Thanks, Catherine and Reach! I'm super excited With five younger brothers and my sister being only a year and a half younger than me, I'm definitely more comfortable around little boys than little girls

So... we went to the doctor and he asked if we wanted to know the sex. I said we did (I finally won the argument about 30 minutes before the appointment ). As he was putting the gel on me and just starting to look for the baby, he said "Well, we'll take some measurements first and if the baby's cooperative, we'll try at the end to see if we can tell the sex. Wait... oh yeah, he's definitely a boy. And not modest at all!" The baby was moving all over the place (and flashing us the whole time) so much that the doctor had a really hard time getting his measurements. In fact, the baby wasn't cooperative about anything except showing off his gender The doctor said everything looked good, but he wasn't able to get all the measurements he wanted because of all the wiggling around The baby is measuring 20weeks, 4 days and is 9 inches long and 13 oz.

Then I went to my other doctor (my gyno... she doesn't do the sonograms herself). She said everything looked good to her, too, so I just come back in a month. I asked her about weight gain and she said I'm doing fine (I've gained 7 lbs) and that she'd be happy if I gained 20-25 lbs total. I was overweight before getting pregnant, so that makes sense and I seem to be on track for that.

And I have a question that I felt weird asking my doctor. I've been feeling a lot of movement lately, but thought that it couldn't be the baby because it seemed so low. When the sonogram doctor looked for the baby, he had his little probe thing-y really low on my stomach... way below my bellybutton and right about where my hairline starts ( ) Is this the normal place to carry a baby or am I "carrying low"? Whenever I see other pregnant ladies, they rub their bellies much higher than where I feel the baby kicking, but maybe it's also because I'm only 20 weeks along? I don't have any prior experience to compare this to. I'm not concerned or anything, just curious

Yikes, this is a ridiculously long post, so I'll stop there. I'm just really excited

Amy, Congrats on the boy! I cant speak from experience but I have always felt and the doctors have always "found" Isaac that low. Only just this past week or two have I been feeling him around my belly button and higher. I dont know if thats considered "carrying low" or not.

totally normal to feel movement that low Amy. Once baby gets bigger (another 6 weeks or so for you) you will find that baby is everywhere...low, high, in between...and all your internal organs are all squished up too, so it makes for a very unique and interesting feeling (esp the first pregnancy)

There is an old wive's tale which says that boys tend to carry lower since they are more independent ... girls are higher (closer to mom) since they 'need' the extra loving and nuturing. (Saw that on TV the other day, on a show where they werre trying to determine the genders of 5 babies in utero based on old wives tales such as positioning, ring over the stomach spinning, etc)

YUp..thats about where I am hitting now. It feels weird to not be able to move your torso quiet right. I get out of bed like a beached whale...Klay gets a huge laugh out of it. (soryr if this is TMI...but...) we were trying to be intimate the other day and ended up laughing our heads off because I couldnt move right, nothing weird or kinky, its just we went to do like we normally do I couldnt move the same...it was pretty funny.

lol...my lowest baby was my first girl. my first boy was high high high. My others (1 girl, two boys) have pretty much been in the middle more.

Yeah ... that OWT regarding positioning was never accurate for me ... I've either carried them all really low ... or all over the place.

Erin we had the exact same experience and for some reason I felt compelled to share it with my mom.. who laughed at me greatly.

Congrats Amy and like has already been said totally normal to feel low.

With me I rubbed higher because I felt it looked odd to rub so low, like what was I really doing??

Congrats that you were able to convince your husband to find out the sex and also for having a boy!!!!!

Like the others said, it is perfectly normal to feel movement really low.

Congratulations Chelsea Rae!!!

Also, congratulations Artemis on a boy :)

29 weeks tomorrow - yay! We just moved dd into a "big girl" bed a few days ago, so that there wouldn't be an issue later on with the baby having her crib. She really seems to like her new bed a lot!

I need to vent a little. Dave lost his job in May, and we are really struggling financially. It seems like every day I wind up in a mental whirlwind of "AAAAHHH!! How are we going to support ourselves, nevermind this new little life?" I'm exhausted/uncomfortable/stressed out. I'd really appreciate your prayers during these last few weeks of pregnancy, that we would place our trust in God and not allow these circumstances to steal the joy of Josiah's arrival.

Yachaddm - I'm so sorry you're going through this. My Dh and I just went through a year of unemployment after my husband lost his job in June of 2007. He found a job two weeks ago, but I can completely empathize with the fear and uncertainty that comes along with job loss. God is so good though - He took care of us through the year in one way or another and showed us that He is the Great Provider. I will pray for you.

LOL Erin ... that was me a few months ago ... I think I summed it up well in another thread I post to ... "I've passed the 'beached whale' stage and am now at the 'easily mistaken for an ocean freighter' portion of the pregnancy!"

ETA: and my stretchmarks even have stretchmarks ... I think I've got a map of the city cross-streets on my stomach somewhere!

Somebody should have told Gabby that, she could have saved her momma some hooha pain.

Erin, you look good! But there is no side view :)

Okay I am fixing the link. I am having trouble cutting and pasting...its like being in Kindergarten again!

Its really strange because I dont think I LOOK that 'big" or really feel huge, but when I try to get up out of bed, or scoot over to cuddle with hubby, I feel like I am flopping around. Thats what was so funny about the other day...we were laying there and tried to snuggle over to cuddle and it consisted of my grunting, flopping, and finally giving up because it was too much work. And the other day I dropped something in the floor at the office and I just sat and looked at it, my boss walked by and asked what I was doing, i told him I dropped my pen and was willing it to come back...he picked it up for me!

If only that would work for me ... I just keep looking and looking at whatever I drop, and dh laughs at me and says it's not going to pick itself up!!! (I then look wistfully at him, but he doesn't seem to get the hint ... or he just ignores it!)

I'd like to will my running shoes to tie themselves at this point ... instead, I'm wearing flip flops and driving my chiropractor up the wall!

I had graduated to flip flops for the most part. But mainly because my feet are more comfy and seem to swell less than with my sneakers.

LOL! I remember when I was preggo with Isaac and working . . . my boss used to irritate me so badly. His desk was about 5-6 feet from mine and about a billion times a day he would say "hey, come here real quick and look at this". I'd just stare at him like "are you kidding me??" I could not just glide across the room effortlessly like I did not preggo, LOL!!! It is a total ordeal to get up!! And then we moved offices during the last few weeks of my pregnancy . . . . and his desk was across the hall from mine . . . and still, he would:

boss -- "Hey!!"
me -- "What?"
boss -- "Can you come here?"
me -- *glaring silence*

LOL! He eventually figured it out, it took long enough.

Oh my boss does that too. I usually sign heavily, say, just a second, grunt, get up, and meander in there...I think he is starting to get the picture. He should get it, he has three kids!!

Ack - so haven't posted in such a long time! Here I was thinking that I'd have plenty of time to post on Crosswalk once I was finished with work but strangely enough I don't have as much desire to be on-line now that I'm at home full-time. I'm thinking it was my boredom at work that caused the excess surfing . I will try and be more vigilant with posting from now on .
Anyway I'm now 32 weeks, I totally can't believe how fast time seems to be going, to think that in 8 weeks or less our little stinker will be here! Had my 32 week appointment this past Wednesday and these are my stats: BP 110/70, HB 148 and weight gain to date is 30lbs! My MW says the baby is head down so I guess that's really great, though I know there's still plenty of time for the baby to turn the other way if they wanted to!
Hubby and I are taking the Bradley course and so far it's going good. We just finished with class # 2 and the whole course plans to be finished by Sept 16th, 2 days before my due date!
The accumulation of baby stuff is an ongoing process, I still need to order my cloth diapers (I'm going with Fuzzi Bunz I think), secure a car-seat, buy baby toiletries and a few other things that I can't think of right now. My parents will be returning from their annual summer trip next week and my mom assures me that she has bought so many things for the baby that I'm sure to be drowing in it by the time I sort it all out !

Anyway will so post a 32 week belly shot soon, maybe today if I can get my act in order!

Congrats Chelsea!

Amy - Yay for your little boy!
