That's not true. Only cars that require premium need premium.

Your car is a pretty reliable , well made car so there is a different reason why your car wouldn't start.

However, some gas stations do add water to their gas (illegal) but not all of them are caught. Go to a chain like BP where they have their gas tested all the time. (not the independent guy on the corner)

premium myth

I don't drive so I really haven't sacrificed anything. All though I have noticed that the early bus that goes downtown has gotten fuller with people trying to save gas.

I just thought of a way to save ... no more mowing the lawn! Ya, that's it!!

I have a car that gets 40 mpg highway and last time I filled it, 34 city. I have always been pretty prudent with my gas consumption (errands on the way home from work ... and the shopping I need to do are always on my work route) ... so this really hurts, since there are no more ways to cut ... except for the not mowing the lawn thing!!!

I wish we had a transit system ... but we do not. I would love to ride a bike to work, but that is not a safe option where I live.

Fortunately, gas prices haven't hit me too hard. I drive a Corolla and live three miles from work, so I haven't felt the increase too much. But I do try to walk more to the grocery store down the block (versus driving), and I plan my errands more.

Being that I moved farther from where I work, I'm not saving much on gas. Though, now I'm not quite as far away from my fiance' as I was. So, that's helpful to both of us. And, since Lincoln is only 20-30 minutes from me now, (as opposed to almost an hour), when I do my major shopping, that does help. As often as I can, I do my major shopping while in Omaha, like on my way back home from Sharon's place. Or, if I feel the need to get it earlier, I keep them in her fridge/freezer until I leave for home.

A few months ago, I traded in my Kia Rio for a Kia Rondo. Basically, it's a 'cross' between a station wagon and a SUV. That is, it's not quite as roomy as a SUV, looks like a station wagon that's been taking some steroids, and gets a bit better gas milage. For a single guy mostly driving to and from work, it's not all that great of a car. But, when I factor in how much more room I have for packing things for moving, getting groceries, etc., then the savings start to fall more to my favor. Kind of a side note... My favorite color is red, I bought the Kia Rondo (El-Hassad--God's Steadfast love) on Valentine's Day and the color is......volcanic red.

Since I already watch movies on my home theater system than see them in theaters, I already save there. After Sharon and I are married, we plan on paying off my car and then trading hers in for something newer and a lot more economical. Personally, I would love a Kia Rio or Spectra (the next size up) with 5 speed transmission. But, since Sharon will be driving further than me, it will probably be 'her car.' Therefore, it will probably have to be automatic.. I love manual transmissions... There so much fun....

In Christ,

RC

I "budget" my miles ... no longer attempt to be the first to reach the speed limit (but am learning to be content in all things, including letting others beat me in my imaginary game ) and if I hit a stop light in the beginning and know it's one of those that takes a couple minutes ... I switch off the car and restart once the light changes (I heard about this last tip on the Today Show).

Hey, Psalms. I do much of the same.... kinda fun when you make it a game, isn't it? Something else I do is to try not to stop at a stop light... instead I will roll towards the red light and hope it changes so I don't come to a full stop. It makes acceleration easier and doesn't guzzle gas.

I also set the cruise control to the speed limit if I'm going down a highway. It's amazing... almost nobody in the past month has followed suit... there's a lot of people who will pass me (guzzling gas) and go well above the speed limit (guzzling gas) in 95 degree weather.

I've decided to leave a little extra time for me to get somewhere, and will go WELL BELOW the speed limit on the highway, of course set w/cruise control as i enjoy the game of driving fast just like anyone.......but, man oh man, i hate filling up!!!!!

Also, will just drive like those tourists taking a sunday drive around town.......i mean i keep up, but not at my usual speed.

Thank you for the much needed smile this morning Lisa! And I totally understand the "does not compute"! Can cars actually even "drive" under the speed limit??? Really?

Well, if I'm ever over in your area, I'll be one of the ones flying by you - I HATE going slow - I should be a racecar driver. *shudders*

I was the same way until I could visbily see my gas gauge sinking right before my eyes. That alone caused me to slow down quite a bit.

But, then i've really seen gas conservation before my very eyes!!!! so, that helps me!

I do use cruise control, or i would be flying just w/everyone else!

I was the same way myself. Then I got a truck with lower gas mileage... then I started quantifying... 20 mpg vs 18 mpg... 60 miles... 3.0 gallons/trip or 3.3 gallons/trip ... $4.00 gallon... $12.00 or $13.20 per trip... multiplied by three times a week... Needless to say, I learned to sloooooow down, combine trips, or eliminate trips altogether.

I combine things - just can't slow down......not in my nature.

I struck out on my own and moved to within walking distance of work. (~50min-1hr from family etc)

Gotta say, though, the area's nice and I don't miss the hour+ commute. (or filling up twice a week)
