my house and garage for the stuff that is for sale.

When we moved into my mom's house I noticed some funny dirt in between the cracks in the wood slat paneling in our back room. Further investigation proved termites. Thankfully they were taken out with just the buried bait and kill thingys they put around the house.

Today is a stay at home get some laundry done day. We have a mixture of sun and clouds with a high in the mid 60s but I think the clothes on the line will dry. With the new washer and dryer I actually don't mind doing the laundry again.

Marsha, hanging in there. What Bill said a couple weeks ago, about his boss turning to work insted of mourning the loss of her father, would be really easy for me to do. But he said she turned out to be bitter. I don't want that! Altho I still find time to do stuff. And just cry if I need to!

Speaking bout doing stuff I went out to the shed and got MORE yard sale stuff. Gonna have to load up my husbands truck again. An old bike of Katie's, a hot wheel bike of Cody's, some wooden fence, I used around my garden, a wood rack, my big outdoor fish pond with the pumps, a toddlers basketball stand and hoop, ect ect. Goodness I have enough stuff around here to have my own yard sale!
But my daughter lives on a well traveled road in town. More folks are bound to see it there, than out in the country, by me.
So tomorrow I have to wash all that stuff up and mark it

Barb I think that crying is a gift that G~d gives us in grieving situations. It's a good release.

Boy I wish we lived closer - only 7 states away! I'd nab that fish pond and pump. I've always wanted one and we have a 1/4th acre lot so there would be room. But if I brought one of those home and said here honey look what I have DH would not be a happy man.

That's good that you have a break from work. Death is always hard. Too hard.

I want an outdoor fish pond! I had wanted one for our four big turtles but they all died before we did that for them.

{{{{{{{{{{{Barb}}}}}}}}}}}}}} . . . . give yourself time. Alow the tears. It sounds like you're handling it in a healthy way, and I don't think anyone on here is worried about you become mean or bitter.

Marsha, I was thinking along the same lines as you about that fish pond . . especially about hubby's reactions . . . sure would be neat to have one of those in my backyard, tho.

I fixed salmon patties for supper . . wanted to do my homemade mac & cheese, but kept forgetting to pick up the cheese, so I just did a boxed mix I had on hand. Just as well I went with that -- wound up accidently dumping nearly half the macraoni down the sink as I was draining it . . then I got too much milk in it -- and salt! . . . owell, the salmon patties were delicious, as were the green beans and chilled stewed tomatoes. I got so hot cooking, tho, I had to go outside and cool off while I ate my meal. It started to rain, so had to come back in, but at least I cooled off. It got above 80 here today. Need to get those fans outta the attic!
