EQ:

Perceiving emotions - the ability to detect and decipher emotions in faces, pictures, voices, and cultural artifacts- including the ability to identify one’s own emotions. Perceiving emotions represents a basic aspect of emotional intelligence, as it makes all other processing of emotional information possible.

Using emotions - the ability to harness emotions to facilitate various cognitive activities, such as thinking and problem solving. The emotionally intelligent person can capitalize fully upon his or her changing moods in order to best fit the task at hand.

Understanding emotions - the ability to comprehend emotion language and to appreciate complicated relationships among emotions. For example, understanding emotions encompasses the ability to be sensitive to slight variations between emotions, and the ability to recognize and describe how emotions evolve over time.

Managing emotions - the ability to regulate emotions in both ourselves and in others. Therefore, the emotionally intelligent person can harness emotions, even negative ones, and manage them to achieve intended goals.

i am sure people invented eq for the benefit of human emotional wellbeing. but i think eq is not doing a good or sufficient enuf job.

are emotions really so important? i think eq is a secular word.
words have totally different concepts in christianity n secularism.
for example the word soul: in christianity, soul is the 2nd level of personality. but in secularism soul usually means the top level of personality. it's fair. secularism has no big distinction between soul n spirit. u can find this in dictionaries. also mind n spirit no big difference too.

actually what can really change personality is the spiritual quotient.
it doesnt mean we are trying to judge anybody. let's have some positive discussion about the outlines of SQ constructs? or SQ in general. tks.

I'm not sure what it is you're wishing to discuss. The fact that we rate emotions? The idea that emotions have importance at all?

A man in my church, Dr. Harold Koenig, has established a global reputation on the basis of his rigorous research on the relationship between health and faith. Apparently, the capacity for religious experiences is hard-wired into us, in varying degrees. Strangely enough, this capacity often correlates with a tendency towards depression.

Then, you have Mother Teresa. After an initial transforming experience with God, she labored for lonely decades on sheer faith and humble obedience, without the sense of God's presence. Well, I suspect she's making up for lost time now!

William Frank Diedrich offers the following definition and measurement of spiritual intelligence:

Spiritual Quotient (SQ)
Most recently, it has been defined as "choosing between the ego and Spirit (Higher Self)" . This definition is based upon the root words: spiritus, meaning breath. Spirit is the breath of life. Intelligentia, meaning "to choose between". There are three major aspects of spiritual intelligence. They are:

1. Indentifying with one's Higher Self or Spirit rather than with the ego. That is, you are not your body, your problems, your past, your finances, your job, your gender, or your ethnicity. These are each roles you play. You are a spiritual being having a human experience.

2. Understanding Universal Law--Cause and Effect. Spiritual Intelligence means that you take 100 % responsibility for your life, your situation, and for yourself. You recognize that you are the creator of your life and that your thinking, your beliefs, and your assumptions create your world. This means no blaming!

3. Non-attachment. As a spiritual being you are unattached to outcomes, forms, or experiences. Your well-being comes from within you, by way of your spiritual identity.

Spiritual Intelligence is developed by practicing these three aspects. The tools of Spiritual Intelligence include prayer, meditation, contemplation, conscious awareness of one's tendencies toward fear or anger, shifting one's emotional state away from fear, and the ongoing daily practice of staying conscious of one's thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Robert Emmons (2000) defines spiritual intelligence as "the adaptive use of spiritual information to facilitate everyday problem solving and goal attainment." He originally proposed 5 components of spiritual intelligence:

1. The capacity to transcend the physical and material.

2. The ability to experience heightened states of consciousness.

3. The ability to sanctify everyday experience.

4. The ability to utilize spiritual resources to solve problems.

5. The capacity to be virtuous. (LATER REMOVED)

The fifth capacity was later removed due to its focus on human behaviour rather than ability, thereby not meeting previously established scientific criteria for intelligence.

since faith n science is inter-acting, i dont mind people add some faith into their science or add some science to their faith.

It appears that this topic is the worldly description of the Christian maturing process. All those characteristics develop as we grow and seek the Lord. growing and seeking are the main factors. When we rely on the HS to teach and to guide, we come into knowledge and wisdom.
