that boy can eat LOL!

Today I made some hummus...mmmm...I LOVE hummus, and have been itching to try my hand at it. I finally found tahini at wal-mart, so I made some and it's wicked good! I added some sweet/spicy thai chili sauce too and my kids LOVED it. I have another loaf of bread in the bread maker because they ate all the bread with hummus for dinner.

I'm making oatmeal raisin cookies too.

Cordial means alcohol here. Do you have those kind of pops there, Nicole? I much prefer them to the kind on a stick...much neater for little ones. Not to mention cheap...$4 for 100.

Triumph! I got all my laundry put away. I made cookies and managed not to eat them all coming out of the oven...just 1/4 of them i have bread in the breadmaker, a load in the washer, dryer and dishwasher.
I am a happy mama. It feels really good to get all that done. That is seriously the most I've accomplished since Justin left.
although..with the dishwasher, breadmaker, oven and dryer running..it's a little hot in here....but I'll live. LOL

You got way more done than I did today. But since Brian now has to take the van tomorrow, I'll get what I need to done then.

There is some cruel irony to working all weekend on other people's cars and then discovering that your own is now broken, isn't there?

I thought so too. Brian lost his front brakes on the way back from bringing Nick home. Yippee.

BUT...now I don't have to take Levi to his well child appointment tomorrow and fight over the reason he's not having his MMR yet.

Did you save me any cookies, Sandy?

Today, we celebrated Jimmy's b-day at a really nice park we found with my mom. It's like halfway between our house and my mom's house so it would be great for the those weeks we can't afford to go all the way. Jimmy loved his carrot cake. And, Timmy had a great time playing in the fountain and at the playground.

HERE is a pic of Jimmy's first bite of b-day cake on his grandma's lap.
More pics HERE.

Let's see ... today has involved doing laundry and going grocery (and household) shopping. I'm shocked at how cheap milk is in the US! I picked up a gallon of whole milk at Sam's for under $3! ... The same size jug of whole milk here would be in excess of $5! I did a HUGE amount of grocery shopping at Sam's and Walmart in the US today ... the same groceries here would have cost at least $100 more. I think I'm going to keep doing my groceries over there. The only things I can't bring back are the fresh fruit and veggies, but that's okay, as I really like going to the farmer's market each week.

And we splurged yesterday and bought an ice cream maker (the Rival one which doesn't require the ice and rock salt). So dh and I are eagerly awaiting the dinging of the timer -- I've got chocolate ice cream on the go! This machine only does 1.5 qt, but that's still more than enough for our brood who rarely get to eat ice cream ... I'll probably do up some strawberry sorbet or something tomorrow, but tonight it is chocolate chocolate chocolate for the two of us! Our sons react to chocolate, so we indulge once they are all asleep.

ETA: I just noticed a bunch of fireworks out my front window ... people are having fun celebrating Victoria Day weekend ... it's nice having the park on the corner -- I don't have to leave home to get a clear view!

Yeah Donna we have both kinds here, I like the ice blocks because it is less messy like you said. We don't have ones as cheap as you though!

Poor Brian that is so not fair.

Not a lot going on here today. Have to go to my mom and dad's they need me to clean up the house. OK they don't need me to but they are getting me to do it. They could do it but they just don't want to do it.

(((Michelle))) How's gearing up for moving going? Does your dh have a job lined up and have you found a house?

Christina- How's the quitting going? Jimmy is so cute!! Best wishes for his Birthday!

Sandy- can you post the hummus recipe? I want to make mine from scratch, and would rather make a recipe with a glowing recommendation than just one I found.

I'm going to be busy today away from home. I have a make up skating lesson this morning and then this afternoon have some errands. I also need to declutter the house. We were in and out all weekend, so lots of things just got dropped when we came in... and still sit where they were dropped.

Welcome Ashley, glad you've joined us! I'm Rachel, 27, SAHM of 2 (Isaac and Isabel, 3 and 1).

Hope you ladies had a great weekend! Ours was pretty quiet, hubby worked so the kiddos and I hung out at home. The weather is so beautiful!!!! I think we'll finally get to plow/plant the garden this week because there is no rain in the forecast and the heat should help dry up the ground (it's going to be 93 today!). The kids are loving playing outside.

I put some of Isabel's stuff on ebay this morning, yesterday I got out an Sunday dress she'd never worn before. I bought it last spring in size 18 month and was waiting for her to grow into it. I put it on her and I couldn't even get the buttons to meet in the back! She completely skipped it! LOL! And she all of the sudden grew out of all her church shoes. She really hit a big growth spurt over the past month or so!

Christina, happy birthday to Jimmy! What a cutie!

Thanks everyone!

Zippy, still going strong on the quitting, the patch works really good for me. Robert isn't using the patch anymore, but he's smoking 2 or 3 cigarettes a day, so not too bad. Thanks for asking!

Welcome Ashley! I'm 24, and I have two boys, Timmy is 2.5 and Jimmy is 1 year.

I much prefer the term freezie too!! My kiddos will grow up knowing them as freezies And pop, and say "pardon me?" instead of "what" and "hi" instead of "hey" ...

Tho I have found recently I feel like it comes across snobby sort of when I say "Pardon me?" - NO ONE down here says it. In fact I've had a few people ask me what I said and what I meant by it! I certainly DO NOT mean it in anything other than a respectful "please repeat what you said because I missed it the first time" sort of way, but I have begun to feel funny saying it!!

It is 11:15 and Paul is home for the day!! HURRAY! It was a nice surprise.

Christina--good for you!

Sandy--We love hummus here too. How does your homemade stuff taste compared to storebought? We tried making some once, and it was a total disaster, so now I just pick up some Trader Joes hummus when I'm driving past that store. I'm not sure I could compete with their garlic hummus.

quote:

My kids call them "those funny looking popsicles".

I though of some more things to add to my "Glad to be at home" list.
I was thinking this morning how lucky I am to wake up with my baby, and lie in bed for a while, just cuddling him and listening to him babble. It's nice to be relaxed and have the time to just *be* with him, especially since he's at his happiest in the morning.

Also, if my children were in daycare/school, I would miss *so* much of the stuff that makes them so enjoyable. Biruk is always doing something new, and the older two are forever making funny language flubs, authoritative "pronouncments" (Asrat used that word this morning--"I pronounce that we are going to Aldis first!"), asking me neat questions, etc. These things are spread out through our day, and come up when we're just doing mundane daily stuff--if I were gone several hours every day, I would be missing them!
