Amen to Funny girl. I have not suffered from depression but i have suffered from other battles in my mind. I like the phrase BATTLEField of the mind. It is a battle for and in my mind at times. I think about things i don't want to and can't think about things i want to. Just like Paul says. But i agree the book helped me and the tape is really good. What's interesting about the tapes is that you can listen to it 50 times and still get something out of it because often the mind "drifts" and next time i listen to it i hear it.

I don't suffer from depression either but do have low self esteem,and have trouble trusting others.I am also not good at making friends and shy around new people.This book has really helped me and I love it.

A tape by Joyce which you might enjoy and be blessed is Knowing Who You Are IN Christ. I was blessed by it and it helped my with a lot of issues. I know you will learn its who you are in Christ that matters. I know the subject is Joyce "s books but i personally like her tapes better. She's pretty strong but that's what i like about her and you get the impact when you hear her voice. The books don't come across as strong. Be blessed.

Thanks for the info.I will try and find that book next time I am at the bookstore or the tape.

I was interested in reading the Battlefield of the Mind, but like another poster stated her writing is choppy and I have yet to finish any of them, except the fiction book she wrote with Deborah Bedford called the Penny

I don't know much about the other stuff folks are claiming, but I don't read that much of her stuff to find fault.

go to Walter Martins Apologetics Index and read whats listed about some of the popular professing Christian authors and teachers, and then discern what you should do.

Iread a book by joyce meyer on receiving the Holy Spirit, it reintroduced me to pentecostalism since Iwas apentecostal for 35 yrs. before I left that to study the scripture with Arnold Murray, whom I also left to return to my first love which is the catholic church, but I still like to read pentecostal books as well as catholic books. Currently I'm reading Derek Prince "Rules of Engagement" and I'm half way through the nearly 700 page "Catechism of the Catholic Church", I also support Joyce Meyer's missions charity.[8|]

One of Joyce Meyers' books is what began my transition into a better life.

I was in the middle of an awful experience which had me basically lost, and I looked and saw the book in my daughter's room, and began reading.

Now 6 months later I don't "need" her teachings anymore. IMO she is very basic and simple. This is good because it helps those that have no guidance and are basically lost, as was I. People that need to know where to start.

Seems to me that God knows exactly what he is doing with Joyce, he has positioned her for people who are in a specific phase in their life and need a little nudge in the right direction.

Some people remain longer with her and her teachings, nothing wrong with that if they feel God while reading her books and it is helping them emotionally and spiritually.

There are a lot of people (especially women) who have experienced the same as Joyce as well. They can relate and feel comfortable reading her stuff because they feel like they could have written her personal story, and that is why God has positioned Joyce where he has, to bring those lost closer to him through Joyce and through Jesus.

No less than Anne Lamott is a fan of Joyce Meyers and describes her as "so Jesus-y".

I've read one book by Meyers called "Reduce Me To Love" and find it quite good in content and teaching. Highly practical, real life stuff, which seems to be her strong suit. Yes, it's not the best writing style, as it clearly seems to be clips from sermons and talks put together, but I don't mind. The message is always to trust God with everything, not expect life to be easy, throw out any baggage that keeps you from God and trust Him enough to actually show love to those around you. That's gospel to me.

One of her books I enjoyed a lot is entitled "Managing your emotions" . It is a wonderful book, as is the case in all her books. This book has helped not only me, but also it enabled me to understand people a whole lot more, especially as I minister and evangelize to others.

Beauty for Ashes is another one of her books that made a big impact on my early spiritual walk. If, you've read it, I'd like to hear your comments. I have also known Beauty for Ashes to have helped many Christian women. I think it is better the Battlefield of the Mind; it addresses similar issues. I think there is still some wisdom to be gained from Joyce, no christian is perfect. I think we will see her in heaven.

I believe as Christians we do have to sift through what we watch, read and listen to because it's a slippery slope...in saying that, I personally have read and watched Joyce Meyer many, many times and not one time did I read anything that strayed from the inerrant word of God. Not once did I hear her preach anything that differed from the one true belief that Jesus was born, he was crucified for our sins and rose from the grave to join the Father in Heaven, defeating death and giving us a place in Heaven...period. I do not "follow" any person, only God, but Joyce Meyer and a few other Evangelists do offer help and advice (i.e. Billy Graham). Her books and teachings are no replacement for God's word but she helped me to define and understand the Bible and she did offer wisdom and clarity. Her website also gives people a chance to see what else she does besides write books. She and her staff travel to third world countries and provide food, shelter and the message of Jesus. I respect her and what she does and have never felt that she led me astray. Each time she elaborated on something in the Bible, I would go to the Bible and look it up. I didn't read anything that seemed heretical at all. Everyone has their opinion and as Christians we do need to help each other but I don't like the idea of people getting on here and essentially blackballing someone because of their opinions. The proof and documentation is out there and I think everyone can make a well informed decision on their own. I don't read as much Joyce Meyer as I used to but I feel that was a "season" in my spiritual life. I enjoy reading so many different books now but I always got something out of every Joyce Meyer book I read.

Sorry! I posted before I read this.

I've read Battlefield of the Mind, Managing Your Emotions (I needed badly at the time), How to Hear from God, The Power of Simple Prayer.

My favorite was The Power of Simple Prayer--Wow, it taught me so much about prayer. Joyce's earlier books were choppy and a little hard to follow but I think those were the books that she wrote early in her life. Books like The Power of Simple Prayer were so uplifting and I loved the way she described different prayers we have and how talking to God is such a privilege and honor but he wants us to talk to him as we are. When I was younger I used to believe that I had to use "thee" and "thou" and other fancy words...it's amazing how we hold on to those beliefs. Now, my prayer life is so personal and intimate. If I'm struggling with something I just pray, "Lord, I need you, please help me." The power of SIMPLE prayer is amazing.Please do not reply to this message within the Community.
