I'm hungry. And I don't seem to have much food here. At least nothing I can make a meal with. I guess I'll have to go out for lunch since I don't want to go grocery shopping.

Good morning, Voice! (I never get to say that!)

Good morning, everyone!

quote:

That reminds me of a book I like to read sometimes called Alas, Babylon. Anybody ever read that one?

I read it years and years ago, but I'm don't remember the specifics too well. There's a nuclear holocaust and a man tries to survive afterwards, experiencing the shock of the changes to his world?

Yes...and it pretty much has a positive ending, too...something I really prefer in a book. I re-read it periodically.

But the nuclear attach happened at dawn and the author described it just the way John did...the main character at first thought it was dawn, but then realized that the sun was rising in the wrong place.

Strange...I posted and my name appears as the latest post, but there's not post a from me showing.

I liked the book in high school, so maybe I should reread it. Thanks for mentioning it. From time to time I've tried to remember the title of it but could only think of Brave New World.

What else do you like to read?

Good morning everyone! Well, I am home from work again. That makes it a full week! I should be back on Monday though, barring no complications at all.

You mean, when I'm not reading text books or books in French?

Currently reading: Fellowship of The Ring (for the...what, 40th time?). Recently read The Pleasures of God and Future Grace by John Piper. Flight to Eden by Douglas Hirt. Love Mrs. Pollifax books and C.S. Lewis.
The occasional Louis Lamour.

And you, shema? What do you read?

LOL! I just received my release from "mandated reading" so I'm just getting to start reading what I choose again. Finally!

I prefer nonfiction--philosophy, theology, historical accounts, biographies--that type of stuff. I also love fantasy and really good mysteries. My favorite mysteries/detective series are the Nero Wolfe books by Rex Stout. I'm currently reading the novel that my brother wrote and will begin a book tonight that one of my students loaned me (fantasy with mythological characters interspersed throughout). Later this weekend, I'd like to tackle Martin Luther's The Bondage of the Will. I'd also like to reread CS Lewis' The Pilgrim's Regress.

Seems like we have similarly eclectic tastes, then.

How interesting that your brother wrote a novel! I think it would be hard to read a book by an author I was actually acquainted with in real life.

Eclectic's good. :)

My brother's a near genius, and he's really excited about his book. It's still in the revision/editing stage, so he wanted me to read it and offer suggestions. So far, it's excellent (I'm 1/3 of the way through it). We have a healthy relationship and respect each other's opinions, so I know that I can offer an honest critique without worrying about hurting his feelings. And it's actually pretty neat that I know the author. He included some details and real experiences from his life that I've noticed that others who don't know him won't "get" or understand as deeply or profoundly. It adds to the enjoyment.

Have you ever wanted to write a book?

When I was younger...much, much younger. But I hated what I wrote, so I never pursued that career choice. I sing MUCH better than I write !

I have had one particular experience reading a book written by a person I knew: unfortunately it was fairly badly written and difficult to explain how to fix to the friend.

How about you? Have you ever written or wanted to write a book?

Okay, I am SO jealous that you can read without studying the text. I STILL cannot do that - years after school. It's very difficult for me to sit and read and enjoy a book. I guess it's worse because most of the ones I read are educational in nature, so I "study" them. Rare is the book I can just sit down and lose myself into its pages.

Slight change of subject (but I think I can bring it back around) I stuck my head outside my office today and saw the weather. Wow! It's raining cats and dogs and blowing like crazy. It's quite lovely IMO but doesn't do well for the clients we deal with and situations we have...LOL

For Bible study tonight I see soup and grilled cheese.

And tomorrow I see myself curled up on the couch with a good Dan Brown book. I really enjoy his books.

(See? I kinda brought it back)

Now how do you study soup and grilled cheese? Do you have any scriptural references for that?

Come on over! I love to cook and don't mind sharing. I bought a new griddle a while back and I've only used it for pancakes. Can't wait to whip it out for grilled cheese. Should be fun. *giggle*

The weather here is so nice. But I can't decide what to do outside. It is currently 64 degrees, with no wind. Beautiful! Is it a frisbee day perhaps?

It's 79 here and it's supposed to be 89 today. I have a feeling that you and I are going to start to sound like broken records by the end of the summer.

Me: Hot N Dry

You: Hot N Humid

Me every other day: Don't ask !!!!!!!

Funny if you look back through old chat threads people are always complaining about the weather. Just seems the people making the complaints are changing with the seasons!

Naaaa....that's not true. You just get to date the wholesome, winsome morning girls. Of course, that may not be the kind you were looking for...

The title is soooooo familiar. I may have read it. I don't have time to dig out my books and check

What's it about (who wrote it also)
