Lisa,

who would I contact if I was interested in something like solar power? Electric company? Gas company?

Blessings,

Has anyone thought of converting to some other form of energy? Like gas or wine or some other source of power.

I think this is an initiative companies should be taking up (If they haven't already. It's all about being responsible and dealing ethically). They should be offering opportunities for change and get rid of the oil and the mess it creates.

In the mean time I am quite happy on my new push bike. It goes like a dream and saves money and does not create pollution. If I can walk or hike it I will. I want to get one of those little bikes that you can attach to the back of yours so I can get the kids to ride with me. It is also good for the health. I wear a mask when I ride. My daughter tells me I am funny. That's ok though. It's ok to be funny even when you don't mean to.

I've been checking into solar energy for my house, because currently we are heated by gas in the winter. It's my understanding that the electric coop around here is obligated to help pay a large portion of the installation. We'll see.

Really?? How does that work? I don't think that's something we have here, otherwise I'm sure we would've heard about it by now.

I just found out about this program from a friend of mine, and I didn't have time to call the electric company at the end of last week about it. I'm calling first of next week, and my friend is going to bring me her information about obtaining cells for her rooftop or whatever. Wish I could tell you more, but I'll let you know what I find out. In the meantime, this might help:

edit:

BTW, I've heard that I can possibly generate power for the electric company and get paid for doing it. We'll see.

I do feel bad for people with less income who cannot afford to go independent at all.

I may be one of those people since it might well be out of my budget too.

Hey gas prices are down a bit in my neighborhood!! Just a little bit!

I also got us a 3 cent discount on our gas today simply because I asked if the station was one that was affiliated with a grocery store chain that offered a discount on gas for every $100 in groceries you buy. Well the station was no longer affiliated with the store or that program but because I was there at the right time and asked the stores owner, she gave me a discount anyway! YEA!!

Blessings,

Garsy

I voted for cutting down my driving, but there were other things in there that I do. I am trying to supplement my income and I also did buy a new car two years ago. But I am not going to buy another car now or move my entire house because of gas prices. My husband does have the ability to work from home and he does once a week and more if the opportunity arises.

I haven't seen $2.79 since this past winter! In fact I remember getting all excited when it was over $3 one day and dropped under that to $2.89 the following day! Around here lately, and a gallon had been as high as $4.19. It's now floating right around $4.06 to $4.10. I'll be pleased to see it under $4 again! Quite honestly I would LOVE to see it around $3.50 again - Then MAYBE just MAYBE the school district would stop restricting and limiting field trips for the kids or charging HUGE transportation fees OR threaten parents with a transportation fee just for the bus to take their children back and forth to school each day.

Blessings,

Garsy

Ours only went down to 3.97 from 4.25 cents. More if you pay credit/debit.

If the 2.97 's not a typo then someone made a mistake at the gas station ! LOL

I was wondering if that was a type too.

I had enough points at the grocery store that I filled up for $3.25 about 3 weeks ago. I usually get at least 20-30cents off a gallon when I fill up. One store gives you 10 cents for every $100 you spend accumulated. The other one gives you 10 cents for $50 spent but it must be accumulated in $50 increments so if you only spend $20 in a trip you get nothing. At the $100 store they also have specials every couple weeks wehre if you buy 8 products from a certain list you get 20 cents a gallon added to your total points.

Ours hasn't changed. The cheapest you can get locally (a half hour away) it is $3.94, and at the corner it's still $4.19.

.... I was forced to get gas this morning.... I thought $3.95 was a good price....

Until I passed the gas station closer to work... it was $3.89

I forced myself to figure out the $$ I would have saved... it was 60 cents....

So... I'm tryin' not to be grouchy over 60 cents!

Ours is down to $3.89 too. I think I even saw $3.87 but that's a place where there's no chance at a discount

..... I would ride my motorcycle to work....

Wait - I don't have one.

Seriously, though.... there is a motorcycle awareness campaign going on here because of the rise in bikers on the road...

They (who are 'they' anyways?) put out a commercial which truly shocked me the first time I saw it....

It simulated a crash (a car pulling into the path of a motorcycle traveling like 50 mph).... and the view point was from inside the car.

It really made an impact on me... I was careful before... but even more careful now....

Hey.... I'm rambling... is this off topic??

I don't think it's off topic.

I've noticed more people on bikes, motorcycles, scooters, golf carts, and 4-wheelers. Sometimes it gets annoying getting stuck behind a slow-moving golf cart in town, though.

That's about what ours went down to, but it was at $4.60 or somewhere near there.

Hubby said that gas was under $4, when he came home from work last night!!!!!

That thrills me!

Found out that our district is going to be charging a transportation fee for athletics, band, choir, debate and other activities that require travel. $30 at the highschool level and $10 at the middle school level. I need to find out if this is an across the board fee for ALL students or just the kids in those activities. It had better NOT be an across the board fee! I will fight that one. My kids aren't in any of those activities and I'm NOT paying for the football team to travel across town for a game when we don't really care and won't be attending.

Anyway - hubby thinks this is going to be an across the board charge that we'll have to pay.

Blessings,

Garsy

.... in the school we came from, the school board agreed to pay a certain amount... and if the activities went over the gas alottment, the parents would have to kick in and make up the difference.

I know that once, a band competition was canceled because the parents weren't able to come up with enough $$ to get the kids down there and back....

I thought this way was fair... the parents had a say in the matter... and were motivated to raise money as a group rather than to stick to price tag on other people...

I passed a station that was selling at $3.81 this morning.

Why am I feeling like $3.75 will be a good deal?

Bikes, motorcycles, and scooters I can understand. I would not want golf carts or a 4 wheeler on the road though. You can get killed real easily on a golf cart.

I still think the detroit media is biased. They love to put up stories about how dangerous pedestrians and bikes are.. well they want us to drive
