The guy who cleans the toilets at church. Amen, SonInMe1. The faithful, day in day out, performers of tasks such as toilet cleaning get my vote as well. And I think this is an important reminder. We can so easily focus on the one who does the 'big deal', the great deed and overlook the one who has been faithful to just keep on keeping on. Another great question. My 'heroes' are people like Beverly who calls me just to say she loves me. Or Karen who always has a hug for me. Or Vickie who loves me on good days and bad. Their encouragement to me is priceless. I look up to the mom of a little boy that I take care of a few times a week. He has CHARGE syndrome, and his mother is amazing. She has fought so much for her son, she has learned the beauracry that exists in everything to help people with special needs, she is a constant source of love for her son. You can see it radiating from within her. She is a lady who walks in Christ and has over the past few years shown me what it means to be a Christian woman- a mother, a wife, and a woman. She is my modern day Christian hero. She inspires me everyday and constantly challenges what I have been taught to believe as a child. Also, there was a stranger that I came across a few years ago- my second year in college. I was distraught over something (I cannot even remember what!) And I was walking through the city in tears and this guy rode his bike past me, stopped, turned around, jumped off his bike and engulfed me in a hug. It was not threatening- it was comforting. Me, who at the time hated to be touched in any way, let him hug me. I was comforted and I felt God telling me that it would be okay. After a few minutes, that boy got back on his bike and rode off- I never saw him again- but I had stopped crying and forgot what had upset me. People like that- random acts of kindness that put hope back into my world are my heroes. I do not know if he was a Christian, but I know he brought God into my world again.
