Anyone still hanging in there? It's been a crazy week, but I did days 1 and 2 of week 3 today, will do the other three days over the weekend. We have VBS next week, but I'll do my best. Week 3, Day 1..."What is this teaching?" Luke 4:22-37 "when allowed to penetrate a place meant for practices of devotion to God, one of their [demons] chief tactics is to divert attention." I'm curious if anyone has ever witnessed this before? I have...it was freaky. My pastor handled it well though. Week 3, Day 2..."A house call" Luke 4:38-44 I like how she talked about God being a personal God, how Jesus was engaged in the every day life of the people He came to save. Beth says, "almost every spiritual marker of Christ's heightened activity in my home came as a direct result of some threatening situation." Has anyone else experienced this also? How, if you don't mind sharing? I also liked how she pointed out that while Jesus healed many and loved them practically, His mission here was to save us eternally, and to spread the good news! He didn't ignore the people's temporal needs, but He also didn't lose sight of what He had been sent for.

The last couple of weeks have been terribly stressful..but I think it's past. Of course, that should be the time I'm immersed in the Word most...but we all know how well THAT usually works right? The questions for that day (it's day 19 for those in the red book with me) are similar. I've never witnessed 'demonic activity' per se...other than the typical Satan-trying-to-get-in-the-way-of-God kind of a thing...It must be freaky and I don't think I wanna see it... Day 20 (house calls -- red book) Of course, I'm like many others, who invite Jesus right on in when I NEED Him...and am a bit too busy to sit with Him when I'm not in dire straights. I have to think on that a minute. Of course there are times...but it's hard to think of them off-hand. Oh wait! I can think of one. When I was pregnant with Wesley, I was seriously depressed. I had a major bout with depression and it almost won. I had thoughts of hurting those around me, myself...terrible intrusive thoughts (if you don't know what those are, I can explain..but it's not pretty) honestly, were it not for my girls and the baby in my womb, I probably would have done something terrible. I HATED living like that. I finally cried out to him one night. I begged Him to free me. And He did. Not completely, but enough that I could function and seek help. Before then, I'd never felt Christ so clearly in my home. At the end of the page in the red book, she says, "We need Jesus in our homes." AMEN.

You're probably right. What happened in the specific incident I witnessed was that a man who went to Christian school with me and used to be a dear friend, has had some serious mental problems in the last few years, is now openly gay, and really just his life is a mess. He'd come to our church from time to time and everyone would greet him warmly. We all love him, we all know him well. Well, the last time he came to our church, during worship, he flamboyantly "worshiped" in the front middle of the church with the hugest flag he could find. It was obvious that it was not done in a spirit of worship, though I'm not sure I can explain how it was obvious. Pastor (who was the youth pastor when we were there, and knows this man well also) pulled him aside and informed him that he was welcome in the church but was not to worship with banners/flags at this time. This man went from person he knew to person he knew, deliberately trying to stir up strife against the church leadership. It was so very unlike him that when he came to me, I turned around and told him, "Shut up. That is not truth and I will not tolerate it." He didn't say another word to me. I looked in his eyes and I tell you...they were not his eyes. Shortly after that, he disappeared from the sanctuary. At that point, I was not aware of some more details that the pastors were, but I got an awful feeling in my stomach that I needed to find my kids, that they were in danger. I have NEVER felt that in church before. I went to the back and talked with pastor's wife, who informed me that ALL of the deacons were searching the grounds to make sure he was gone. I checked on my kids, but was uneasy the rest of the service. Later, I found out that he had made comments about liking little kids (boys especially) sexually. This man has not been back to church since, and this was maybe a year ago. It is good to know the leadership is ready and able to deal with such things though, and there are many discerning people in our church. Sandy, I've had experiences much like you described also. Times where my sanity was barely hanging on by a thread, but that thread was able to cry out to Jesus and He came in and chased at least enough of the darkness away to be able to get help. I've also experienced that same kind of thing in my marriage, where I/we could tell satan was getting or had already gotten a foothold somewhere, and I cried out in my spirit (not verbally) and things improved suddenly.
