Thanks for writing that. I think it's interesting. I hope you are taking good care of your illness, though.

And watch out for HisCovenant. She's always trying to make people eat broccoli.

If what I have read recently is right, eating brocoli (more than 3 times a week) may hurt me

Broccoli's all right but not a favorite. I eat it. If my husband had his way, he would have it daily. The best broccoli, though, is on a baked potato! Yum!

When I was at school, we used to eat jelly cubes. You don't have them in the US, but I seem to recall it was the gelatine in them that was meant to help strengthen nails.

They sell gelatin for that very purpose here, but it isn't kosher -- it's made from pigs.

You can get vegetarian gelatine now though.

Thank you for telling me! I'll check it out.

Oh, and Jlp1, nice photo. I've seen your name around some, so it's nice to connect a face to the name.

P.S. I don't look a bit like my photo

Pectin can also come from unripened fruits. It doesn't set as firmly, but I liked it better when home canning.

But that doesn't have the qualities of collagen that gelatin has for nails right? at that point pectin is a thickener. I know I could find a substitute for gelatin in foods but I don't think there is one out there that is the collagen source for nails/hair.

Actually, I've hear that it is a myth that eating or soaking hair, nails, skin, etc. in gelatin will result in stronger nails, hair, skin.
