You see I don't even know if they are going to hold a meeting to inform the general public of the upcoming changes they already decided on or to inform them of possible upcoming changes. BUT I'm going to ask for a meeting that parents are made aware of and if not I'm tempted to contact local media and let them know that there are things going on that I think parents would like to know about. Sure there's a referendum issue information posted on the schools website - but that certainly doesn't go into ANY detail about what is being considered as far as budget cuts are concerned. Anyway - I need to finish supper. Blessings, Garsy

Michelle, I've kind of thought that too about the last week of school. But I guess we'll let them have their fun! My son is taking a bag tomorrow for cleaning out his desk. Here they start switching classes as early as third grade. Hopefully that means that teachers are teaching in one of their stronger areas when they do that. Bussing--we are in a somewhat rural area. The town next to us buses kids in from much of our (large) county so we're not as affected as them. The country kids of course get picked up. For the in town kids each school is a bus stop. There may be a few more, but I'm not affected by that. But the furthest I'd have to drive a child is less than 2.5 miles. The schools my kids are in right now are all walking distance. When our district changed from neighborhood schools to attendance centers for elementary the shuttle bus system was put in place. I hope the school stays committed to it. All of our schools start within 15 minutes of each other, so there's little/no duplication of routes. I'm sure it all gets much more complicated with a larger district. I have some friends who live in Colorado whose kids have/had mostly 4 day weeks. I don't know long they've had that schedule, but their kids are in high school or have graduated by now. I think they liked it okay. But I don't know if they did it when their kids were little. It's the younger ones I'd be most concerned about. Here there is apparently some flexibility with the days/hours thing, since when the kids were out so many days in December they just lengthened the school day a bit. Garsy, let us know what you find out about all this. I know you'll figure out how to get your concerns aired, and I'm sure there will be plenty right there with you. Dee

I did sit down this morning and sent an e-mail to our area's state senators, one of whom I know personally. I just let them know what was happening since the state seriously cut school funding and what school's budgets look like today and HOW that is being passed on to parents. I also let them know that I tought it extremely stupid of them to eliminate funding for state funded online charter and public schools, even though it is a well known fact that these sorts of programs are often more finanacially responsible AND have lower budgets due to the need for large school buildings, transportation and whatever. But the rest of my day has been buried under a pile of laundry, paperwork and cleaning that NEED to be done! After today only 8 more days! And Ethan is determined to get a smile out of his busdriver this year if it's the last thing he does! He got on the bus this morning and said, "guess what Mrs. C? I capsized a canoe this weekend and there are only 8 more days after today!" And she still scowlled at him! I'm begining to think it's a permanant fixture on her face! We received two graduation party invites today. Thankfully they are on different days and one is just a block down the street! The other is on the northside of the county but we'll go anyway - it's been a long time since we've seen folks up that way, and the graduate is a girl that used to babysit a lot for us before Ty was old enough. It's just hard for me to picture the little 7 year old child I met 10 1/2 years ago is now old enough to graduate high school! Anyway. We also recieved notice that Ty's 8th grade graduation and awards ceremony is on the last day of school AND Ty will likely be getting at least a three awards, one being for his volunteer service to the Zoo, his brother's cub scout troop, and his school, one is academic and the third is for his theatre work. Whoops! There goes the buzzer on my dryer! Must fold a load of laundry and get the whites in the wash! Everyone is complaining about not having socks! Blessings, Garsy

Thanks Dee! Nathan was lying in bed with me this morning waiting for Dana to get finished in the bathroom and I asked him if he thought he was going to have a Great week this week again (we call it a Great week because he gets a 'Great job!' stamp every day that he's not in trouble) and he thought about it for a minute and then grinned very cutely and said yes. He's such a monkey. I printed out Ephesians 2:10 and taped it to his wall a couple of weeks ago and he reads it out loud every night. He was so tickled when I explained to him that God has a job especially for him, and if he takes the time to live the way God wants him to instead of the devil, he'll someday find out what that special job is. Now all I have to say is 'Are you being careful to do good works?' when he's getting out of hand, and he calms down and thinks about what he's saying and doing. Garsy, would doing a 'letter to the editor' type thing in your local paper about the bussing issue be an option for getting the word out? I have no idea what would be allowed and what wouldn't. I don't know about where you live, because we have such issues with consolidation in AR, but we're 15 miles from the school and there's kids another 10 miles at least past us. If we were to have to drive the kids to school every day, at the current gas prices that would be over $8 a day in gas driving back and forth to school alone! That's insane!

ORIGINAL: garsyt Whoops! There goes the buzzer on my dryer! Must fold a load of laundry and get the whites in the wash! Everyone is complaining about not having socks! Blessings, Garsy Garcy, Last time Jake complained of having no socks, I did all of the laundry and he still had no socks. We have no idea what he did with them. I had to go out and buy him all new socks for the second time this year. We looked everywhere. On a more serious note, it is good that you wrote that letter. Maybe some changes will be made. It does seem odd that they are cutting the acedemic things over sports. Just weird to me. Although maybe they are not cutting sports, but raising fees for them and passing that cost on to the parents and students who are in them. Just a thought. I am just patiently waiting for the school year to end. We sold our house and our buyers are starting to make some out of line demands. Everything has been done, offers have been made and accepted. The inspections are done and now they want us to pay their closing costs. I don't understand how their realtor could even bring that to our realtor knowing that they are under the contract they signed which said nothing about closing costs. Soon this will all be over.

Garsy, I hope Ethan is able to get a half a grin, or a sparkle in her eye. Sounds like maybe she's a lonely person who doesn't have much joy in her life. Nah it's just certain children! She'll smile at Zoe, at other kids but she tends to play favorites, and Ethan is obviously NOT one of her favorites - not even close on that list. At least he's been doing very well the last couple of months on the bus and at school and there has been no bad behavior reports at all lately! Oh and some good news finally! Brian's unemployment application has been approved and we should be getting unemployment checks soon! Blessings, Garsy

Garcy, that is good about the unemployment. It is never the same as the paycheck when it comes to dollars, but very helpful. So I am glad you got that through.

ETHAN DID IT!!!!!! He finally got an "atta boy!" and a high five from the bus driver tonight! Made his day! Made mine too! Had a very long day at school today too. This morning was the 1st grade field trip to the Zoo. I had Zoe and two other little girls for 2 hour at the zoo. We had a ball! Then I came back to school and since Aryn had a girl scout meeting after school I decided to stay and just help out where needed, mostly 3rd grade and kindergarten. My sweet, sweet, kindergarten teachers and kinderkids gave me a beautiful hanging basket full of flowers, AND a $50 dollar gift card to Michael's Arts and Craft, as a thank you gift for helping them out this past year!! I was blown away! Totally blown away! I'd like to work on teacher gifts this weekend, BUT I think we are going to have to go the the SW part of the state to see Brian's folks. His dad is in the hospital again, the 2nd time in a month, from a simple cut he got on his toe while hunting way back on the 8th! He's a diabetic and has other health issues, so this is not good. He now has pain shooting up his leg instead of just in his foot. This doesn't look good at all! Thursday - I'm gone ALL day with the 4th grade. We are going to the state house, and a museum. The teacher's managed to each get 9 parent chaparones per classroom so we should just have 2 or 3 children each. Blessings, Garsy

Found out a little good news today! The school is hiring a fourth 4th grade teacher for next Fall and from what I'm hearing the Science teacher is most likely the person who will take the position. Posting on the HR job postings is just a formality that they have to do. Ethan will be thrilled if he gets Mr. B.! I will be thrilled if Ethan gets Mr. B.! Oh and if you don't hear from me by Friday, PLEASE send out a search party!!! Depending upon the group of kids I get, I just might not survivie tomorrow! Blessings, Garsy

That's good news about the science teacher Garsy! Have fun tomorrow! And yay for Ethan breaking the ice with the bus driver! Danasmom, I laid down this morning after the kids went to school just because I could, and it'll get harder with all the kids home. So your nap sounds nice! WE ARE DONE!!!!! Now we're on to the season of summer and all that entails. I need to go sign the kids up for swimming lessons. I should have done that already. My oldest goes to camp on Sunday. Dee

I survived!!!! And so did all the kids and other chaperones. We went to the Indiana State House and the state museum. Very interesting and I want to go again with just me and Aryn or maybe as a family if we could SLOW down and get a chance to see everything without being on a schedule. The prices were very reasonable too! Of course we got a group discount for the school group but even without the discount it would be worth it for just our family to go! Ethan's excited now, because his teacher told them yesterday that they will not have any homework for the rest of the school year! I guess that's okay. The main focus of the last week will mostly be end of the year clean up, parties, and field day. Oh and I guess the third graders have to finish up their big book report projects. Ethan has already given his tho so he's done. Ty has two finals next week. His German final is on Tuesday and his Geometry final is in two parts on Monday and Tuesday. His Geometry teacher called Brian yesterday afternoon and has suggested that Ty repeat Geometry next year. She thinks he is really struggling this year and that a do over would do him good. I agree as this has been a rough year for him, but he still has to take that final next week. Ty's not bummed about it at all! Now I'm off to see if we can dig Brian up a job and to wait to see if a fellow freecycler ever gets back to me about a dishwasher! Blessings, Garsy

Kylie-I'm sorry that your son tore a ligament in his foot. Do you think it will make him think twice about getting angry (if I am interpreting his game of Stompie correctly)? The swimming pool opens tomorrow...my youngest ds will be very happy!!

Hello everybody, hope you all are enjoying your long weekend. It turned a bit cool here in "sunny california" but it will help the fires in the Santa Cruz mountains. We are dong well. Jessica had open house Thursday, dh went with her. It was also a celebration of the school being a California Distinguished school. One of the local T.V. stations sent a crew to the school and Jessica was on camera. The had one of the Air national guard Blackhawk helocopters land on the lawn to deliver the banner and the kids got ice cream sundays. It was fun for them. I'm in school too and it is going great. We have quizes every other day and so far my average is 97%, including one 100%. The twins are doing fine. Not much to report on them. Next year will be a big change for them. They will be in a new class with a new teacher. They have been with the current teacher since 1st grade. Next year they will be in 5th. They know the new teacher but they haven't been with her all day yet. So we'll wait and see how it goes. Have a great weekend my friends, Kim Q
