Very nice, Erin! I really like the drawer under the crib. That's usually where I always end up storing blankets -- except in one of those flat rubbermaid tubs. The drawer is great!

That was one of the big deciding factors on that particular crib!

Nice furniture Erin

Nath loves to stand and can hold on to the couch for a few seconds at a time (has been for a month or so) so he could very well skip the crawling part.

Kat- I hold my hand up and do the "L" too!

QUESTION
Nath eats baby cereal but I am wanting to try something like porridge or oatmeal, you can buy infant stuff but it has milk fat solids or something like that in it so is that ok for the baby to eat? I thought they couldnt have any milk things til a year old?

And.... Nath clapped his hands on purpose today and does it when I do it. So cute!

this is really hard for me to express... as I am not sure how to put this question. At Saebella's last dr appt the Dr told me that she is several months advanced in most areas (sleeping is like a newborn though - up several times a night) - of course I had noticed that she was hitting milestones far ahead, but hadn't realized she was that far. Anyway, my question is...I have a hard time knowing how to talk with other moms. I am SOOOO paranoid they are going to thinking I am think I am so much better and bragging or jealous that thier baby isn't doing this or that or feeling like a bad mom because thier's isnt. Some moms have responded this way. Then to top it off, everyone is completely in awe of her beauty. I just don't know what to do and am a bit overwhelmed. Also, is there a thread here for moms that have kids that are really ahead or are all the issues really the same? thanks, ladies.

oh, and I think i really need to be on here more...i really need the mom support. i have really been going a bit crazy, so i'll be back more. i just probably won't be able to keep up with all the conversations as things move really fast on here

Having a child who is ahead can actually very different if they are extremely ahead or very ahead in many areas. When DS was born we lived 3,000 miles away from friends and family so I would maintain a website and post about what he was up to every couple of weeks to a month. My best friend told me when we moved back that she thought I was lying or exagerating about it all. I had no idea that my son wasn't "normal" (and it didn't actually really sink in until recently). I think it is important to have moms that you can talk to about advanced milestones openly and honestly without worrying that people will think that you are lying or without worrying that you will make them feel badly. Advanced milestones can also mean unique troubles in other areas like potty training, eating, and sleeping. Sometimes it can also make it difficult for them to have playdates and find the right school when they are old enough for that sort of thing.

I don't know what areas your daughter is ahead in or to what extent but if you're interested in more info I'd be glad to answer. I do frequent the advanced milestones board on another site and you're welcome to PM if you want to know where to go. They are really great there and very helpful and have a ton of links to even more sites with great info.

Oy, Isabel is growing up too fast. She is looking more like a little girl every day and not a baby. Why does that have to happen? She says so many words now and uses her fork/spoon like a pro! At 16 months she's supposed to still be just a fat little baby, right?

I need some advice.

Mary has never had more than a slightly red spot on her bum, never something I would call a rash but now I'm pretty sure she has a yeast infection down there! She was on antibiotics a couple weeks ago so I am thinking it might be because of that. Can I give her acidopholous (I can't spell that...)?? Is there infant stuff or would I just break up a capsule? I think I am probably going to make her a doctors appointment to see if I should put an anti fungal cream on it but I don't know what to do!

If it's her first one, I'd call the doctor to be sure. They'll probably want to see her and if it is, will probably give nystatin cream. Sometimes nystatin doesn't work and then they would go with an antifungal.

You can give acidophilus to her too. Just open the capsule and put it in her mouth. If she's not thrilled with that, you could mix it with baby food.

Thanks Donna!!

How much can/should I give her? Half of the recommended dose or something like that? She doesn't eat baby food, but I might be able to mix it into some fruit pieces and get it in her that way.

When Gabby takes antibiotics I give her one capsule every time she has a bottle, so about 6 capsules a day. I just open them up and pour it in her mouth then pop her bottle in, she doesn't seem to care.

I think one capsule full would be fine. I gave some to Isabel over the weekend because she was having really nasty teething diapers. I just poured the capsule in her mouth and then immediately gave her her sippy cup to wash it down.

I haven't ever taken my babies to the doc for a yeast rash. I just buy the over the counter anti-fungal cream and slather it on, it usually clears up overnight. If it persisted, then I would take them in. Just my .02 cents!

You really can't give too much acidophilus. It's not a medication or an herb. It's something that is naturally in your body anyway. When Hannah has a yeast infection, I give her quite a bit. Pretty much every time I walk in the kitchen, I give her two chewables. With your little one, I'd start with maybe 4 capsules per day, spread out in at least two doses.

Yeah, you can buy some athlete's foot cream at the pharmacy.

It might be good to go to the doc so you can always have some nystatin on hand. When Jimmy gets antibiotics, I swab nystatin in his mouth a couple times a day because they gave me a huge bottle of it.

Does Mary have white spots in her mouth, or is the yeast just in her diaper? They may not give you the oral stuff if it's not in her mouth.

white patches on the inside of her cheeks or tongue that you can't wipe away. If she does have it in her mouth then you need to be treating her mouth and your breast (otherwise you can get it and it will pass back and forth). HERE is a good page on treatments and bfing.

That is very important. I kept forgetting to treat my breast when Hunter had it and he ended up having to take liquid diflucan (sp?) because the other stuff (can't remember the name). I didn't know about the acidophilus at the time so I didn't try that, but I know for the next kiddo.

Oh, I forgot to add... I don't think it is bad to have an above average child and it's ok to post HERE about it, I guess. But I certainly wouldn't do it on my "other" forum, they rip women to shreds when they feel they are "braggy".

yes it's perfectly fine to post here about it. Like I said before, our first was ahead of everything for the first year...so I have experience in that one. Then again our second was behind the average so that really shocked me that they could be so different. Even now, at 8yo and 7yo they are still like that...totally opposites.

A fun poll question might be to ask when your baby/babies hit milestones--early or late or right on time? Or has that one been done before?
