Little_1 -> Money & Possessions (4/26/2008 3:52:19 PM)

Can I challenge anyone to start a topical Bible study thread on the subject of 'money and/or possessions'. By this I mean - would you like to post a verse on these subjects (one text per post please) and if you like add what you believe the verse means in a couple of sentences or less (optional).

I hope this is a good idea to get us thinking about how important / or not the subject of money and possessions are to God and ourselves. [8|] Hopefully, we can come up with a lot of insight into these subjects via a joint effort topical study.

Here is a useful link to help - any other such links also appreciated: Money & Possessions Link

Who's willing to go first ......?

Malachi 3:6-“For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed. 7 From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. But you say, ‘How shall we return?’ 8 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How are we robbing thee?’ In your tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me; the whole nation of you. 10 Bring the full tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house; and thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing. 11 I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil; and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts. 12 Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts."

God doesn't need our money or service; His Will will be accomplished regardless of our selfishness, 'investment' or cooperation. He wants our worship and allegiance and from that(or lack of that)we reap our just reward.

Proverbs-30:7-9 " Two things I ask you, O Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverity nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ' Who is the Lord?' Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God."

All I need is My Father's love, all he want from me is my love.

Peace

Psalms 49:16-18 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him. Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and [men] will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.

The Lord has brought this verse to my attention since the day I was converted almost. Where I live at present - this verse is very relevant. There are many affluent people surrounding us but they are so obsessed with their homes that they don't use their lovely sitting rooms but prefer to sit in their conservatories and kitchens to preserve their best rooms. It's nice to have nice possessions but sometimes possessions can have us!

It is so true that we come into this world with nothing and we will go to our graves taking nothing with us.

Mt 25:14 "Again, it (the kingdom of heaven) will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. . .27 Well then, you should have (at least) put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. 28 "'Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. 29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

Knowing that they are His recourses, we are not to sqaunder them, but are to make wise investments to further His kingdom, contributing to a prosperious community here on earth and enlarging the kingdom of heaven.

Little_1 - I'm going to cheat, but as a friend you'll forgive me?

What about Matthew 6:25-34. You know my love for these verses. God will meet our needs and all else is a barrier to our faith. We should want food, drink, clothing, a roof over our heads. To seek God daily and to do his Work of taking the gospel to those who are lost. A very hard task, but correct. Love to you always Little_1.

I like Ecclesiastes 5:10 Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness!
You only have to looks at today's rich and famous, the so called role models of our youth- how many of them are truely happy?!?!

1 Samuel 2:27

Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?'

For me, this question should be asked of all those who preach prosperity (WOF etc) asking us to subscribe to their extravagant lifestyles of private jets, limousines and mansions.

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Matthew 16:26

Be in the world but not of the world. Our society is very materialistic. The more you have the better off you are is such a false statement. Especially to our younger generations.
