Some have offered to sit in class with her, but she felt that would be too much of a distraction for the other students. Please pray for Mrs. D and for her students - especially the student(s) who would do something like this. It is not clear if they know who the student was who did this. Is it appropriate for me to send her a card to cheer her up or encourage her? Not only appropriate but a wonderful idea.

I asked because when Liz's algebra teacer's father passed away, I sent her a card and she called me and told me that was inappropriate because we have a parent/teacher relationship and I was encouraging her to "play favorites." Mrs. L (the algebra teacher) and I don't have a good p/t relationship. Mrs. D and I do have a good p/t relationship, but I still wouldn't want anyone to think that I was trying to get Mrs. D to "play favorites" - even though she is one of Liz's favorite teachers. Thanks Lady for your advice.

I just recently sent one to Ty's English teacher he had in 6th grade when I learned she was having serious health problems that have lead to her having to quit her job - one that she absolutely loved. I do not think it's right for ANYONE adult or child to belittle another person - adult or child - and call them a loser or a quitter just because they didn't see scouts through to Eagle. And I KNOW for a fact that she has done this with some of the older boys (she is involved with both the cubbies and the boy scout troop as well) who have dropped to persue other interests or concentrate on their schooling. All I can say is that if she says ANYTHING like that to EITHER of my boys she's going to get a very firm tounge-lashing! Those words a couple of years ago ruined a friendship between her and another single mother and totally turned not one but two boys off to scouts. Simply because someone was not wise enough to keep their cutting words to themselves. Anyway - I said I was done with this rant. I really should stop! I have to work on getting the program ready for the printers for the 5th grade musical coming up next week. I have all the information I just need to put it together and then get into school on Monday to copy it! They are doing "Schoolhouse ROCK Jr. a variety of songs from the Schoolhouse Rock songs from when their parents were kids! Update on my 12 year old, she says she printed all her stuff and turned it in. I will be checking with the teacher tomorrow or monday to be sure. I just wish I knew what happened to my concientious (sp?) student? I would have thought by 7th grade she'd be more independant! I had to have a talk with the bus driver on my twins bus. One of the little girls was taking their cheese stick out of their snack bag and since the twins won't stand up for themselves she was getting by with it. I'll send a note to the teacher too. Kim Q

That sounds like progress Kim. I'm trying to figure out why my 7th grader was reading after school instead of doing homework. Grrrrr. I should have checked; she often doesn't have any. Kath, she's going about an hour away. I'm wondering about the weather too. Saturday they have a trip too, and would like nice weather for it also. I'm aggravated; E is supposed to be working on a project for history with someone. Last week I took her to his house so they could watch the movie. He wasn't there; he was out of town. So today he was supposed to come here. He never made it. E says he doesn't come to class a lot. Thankfully the project is two parts, and so long as she does her part it won't affect her grade. I think I might join Netflix though so I can get a copy of the movie since they need a clip. She has it on her jump drive, but I don't know if it'll play at school. I hope they're fast. Her presentation is next Friday. Dee

I remember being forced to watch that in school, and it was when I was overly emotional to begin with (deaths in the family, etc) ... I've disliked that movie ever since!

It is a Christian school and the teachers are really working in a ministry. To see the servant's hearts at that school has been a real blessing.

I don't do gifts in MS or HS, although this last Christmas my daughter baked cookies and handed them out to her teachers (she's in 7th grade). The grade school handbook also discourages Christmas gift giving because not everyone is able to do so. My daughter finished watching the first half of Mississippi Burning; she seemed to like it OK; she said she wouldn't mind having her own copy of it. Her comment was "I seem to have a strange obsession with civil rights." So at least she finds it interesting enough. From what I saw it wasn't the type of movie that I'd enjoy. Netflix should be sending me a copy tomorrow that she can use for school if she needs it. Dee

Great movie....and insight into a time when "on the surface" it SEEMED that everyone was just as "nice" and "Christian" as can be....... Interestingly enough, there is a mention in a conversation in the movie about the passage of scripture which the KKK and the rest of them believed gave them justification for doing what they did (and, in some parts, still do).........though, I forget what that was. (Gene Hackman's character was standing in a kitchen, I believe, talking with a woman (probably Mrs. Pell, but not sure), and she was explaining to that FBI agent why they do what they do....and, she quoted the scripture passage).....just so you can be on the 'lookout' for it...

on a lighter note....took the day off to go to the zoo with my daughter's Kindergarten class. There are about 60 kindergarteners, in the 4 classes, and about 19 or so parents were there to volunteer on the field trip. Included in that were 6 dads (including myself)....still amazes me, because when I was in elementary school, dads were NEVER at school for ANYTHING at all (fieldtrips, class parties, PTA participation, etc...etc...).......those were things that only moms did.... so, i was 'in charge' of my daughter and two other kids....and, they had an "assignment" to "find" the animals that have 4 legs.....write information down about them (all the animals have informational signs at each exhibit), AND draw a picture of it. kids had a great time, of course....by the time we got back, i was exhausted!

Oh yes, kindergarteners get so tired on those field trips! I agree Kerns, my dad never went to anything of mine like that (field trip, field day, class party). He did go to programs. Hubby will be going with our son on his field trip on Monday. I'm glad you got to go! I'll be watching for that scene Kerns. Interesting. If I remember right her part of the assignment is to present on which aspects of the movie are historically accurate. Dee

The teacher called while I was at a meeting. The message? "Miss Bee, this is Miss Teacher. DeeDee's teacher. Um, I'm tryng to get a hold of you. I will try you later today. Bye." I missed the call by 4 minutes and could have called her back if she had said she would be available until such-n-such time. So now, I sit on the phone. Talked to Poppa about it. On one hand, DeeDee is a bit of a drama queen and may be blowing things out of proportion. On the other, if the teacher says she didn't say it, someone has to have lied and whose do we assume is telling the truth (in the absence of other evidence, DeeDee) If she claims it wasn't as bad as DeeDee said it was, at what point to we concede that the DQ may have come out of DD? I say never, but Poppa feels a bit differently.

It's bright and sunny out, which is great for my daughter in the parade today. Unfortunately she has no sunscreen on her or with her. I hope one of her friends has some, but I'm not holding my breath. She's my fairest skinned child; the one that I always make sure has sunscreen for such things.... Dee
