Has anyone here attended Messiah College - or is anyone at least familiar with the school? I am planning on attending this school because I want to go to a Christian school, but I was talking with someone recently at a local youth group who graduated from there in 2005, and he said that there were a lot of liberal professors there who didn't exactly teach/act biblically. For example, he had one professor who said Jesus was a woman (??), and he had another who tried to require students to watch a couple of movies in class that had a lot of nudity in them. There were a lot of other professors too who didn't really appear to be Christians. I plan on majoring in Biblical Studies, so doctrinal soundness and Christian commitment would be especially important for me.

I've visited there twice and done a fair amount of research on it, and it seems like an excellent place to me where God's Word is preached and practiced. But this conversation has given me some second thoughts and led me to re-consider some of my assumptions about the school and whether or not I should attend there.

I'll be praying to God for wisdom in this situation, but I'd appreciate it if anyone with some knowledge of the school could give me some feedback or guidance. Thanks!

I know people who have graduated from there and I could try to ask them questions for you if you would like, just PM me.

Hi. I go to Messiah College - I just finished my first year. I am Angel's friend. I have heard of a teacher that thinks God is a woman or something, but the teacher that showed nudity is something I have not heard of. I do not know what to tell you about that.

I think that there are teachers that are more on the liberal side, but I don't think that there is anything to worry about. I have not come across a teacher, personally, who tried to get me to agree with some crazy things. It really is not that bad. Even if the school had a majority of unsound teachers, the school promotes freedom to think what you want. The school also promotes responsibility to act with civility toward others at the same time, impairing teachers who may wish you would think crazy things.

As far as the major you are going to have, I am not sure what the teachers are going to be like - I am an environmental science major. What kind of views Biblical Studies teachers have is a decent question that I do not have the answer for.

My wife & I graduated over 10 years ago. Some of the teachers there at that time were feminists, and I think they are still there. Most of the profs were great. As I did not have much of a theological thinking cap on then, I can't say much about what was taught (Didn't pay much attention - but nothing stood out like what you said) in the Bible courses (only took the minimum required). Now I wished I paid attn more. I guess I was more ready after college - thus seminary.

Your post made me curious to research Messiah College. The following article discusses a book and it's editing by one of the Bible professors at Messiah...I think it would be well worth reading.

Here is another interesting article concerning Messiah:

I have found from doing personal research on the internet that a lot can be found by searching the names of individuals. If someone has written a book, or spoken at a conference, or written a published article you can generally see a lot of what people believe...without having to get 2nd hand informatoin.
