I know CW rocks da hizzouse, but I've seen a few people mention that they have pages on other social sites. I used to be on MySpace, then I migrated to FB when most of my friends made the switch. (I gave into the peer pressure! ) Of course, I didn't end up liking FB as much as MS, so now I'm not a part of either. What social site...aside from the #1 social site of ALL TIME in CW...are you a part of? Why do you like it? Does it serve as a social outlet for you?

i got a myspace (url in my cw profile) for youth group after a few suggestions and it's been an awesome way to build relationships with the teens. i have facebook too and it seemed cool at first but less friends there and the constant barrage of applications gets old. yeah myspace makes my head hurt looking at layouts but it's fun to mess with. plus myspace eventually copies the best of facebook features lol.

I belonged to a widow group before I came to CW. It was more of an email group though. In February I decided it no longer fit my needs. Someone suggested CW forums, Strangely enough CW had been my homepage for about 5 years before I even looked at the forums. My Twins just got their own myspaces so I am on there all the time, either policing or helping them set them up, which I am not really good at BTW. But if you're a teenager(or young person), it is the thing for sure. ~Nadine BTW - It would not let me vote...was it just me?

I have both. I use facebook 80% of time, myspace 20%. Originally it was reverse, but when I worked at Disney all of my coworker friends had facebook. In recent days I've had several college friends find me on FB. I just think it's easier to be in the loop w/ what is going on with everyone. And I love the superpoke feature. Except for the throwing sheep one...for some reason I always take offense (in jest!) to that one. I'll call my friend and say "did you really just throw a sheep at me?" *giggles*

oh, and Facebook (can't call it FB because I'm FB!!) now has a built in IM feature so you can talk to any of your friends that are on the site. Amazing.

I use MySpace mostly, but I do have a Facebook. I also have a MyYearBook as well (www.myyearbook.com) it's kind of lame. Also what is CW?

I like Facebook better than MySpace. It is more of a visual thing - Facebook is cleaner looking. Most MySpace pages simply make my eyes hurt with all of the repeating graphics and bold backgrounds (it is hard to read). I actually don't use Facebook much, but my classmates do, so I am on there. It is a nice way to keep in touch with people that you don't see normally.

i'll also let the internet geek in me put forward that CW is not really a social site as although it allows us to meet strangers there is not really a way for us to define our personal social network and trace it to other people. it only meets 1 part of a 3 part definition i just searched. CW is an awesome community site though.

IWFNE - could you satisfy my curiosity and define a "social site"? I've always wondered about that.

ORIGINAL: .Pammy IWFNE - could you satisfy my curiosity and define a "social site"? I've always wondered about that. when i did searching i came across http://jcmc.indiana.edu/vol13/issue1/boyd.ellison.html of which i'll except: We define social network sites as web-based services that allow individuals to (1) construct a public or semi-public profile within a bounded system, (2) articulate a list of other users with whom they share a connection, and (3) view and traverse their list of connections and those made by others within the system. The nature and nomenclature of these connections may vary from site to site. so basically i put forth CW partially fulfills #1 but doesn't really fulfill #2 & #3 where we can define a friends list and see who our friend's friends are. CW allows us to have an address book but it's private and no way to view others. here is one explanation for someone never having used such a site before: While SNSs have implemented a wide variety of technical features, their backbone consists of visible profiles that display an articulated list of Friends1 who are also users of the system. Profiles are unique pages where one can "type oneself into being". After joining an SNS, an individual is asked to fill out forms containing a series of questions. The profile is generated using the answers to these questions, which typically include descriptors such as age, location, interests, and an "about me" section. Most sites also encourage users to upload a profile photo. Some sites allow users to enhance their profiles by adding multimedia content or modifying their profile's look and feel. Others, such as Facebook, allow users to add modules ("Applications") that enhance their profile. Beyond profiles, Friends, comments, and private messaging, SNSs vary greatly in their features and user base. Some have photo-sharing or video-sharing capabilities; others have built-in blogging and instant messaging technology.

. . . ...... MySpace & OpenDiary.... I like being on secular sites.... often times I need to 'not be judged'.... and surprisingly... people who don't have Jesus in their hearts are the best at not doing this. I feel I can be more 'real' on those sites. I have some friends from CW on my MySpace friends list... but for the most part... I don't advertise it. It's just nice to 'get away' from CW. God still works through some of my writing on the other sites... It's cool when it happens....

God still works through some of my writing on the other sites... It's cool when it happens.... We are to hold each other accountable and we are told to judge within the church (1 Cor 5:1-13, especially 12). If someone is doing something wrong (and what else would we be judged for than our actions?) then we have a duty out of love to correct them and help them repent of it. If they decide that it's not wrong then the matter is between them and God. We've done what we are told to do. Of course the non-Christians would be less judgemental. They have no standard to judge against. They recognize nothing as sinful and nothing as harmful. Looking to them for accountability on your behavior is like asking a shark to read a book. They can't do it. So the question is, why can you be more "real" there? Does that mean you are lying here? Why not just be "real" everywhere and let people know who you are? If your behavior causes you to feel you cannot be "real" with Christians than maybe you need to examine your behavior. Or perhaps you are defining "real" is some other way? (sorry I know this is a rant, and harsh at that, but your post just struck a nerve with me. A Christian should never have to run from another Christian.)

I have never had an interest in any of those sites. I do enjoy posting here, though. I prefer more personal contact with people.

I can answer only for myself, but I know that I have interests that some other Christians don't. Some don't listen to secular music, some don't read fantasy books, some don't play video games...etc., etc. Sometimes it's easier to just put what you think the masses would approve of than to worry about offending people. You know you aren't going to offend your non-Christian friends by using scriptures or inspriational pictures on your page, but you don't know about offending Christians with the other. So no...I can't 'always be myself' around Christians, or post what I want on my myspace or Facebook pages.

(sorry I know this is a rant, and harsh at that, but your post just struck a nerve with me. A Christian should never have to run from another Christian.) Hello Friends! I know it has been a while since I posted... but I could not hold my tongue, or keep my fingers from giving y'all my 2 cents worth... *rolling eyes* <at myself... Oh yes, I am still extrodinarily opinionated lol... and I am an excellent sharer =P Anyways, I see both points of view here... Even though I have a myspace - OoOo, and a Yahoo blog, neither of which I frequent anymore, not because of how I am receieved by the secular world or the Christian community - both sites served there purpose on the journey in the expression of being uniquely me... I am not in that place anymore... nor do I regularly visit CW anymore - is that a reflection on any of those websites or my inability to express myself? no...... I have to be true to the journey as a whole - and it does not amount to a hill of beans what anyone thinks... I have often refered to myself as the court jester when it comes to walking out my faith.. nothing is hidden that wont be revealed... inside or outside.. we need to be honest withourselves... that is where healing comes to the roots... In respect to accountability and judgement - that is walking on glass shards IMHO.. accountability is good when you have been asked to hold someone accountable... Judgement, is reserved for those who God calls to point out the sin in another (John you know I adore you, but that was a wee bit, UM... what is the word that goes there?) One only has to go as far as the scriptures to see how He(God) called the prophets of old to go (thinking of David and Bathsheeba) and point out sin... be verwe vewry carewfull u rascally rabit... lol okay, with all of that said: I am going to put my hands back under my legs and be still... Love you all, Brenda
