Georgia-Peach -> Homemade BBQ Sauce (5/6/2008 3:21:34 PM)

I am making bbq pulled pork tonight and noticed that the bottle of sauce I bought has high fructose corn syrup as the second ingredient [:'(]...isn't that bad? Well I was curious if anyone makes their own and if so would you care to share. I am looking for something relatively easy to make and doesn't require a ton of ingredients. Thanks!

Brown sugar, Ketchup(or tomato paste), Worcestershire sauce, sometimes liquid smoke, minced garlic... I feel like I'm missing something but I can't think of what it is[8|]

I just use ketchup, brown sugar and liquid smoke.

Paul makes it and puts molasses in it. I don't know what else goes in it tho.

ketchup has CS too so if that's what she wants to stay away from then that's not a good ingredient.

I make mine with tomato paste, onion (sauteed or dried flakes cause hubby is picky about onions), bit or brown sugar, and vinegar drizzled in til the right consistency.

Mine's kind of like that except molasses and honey instead of brown sugar. That would kind of be a base, then I add other spices until it tastes the way I want it---cumin, onion and garlic powder, ground red pepper, cracked black pepper. I don't use liquid smoke, but I have some smoked sea salt that I use in it.

I can find a few brands of organic ketchup that do not have HFCS in them, but I haven't been able to find worcestershire sauce without undesirable ingredients. I haven't looked at the health food store, since if it's there it would be expensive and I really wouldn't use it often enough to pay the price.
