I used to think a lot of the above things myself, but now? I have no idea what the answer is, but then I've been more tempted in the last six weeks then I think I've been in the entire almost twenty years I have been a christian (though it could be that it seems that way because I have not given in).
I am dealing with industrial strength "stuff" (not sin) I've never surrendered. My advisary is not very happy that I may actually get free. I am exhausted behind the process. I have faith though, that is not lacking - I happen to know God is the ONLY thing that will get me through this.
So perhaps it varies from person to person and there is not one set "thing" that makes it worse.
I think the secret to anyone's success, for what it's worth - is willingness and when you have none, pray and ask god to make you at the very least, willing to BE willing.
I have experienced more temptation when I am strong in my faith and am walking with the lord. Because that is when the enemy targets you . Satan is not worried when you faith is weak and you not being obedient according to God's word. Although 1 Coirinthians 10:13 says And God is Faithful" he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
