stampinlady -> Rose of Sharon not looing alive and well??? (5/2/2008 10:39:17 PM)

My father gave me 2 cuttings from my grandmothers Rose of Sharon. I planted them in the right spot last summer/fall and they're not budding yet. Is it too early?

Yes, it is too early. Give it some time, the leaves are just starting to form on the rose of sharon. We have bunches of it. That stuff grows anywear and it is pretty hardy. We have white, and pink, and one of is a mix between pink and purple. They attract lots of bees and the bees are good for polinating the plants in your garden.

yes, it's too early... depending of course on your climate.

My mom's is in Northeast Pa, and it sometimes doesn't bud until everything else has budded, and started to bloom... so it's most likely just too early.

Whew, I was so worried it was dead. I'm in Zone 5 and the plants came from Detroit so I figured it be ok to plant. I thought it was sweet of my father to bring me home some cuttings. Grandma dies last year and while I wasn't really that close to her it's nice to have something from her. Thanks.

It's too early here, and I'm south of you. It's probably not dead...I don't think you can kill those things.

My rose of sharon tree died. We couldn't figure out what was wrong with it but we dug around the bottom and bugs had eaten it and it almost looked like it had rotted. I think we had it planted in the wrong place and it got too much water. That is all we could figure. It was pretty for a few years though.
