Well, dieting has not been going so well for me. Most days I do stick to my diet relatively well, but I am seeing little results on the scale. For one day a pair of tight jeans fit a little loser (and I was excited), but the next day I put on the same pair and they were tight again (not so excited).

I know it is healthier to eat the way I am eating with rarely eating fast food meals and having several small portions of healthful foods during the day. But sometimes it doesn't seem worth it since I have barely lost any weight after nearly seven weeks.

Honestly one of the reasons I continue is so that my husband will continue as well. He is the one that really needs to lose weight. Today he weighed in under 350, and that makes me happy! I am hoping that he will get down to 250. He is a big 6'5" guy with a large bone structure.

Yay for your hubby! We were excited when my hubby dropped under that mark too. We're thinking his goal weight is a bit lower than your DH's- Chris is about 5'11", but with a big frame (think linebacker). He's sort of just maintaining right now b/c we've had to really watch our grocery budget the past few months and when he does south beach (especially phase 1) he winds up eating a lot of fish and lean meat.
Catherine- even if the scale isn't budging, think about how much healthier you are being, the $$ you're saving by not having fast food, and how much better you (I assume) feel when you're eating better.

I think I'm finally to the point that I need to make a commitment to this thread, rather than just reading it and thinking I should do something.

What is your ultimate goal for your body?

Weigh in the 140s or 150s. Be actively daily. Continue to learn to cook with healthy produce in new ways.

Do you have a plan to get there, or are you looking for one?

I have a very vague plan. Honestly, it's hard for me to mentally commit to losing weight because I was overweight as a teen. I don't even own a scale because I don't want to mentally or emotionally become obsessed with my weight. It's just not healthy, and I would rather stay emotionally healthy then be 10lb lighter. I also have enough stress in my life right now. My body, though imperfect, comes after some of the other people in my life.

The first time I lost it naturally by being active and busy. I had a hard time losing after my 4 children until my youngest started getting older. I've plateaued since then @160, but I've added inches around my waist (where I hold my weight anyway) which I consider to be unhealthy. I'd like to concentrate on getting back to a 30" waist for health reasons.

I'm not a big eater. Diet modifications also don't have a big impact on me. I do have difficulty finding the time and energy to be active.

Do you have a time line you're working in to be 'in shape' by?

No, that would work against me. I would like to see some little change every month (a few pounds lost, a feeling of energy, an increase in skill).

Do you have mini-goals set up along the way for yourself?

Create little activity habits like doing Wii fit or going for a bike ride every night. Create daily activity habits for my children that I can participate in. Keep a food dairy for a week. Create a list of appropriate snacks. Get my garden started. Eat more vegetables. Have a waist (a slight one..I've never had a really obvious one) again. Weigh 150.

Catherine it is frustrating. I also work with all men and they can drop weight instantly and they really don't believe that women have a harder time with it. I got tired of arguing with them. Some of it is water retention.

I am getting back into exercise. The weather kind of put me in a funk but now its nice out and I am motivated again. I eat a lot of fast food but I am going to cut it down to once a week or so. I just need to plan better. I am not the greatest cook so I eat a lot of the same things..

So I ran outside for two miles today and walked for one..

I've still doing terrible with both weight loss and late night binge eating. I gained 2 lbs this week, and have been eating like there's no tomorrow. LARGE bagels, brownies, ice cream, you name it, I ate it. Staying up until 2 am watching Animal Cops doesn't help, neither does my Mom baking my favorite kind of cake, Cinnamon Nut Ring.

I think I will make DAILY goals instead of weekly or monthly ones from now on, since I can't seem to stick with ANY goals. My goals for today are to eat a VERY SMALL piece of the cake at dinner and go to bed at 11 pm tonight. After today, I want to eat NO MORE CAKE, so that's my goal for tomorrow.

Welcome, Auben! I think this thread is great! Very encouraging.

Cinderella, I was discouraged too when nothing happened after over a month. I remember hoping it would be "cumulative", and sure enough, it seems to have been. I've only lost 6-7 pounds so far, since Dec. 29, but that's not bad considering I lost nothing before February. Still worked every day though. So keep going!

Small goals can be great!!

I think I need to make my goal to eat only 1 dessert per week. Maybe I should wait till after the next couple week's worth of birthdays though.

I should've given up dessert for lent.

I don't eat a lot of desserts , but I do like bagels. I found a good tasting all natural 100% wheat one at Whole Foods but I don't feel like making the extra trip for just that one item.

I never used to be tempted by sweets at all! That is - until I got pregnant for the 1st time. Since then I've added sweets to my salty cravings - too bad they couldn't have just switched place, but noooo, it has to be both!

Ladies! I have an announcement!

At the beginning of last month, I weighed and measured myself, and did it again this morning.

I have lost (drum roll please) 5 pounds and 3.5 inches! I can't really see it, but my jeans have been a tiny bit looser.

I'm almost ready to try on those really nice jeans I have. But maybe I should wait awhile. I couldn't face the disappointment!

How y'all doing?

Hi everyone! I lost 20 pounds last year due to the support of crosswalk and just plain ole stress! When I am under enormous pressure and extremely busy, I tend not to eat! I am the opposite of a lot of people. Now, my life is going much better (at least I am dealing with issues at hand much better) and now I am much happier, so the pounds are starting to come back on! I'm still in a size 8/10 but my pants are much tighter! In fact, if I gain much more, I will have to take out my "heavier clothes" and start wearing those. Yikes! So I am back and wanting to receive support for loosing again and support others here.

I have always been tempted by sweets and that is why I try not to buy too many of them. Salty stuff, not so much.

I am completely between sizes. Being short and buying a size other than small - the manufactures think you arms are longer too or something.

Just stumbled across this thread, and since the one at health & fitness doesn't seem to be too active, I thought I'd hang around here for a while.

Background for those who haven't read my other thread: two months ago I had a miscarriage at 19 weeks. Because I had two D&Cs I had been off exercise for a while; because I'm still exhausted and not quite done with grieving, my weight has been creeping up. My overweight isn't too severe, but having been overweight in the past, I want to nip it in the bud.

quote:

What is your ultimate goal for your body?

Lose the 15 lbs of excess weight; work back up to 4-5 workouts per week; get more energy; get my body back to being healthy enough to start TTC again.

quote:

Do you have a plan to get there, or are you looking for one?

Exercise; I'm also following weightwatchers since I lost a significant amount on it in the past. It helps that a colleague and I are going to meetings together.

quote:

Do you have a time line you're working in to be 'in shape' by?

I'm allowed to start TTC again around May/June, so I want to be healthier by then. If I can't lose the whole 15 lbs by then, I'd settle for losing at least the weight I gained during and after pregnancy, and being back to the gym at full force so I'm not ramping up exercise during pregnancy.

quote:

Do you have mini-goals set up along the way for yourself?

Track everything I eat so I can get to know the most challenging times/days of the week; cut down on sugar; get to the gym at least once this week. Since it's a short week and I go at lunch, that's all I can do.

However, I will consider it a minor triumph if I don't fall asleep at the office or eat a house.

Welcome to this thread, Anne-Girl! It takes commitment to lose weight, but it's worth it.

I've been eating a lot of high carb foods and sweets lately, which I know violates God's commands to me in Romans 14:14-23. Every time I pig out on bagels, trail mix, granola and cereal bars, ice cream sandwiches, etc, the Holy Spirit brings those particular verses to mind.

When I watched Biggest Loser tonight, I almost felt sick at watching the contestants eating all of those cupcakes, donuts, etc., to win complete power in the game. I mean, how ridiculous is that? Eating over 5000 calories to make sure that someone goes home? That's insane!

Yet, that's what I've been doing also. Eating all of those high carb foods just makes me feel sick, tired and depressed, so why do I do it? I don't know. Maybe it's just the stress I'm under right now. Either way, I need to stop making excuses and start back on my low carb eating plan, which I did tonight.

I made the mistake of wearing my 'skinny' pants yesterday. Never again on a Monday.

I'm not doing very well, but it's cold here and I'm moody. Not great excuses, just something I need to work on myself.

I did make myself some homemade granola for cereal though (oats, nuts, bran, honey) and some pitas to stuff for lunch (spinach and lite Italian dressing). I need to make more pitas tomorrow. I'm a little low on iron right now and that spinach tasted so good (how many times do I get to say that?).

Melissa, I thought that the overeating on Biggest Loser was ridiculous too. And to see the SICK look on their faces afterwards. But that's what WE do to ourselves when we overeat or don't eat healthy. No wonder our body doesn't always like us.

Well--after gaining ALL of my weight loss back (that's what the scale at doc office said on 3/6), I am back in the game now...down 8 pounds (from yesterday's doc visit & it's even that TOM).

I think DoF is saying she's down since the beginning of March. Way to go!

Well, I'm down 1.5 lbs according to the WW scale, but I find that hard to believe. I was voraciously hungry this week and my only goal was to track everything I ate, regardless of whether I went over my daily allotment. And even then, I didn't succeed.

I'm not trying to cut myself down, but I should probably verify by weighing myself at home tomorrow morning; weighing fully clothed, right after eating lunch, is not a good recipe for consistent weight readings.

Well, maybe you have lost more then, Anne

I was 152.8lbs this morning, I would LOVE to be under 150lbs by the end of the month. I just need to get back on track with exercise and it should happen.
