FB, I have found that sometimes I go for several days without losing anything and then drop 2 - 3 lbs on the scale "overnight". I don't know why that is, but I figure maybe my body is waiting to see if I'm serious or if can 'wait me out' and I'll go back to my old habits if it fools me into thinking I'm not losing , lol.

Glad to hear you are a loser again though!

Thanks a good way to put it, hsgma....

But my brother just sent me a recipe for dosidos. Bad brother. Bad bad bad. lol.

I can resist. I'm doing that a lot better these days!

You Go, FB. Will power is the name of the game! Or something like that.

I do find that I pretty much have to not have anything chocolate or sweet in the house, or there is no resistence, sigh. So I just try to have only healthy stuff and sugar free jello around- if on my "free" day I really want something ooey, gooey, yummy I get it out for lunch or something. Then I don't have "extra's" around calling my name... "Eat me, HSGMA!" .

Hsgma...that's the ONLY way I can be successful--- keeping the bad stuff out of the house. My parents never set me up for that success because (since I've gone away to school) they've slowly introduced junk food into the house. I had good habits growing up, but it got harder after that!

I do like to get those 100 cal oreo bites....(the candy not the cookie). It's just enough to satisfy the sweet tooth. They're SO yummy...

Ryanne - what's the new Jillian Michaels DVD called?

I tried level 3 of the Shred the other day - just for "fun". Wow - totally killer. I went back to level 1 today.

Tammy, I did the "Back in Action" from THIS set. I really like her as an instructor, which surprises me since I'm not usually a workout "video" fan. I think she reminds me a lot of an old coach, and her workouts feel "real".

Everyone seems to be doing well! Yay!

I'm starting to see some progress too. My scales aren't too reliable. They give me a range, actually. I can weigh 3-4 pounds different in just a few hours time, according to that stupid thing. But the range is going down!

I CANNOT believe that I actually lost weight this week! I was down 1.2 pounds. I really credit my mom with that. She's doing Weight Watchers with me and has the house so well stocked with good for us goodies that it's very hard to eat poorly at home.

I'm trying to get my exercise ramped up. I've been feeling lousy and depressed lately and I'm hoping that getting up and moving again will help that some. I got a walk at home video today and am going to start that tonight to ease myself back into it.

Kat, is it one of Leslie Sansone's? I have been walking with her for the past two weeks and I LOVE IT! I don't have a sore back afterwards, and when I hop on the Wii Fit afterwards to do some rhythm boxing, I'm ready to go! If it's not one of hers, who is it? I am curious if there are any other people doing walking videos; I love the exercise and I can do it pretty much anytime. The intensity is up to me, so I can either go all out, or I can ease back a bit when my heel is giving me pain or my knees.

Great job on the weight loss! I'm down 2 lbs myself!!!

Today's joke from the newsletter:

At the scale manufacturers' convention, people often wanted to weigh themselves on different scales to see if they agreed. However, some visitors abstained, not wishing to advertise their weight.

A smooth-talking representative coaxed a woman onto his scale by promising her that he would not look and that she could even cover the digital display so only she could see her weight.

She finally stood on the scale, whereupon a loud, mechanical voice from within the machine announced: "One hundred and sixty-three pounds."

Since I've figured out my wacky stupidscale, how it weighs me and my "range", it seems I have lost 6-7 pounds since I started paying attention, Dec. 29. I guess that's not bad!

Not bad at all, Pam!

I am getting ready to start The New Rules of Lifting for Women, it's definitely different then anything I have done before but I think it will probably work better for my end goals.

Ryanne, are you doing the New Rules at home, or do you go to a gym?

I think I will have to do a combo, we don't really have any workout equipment at home other then some 3lb and 5lb dumbells. We just don't have room and we have free access to the gym on base. I just have to conquer my fear of the coed free weight room, lol. We do have a fitness room in our apartment complex but it's all pulley type machines which works for some of the exercises but not the majority.

How are the NROL working for ya'll?

It's working great. I switched from 3x/week to 2 because our bodies needed more time to heal. We have a weight bench, a bar and hand weights that can be changed. We don't have a squat rack, something for dips or a chin up bar. I'm watching the classifieds and will try to pick up more weight equipment. The biggest problem we have is the time it takes to switch the weights. Since Joe can lift more than I can, we lose a lot of time with switching. If we had extra weights, we'd each be able to work at the same time. I can't afford the "Y". The Salvation Army has a free weight room, but it's only open from 3-5 M-F.

I think the Y has income based plans if you ask.

I am not sure if I am going to switch gyms. Its pricy but I went for the group fitness classes and the pool and those are starting to change. So I might go to the 19.95 a month gym which is pretty decent except there are no classes.

I guess I should qualify the "we can't afford it" statement. We've belonged to our Y in the past and haven't felt that it was a good value for our money. I can spend a lot less and get equipment for our home that we can use whenever we want.

Are you watching Craigslist? I just checked ours and there is a TON of equipment for sale. If only we had room... In July we lose our base privledges, so we'll have to join a gym then. We started pricing them out and it won't be overly ridiculous. The upside to that will be having a daycare room so I can go during the day.

I gotcha. That's why I dropped Bally's. It was cheap but the maintenance wasn't there. I can't add any more equipment unless I get a bigger apartment. Prob next year.

I check Craigslist sometimes. I live in a small community and haven't found anything listed there by someone in my area. We have a free internet classifieds site. There were two sets listed there a week ago, but by the time I mentioned them to my husband, they were gone. I'm sure there will be more. I'm thinking of posting an ad on freecycle too. Someone may have some they want to get rid of.

What is your ultimate goal for your body?
I want to be healthy and in shape. I don't want what my clothes to have to be dictated by my weight.

Do you have a plan to get there, or are you looking for one?
I have been eating healthier and just being more conscious of the things I eat.

Do you have a time line you're working in to be 'in shape' by?
I would like to be in shape by this summer, but definitely by the start of next school year.

Do you have mini-goals set up along the way for yourself?
My mini goal is spring break. I am going to do a "weigh in" when I get home for spring break. I would like to have lost 15lbs by then.

All semester I have been trying to loose weight the healthy way by changing my eating habits and so far its working. I don't know how much weight I've lost because I am not weighing myself until Spring Break. But I do know that my clothes are looser, clothes that I could not fit at the beginning of the semester I can fit now and some clothes that did fit at the beginning of the semester are too big now. Please pray my strength in the Lord to stick to the commitment I have made to be a healthier me. Spring Break is in 2 weeks so look for a progress report around that time. Be encouraged everyone, I know its hard but stick with it. Be blessed.

WomanSavedByGrace - sounds wonderful! Try adding a little exercise, even walking. You're doing so well just controlling your eating, imagine how well you'd do with some exercise as well!

I gained 1.5 kg...not good...so I decided to do something about it. I went to the gym today for 2 hours! I did my own thing for about an hour, and had a 45 minute workout class that I stayed for. I also walked there and back, so thats about 2 hours. I was going to sit there and sulk about the gaining, but decided to be procactive instead .

I plan on keeping this type of schedule up too. I dont work right now, so I have some time on my hands. Hopefully next weigh in will be better. I am hopeful.

2jsmom, I like your avatar!

I'm starting to do better, with getting off the low carb diet and eating more complex carbs. I realize now that not all carbs are bad, just the sugared sweets and other refined sugar/white flour products. My goal is to increase complex carbohydrates and exercise, but for now, I'm working on 5 servings of fruits & veggies, 1-2 slices of whole grain bread, 8-10 cups of water, walking at least 5 minutes six days a week and strength training two days a week.
