yeah it's more the jump that they don't like. Mine when not pregnant is more in the "dead" range...about 60-65/35-45 or so...when I get pregnant it doubles immediately to about 120-130/170-180. It goes up from there for some pregnancies.
my hubby was well trained by himself before I ever met him....comes from him being 28 when we got married....lol. He had lived out on his own for nearly ten years...so he is good at the "domestic " stuff...not perfect, and not the way I like it done, but he is good enough that it works out fine when I can't do things.

Me too!! I do the dishes, laundry, and cooking, and Chris does everything else. I spent 30 minutes waddeling around the grocery store today and now I am in a lot of pain, so he may have to take over that for a little while.
When the baby drops, does it make it painful to have a BM? I think he has dropped and I feel so much pressure down there. It is making it really difficult to do much of anything.

Well, if your BP doesn't stabilise, and you have to be admitted and induced, he will *have* to cope. And if it turned out that you had to have a C-section, he'd be having to cope too.
If you're that concerned, perhaps WHILE YOU ARE RESTING NOW WITH YOUR FEET UP, you could make up some basic lists for him of things that need doing, when they need doing, and, if necessary, how to do them. (I went to the USA when my dd was 2 months old, and I left my husband a list for each day of all the things that would need doing for the house, our 2 children and our animals).
Maybe you could also get him to buy in some frozen TV dinners that he just needs to heat in the oven (or some more simple cans of soup, lol).

When I couldn't walk because of a broken foot we did this alot. As well as now, for days when I don't feel well. We keep some "emergency" dinners in the freezer. Bagged "heat and eat" meals, frozen pizzas, HB helper, etc. I plan to make sure I have plenty stocked up for when baby comes and late pregnancy (who am I kidding, I use 'em all the time!).

A list would not go over well here either, unless it was a very short MUST be done today list. I wouldn't list out everything that I usually do, but I also wouldn't expect everything to be done up to my standards. At this point, if I were on bed rest, I'd be happy with the kids fed and clean, laundry washed and dried (I could fold), and dishes done. When you're on bed rest, you decide what's really important to be done. Actually, it's good practice for when the new baby is here.

Yep - I would just want the pets taken care of, some sort of food and clean clothing, and for the house not to be a total wreck when I could get around again. LOL 
Truly, if there is any way possible for me to do it he'll let me know - lol! The other day I mentioned that I might have to hire someone to cut our hedges b/c I'm not comfortable using the trimmer at this stage and they are doing the spring spurt. He said, "Well, it's not like you're going to pregnant that much longer. They can wait." Does he think I'm going to be doing that the week after I give birth?? Oy. He only takes the big trash out to the curb now because I told him I almost fell over doing it. In his defense - last time I did do it he got onto me and told me to let him do it from now on.
So, he really does want me to be safe and will do things if he thinks it is unsafe for me... but if I'm capable of doing it without getting hurt I have to do it. He has a good heart, it just wars with his dislike of all things domestic.

Nicole- Yep, I'm here. Wednesday night my mom spent 9 hours in the ER. They told her she had an ovarian cyst, gave her some Vicodin, and sent her home. Friday, I took her to her doctor for a follow up (she was in too much pain to drive) and her doctor told her to get to the hospital right away because it was her appendix. By the time the hospital gave her a CT scan , her appendix had ruptured and she had to have emergency surgery. She has been in the hospital since Friday and they are probably going to discharge her tomorrow. Also, I had 1 final exam for school today and I have 1 more tomorrow. Right now I am super stressed and in a lot of pain. I haven't been online much.

Oh Emily - what a rough week! I'm sorry your mom had to go through that, but I'm glad she seems to be okay now! I'll pray for her and you - what kind of pain are you in? Hopefully normal pregnancy pain and nothing worse? I'm glad your exams are almost over... I'm sure that will help with the stress. (((hugs)))

Well, not diluting chicken soup sounded more like he didn't know rather than didn't want to!!
I would hope that he would want to, if it meant the difference between you getting pre-eclampsia and not getting it, or being so close to being pre-eclamptic that you needed to be admitted and induced. That is what could happen if you don't get lots of bed-rest. Maybe it would help for you to explain to him what pre-eclampsia is and how serious it is (if he doesn't know already).

Her hubby probably has a good idea of what it is, seeing as he's a doctor and did an OB/GYN stint during residency.
Ya know, there is a fair amount of debate about putting women on bedrest. It doesn't work for everyone, it really did nothing for me in the end and that seems to be the general concensus from the Pre-E foundation docs.

Well, if it works for some (as it did for me), I'd personally think it would be worth a try. At the end of the day, it's not going to do any harm, and it could do good.

You know about the meals, I'm pretty sure my church will be throwing me a baby shower and asking what I want. I am going to ask for casseroles that can be frozen with the instructions and those throw away containers be brought in lieu of a gift so that I can pop them in the freezer and anyone who is helping in the house can heat them up. I figure that's the most practical way to get what we really need. We really don't need other baby things. And there is no such thing as delivery here where we live. Plus I might get some really cool dinners that way and I can ask later for the recipe!!

True, true. The other thing I would actually ask for is a 24 hour urine collection. Even if your dip is negative, you can still have protein in your urine. Being overly hydrated, or having clear urine can actually cause a false negative result.

and yet for me it does help some. It has helped me not have to be induced EVERY pregnancy....just one was mandatory induction so far (and one would have been if I had dr's with any brains at all).

So, Kathryn, if you decide you need more than just meals, you can ask your church to collect their urine for 24 hours. 
Emily, the end is uncomfortable, for sure, but those are good signs too! I hope you're able to rest a bit after finals and before baby day!

The evidence is that it helps with blood pressure in some people, it does not help Pre-E from developing as it's far more involved then just your blood pressure. HBP is just a symptom of Pre-E.
Bedrest helped with my swelling, it did not help with my kidney function or my high blood pressure.

Kathryn - I wish I had thought of that!! What a great idea! We probably wouldn't have had enough room in the freezer though.
Manda, he knows what it is... like I said if I really am in danger he will step up I'm sure. I'll just wait and see what they say Thursday. Yeah - the chicken soup thing was pretty bad. He did have to cook for himself before we were married - he just didn't worry about it tasting very good. LOL

yeah I should have elaborated more on my first post.....bed rest did nothing any time for my BP or other pre-e symptoms....however, it did help my swelled up feet to not hurt as much...and to temporarily go down a little or get a little relief.

Emily....not trying to freak you out or get your hopes up, but what you are describing sounds very much like you could go any time now (I would be guessing, but it may be in the next few weeks here). It really sounds like the baby has dropped...and usually the last few weeks are the worst for certain pains, etc that you are describing...and esp with your family's history of early terms.
