How do you pay your bills? I pay my bills over the phone most of the time. It's quick and easy for me.

Miss Giggles -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/3/2008 12:20:53 PM)

I pay almost all of them online. Except for the car because I pay extra on that and if I mail it in it will go to the principal instead of prepaying the interest.

I don't pay by phone because they usually charge a fee for it.

Online when possible or check. I like to write/mail my 'ministry' checks because I feel more 'connected' with the cause. At least once a month I 'do' and think about them and the stamps are a small price to pay to feel connected.

I think two of my bills have the capability to be paid online or via phone . . . HOWEVER, I love my checks! [:D] I will probably continue to pay bills by check until that is no longer an option. Most of my bills don't have an online or phone capability anyway.

The only exception to the above is Netflix; they deduct payment automatically.

crownlaurel -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/4/2008 12:19:55 AM)

I pay the vast majority online or by automatic payment. I pay my car payment in person by check because they don't have electronic options and I pay my water bill by debit card by phone because their online payment costs money.

I really hate writing checks and I have not bought replacement checks in a couple of years, which also means I have used all my deposit slips and have to fill in a generic one every time I deposit money.

Oh, I am so old fashioned! I pay most of my bills by check. The only time I pay by phone is if I'm about to be late and need to avoid a late fee. I only have one bill I pay online, my car payment, and that is because I have online banking. The loan is with the same bank where my checking account is, so I just transfer the funds. Sometimes when I do pay online, I can't help but think about all the millions of dollars in our economy that are moved back and forth by computer and only exist in cyberspace.

Galilee -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/4/2008 8:06:57 AM)

I pay most of them on line. That way, they can't say they didn't receive it in time, like they could if I mailed it in and they held it, to charge me a late fee, which I have heard happens as well.

Online bill pay for almost all of them. We have a schedule set up, where all bills fall onto week 1, 2, 3, or 4 of the month. Hubby gets paid weekly, so then we pay the bills every Friday on payday. We do have some auto withdrawls, but I enter them in MS Money way early, so we don't risk an overdraft. I have my mortgage company take out 1/4 of a payment every week, and weeks that have 5 Fridays make a payment as well, to go to principal. At the end of the year that is an extra payment, and will equate to us having our mortgage paid off about 7 yrs. ahead of time.

Our other auto withdrawls are our seaworld annual passes ($10.58 a month!), netflix, and our trustfax account.

:-)

Depending on the bill, either online manually or automatically. The ones that are the same amount every month come out automatically; the ones that vary are manually done online.

The only thing we pay by check is our church offering.

I don't know if there's such a thing as paying bills by phone here.

2by2 -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/5/2008 9:34:49 PM)

I don't pay them because I don't have any sweet moola!

My husband has all the money and that is his responsibility. He pays most of them on line. He is a tech-no-logical geek and would bathe the children on line if he could.

Anything can be paid if you go through your bank. I receive checks generated online from my daycare parents. I pay my step dad once a month via online banking as well.

Thanks, but I like my checks just fine. [:)]

Angie_K -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/6/2008 11:11:33 AM)

On line. Quick and Easy.[:D]

APZR -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/6/2008 9:38:49 PM)

A mix of online, check, and credit card. Some of our vendors are not set up for internet or credit card payments, so old fashion checks have to go out.

meg4 -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/7/2008 11:53:04 AM)

Mostly online.

earthless -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/7/2008 12:00:26 PM)

90% by check - because I like to control when a payment is made. The other 10% online, and that is because it is not a big ticket type of bill.

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/7/2008 12:11:57 PM)

That's another reason why I like to pay by check! [:D]

Besides, paying bills is relaxing for me. I sit at my desk, go through whatever needs to be paid and any other paperwork for that week, update my check register, file everything away and then go on with my day. It takes me anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour (sometimes a bit more), depending on what that week puts in my in-basket.

meg4 -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/7/2008 2:06:24 PM)

With my online bill pay, I can control the date it is paid. When I set up the payment I have to put in the date I want it to be paid. I usually set it up to pay the day before it is due. If I were mailing a check, I would have to send it several days early to make sure it got there on time.

WhiteRoseBlessings -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/7/2008 2:30:43 PM)

That's never been a problem with me. Since I pay my bills on a weekly basis, they all pretty much get there early anyway.

It's interesting to read about how people do things and why they do it that way. [:D]

BJinWA -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/7/2008 6:31:33 PM)

i pay as many as i can by credit card, including groceries, utilities etc. i tried to put my mortgage on a card, but they wanted too big of a fee. then i pay my credit card in full on line and sit back and wait for my 1% rebate check.

Online for the rest. I generally write 3 to 4 checks a month. (Condo Association doesn't take online or credit cards, nor does my church)

As long as he knows water & electric don't mix.[8D]

Just started paying electronically through our bank. Saves me an envelope & a stamp.

Some of our bills go to our Discover card then I pay that one electronically.

redeemedsaint -> RE: How do you pay your bills? (5/10/2008 9:10:20 AM)

I pay most of mine by check. One which is my health insurance, I have that automatically drafted and it is cheaper that way than writing a check, which would be more.

Standing Order, Direct Debit (which I think is what you call automatic payment) from the bank account or credit card, paypal, and rarely, cheques.
