Having played cornet & trumpet since 1964 (45 years!), I can really appreciate the control it takes to play such a short instrument and to play in tune at lower ranges on it.

I can play at anything with strings, but could never
do the horns. But I love a good trumpet and sax tune.

Keep practicing, Lap! Is there a trumpeter around from whom you can get some lessons and advice?

I trimmed up my poplars last night. That is one good thing about Sukkot. It makes it much more enjoyable to get that job done. I probably wouldn't do it, if I didn't need th branches for my sukkah.

Every Sukkot, I feel so bad. HaShem says to do this, and I want to so much, but every single year, something happens, and we don't get one. This year, the same thing.

So, in desperation, today, I bought one of those collapsible outdoor gazebos.

I know that traditionally, this is all wrong, but it is what I have. I also ordered the four species, which I will arrange on the gazebo.

I keep thinking that I am getting older, and am not able to to do as I once did, so why not have this gazebo, which I can put up. What do you guys think?

Well, since I don't know anything about anything, I probably should say nothing, BUT wouldn't it be better to do something than nothing? Especially if you're out to please G-d.Doing what you can?

That almost sounds like a riddle doesn't it?

What will I do? Probably nothing because I just don't have a clue about anything- next year will be different!

Zzzzactly what I was thinking, Prolife, but I feel a little guilty! I want to please Him.

It looks like it meets the Scriptural standard to me. I put tarps around my pool enclosure, which is a perminent structure, though it did collapse under the weight of the snow because I left the plastic on top after sukkot. This year I'll uncover it after Sukkot. Some interpret temporary dwelling as a place where one dwells temporarily, rather then a dwelling that is temporary. These people, just spend the week in a timeshare or motel. I am a little more literal than that in my interpretation.

If I were in Alaska, I might go for a more sturdy structure or build an inside sukkah. Fortunately, where I live is somewhat of a dry wilderness so a tent structure works. I believe the point is to empathize with what life was like when we were wandering in the wilderness. If one comes away from the experience grateful for what Adonai has provided, I think it has served it's purpose. It need not be something one feels guilty about. It can become a fun experience. The Scriptures do not really define the structure beyond it being a temporary dwelling, so adding conveniences to accomodate ailments or disabilities is no problem in my opinion. It is also a time to invite others to join you. It iks an opportunity to introduce Adonai's ways to those around us who are unfamiliar with the Tanach. Inviting them over for dinner provides an opportunity to explain how life in the wilderness and Yeshua's birth in "the manger" fit together.

I just recalled something. This is not the time of regrets, that is Yom Kippur. This is to be a time of rejoicing. (Deut.16:13-14) "You are to keep the festival of Sukkot for seven days after you have gathered the produce of your threshing-floor and winepress. Rejoice at your festival - you, your sons and daughters, your male and female slaves, the L'vi'im, and the foreigners, orphans and widows living among you." This is the original thanksgiving. When one enjoys the fruits of ones labors. Having a garden helps me to understand one of the purposes of this feast. Frost is imminent here. Before, Erev I was trimming my tomatos so they will be ready for the final harvest. This week and a week or two following, I will be busy chopping, drying, cooking and freezing the abundance that Adonai has provided. Some also interpret "rejoice" to mean indulge. For them this is the time for eating and drinking (your threshing-floor and winepress) to one's heart's content. So, don't feel guilty, join with your friends in one anothers sukkah, in your snuggy if necessary, and rejoice!

No you won't. You may miss a particular celebration or two. However, you are presently living in a temporary dwell. So, celebrate already!

By the way, we had a mighty rushing wind here last night that tore the roof off of the Sukkah. Since, I didn't see a light flashing from the east to the west, I picked up my bedding and moved into the travel trailer. I hope to get the roof put back on tommorrow.

Things have been going on with us as well.

A couple years or so ago when we began this
journey a few of us pitched camping tents on
the property behind the church. Then for 8 days
we studied the Tanakh.

We haven't been able to repeat it as for various reasons.
But we can gaze at the full moon when the clouds allow
and talk about the season of Tabernacles. And wish Jesus
another happy birthday.

This year we just took the congregation out for a big meal
in the neighboring big city. Ewwwwwwww, how awful I felt
after stuffing myself. LOL.

Personally, I'm making a copy of Ecclesiates and making a
commentary for it. Perhaps I will use it for teaching next
Sukkot.

First frost is predicted here next week. Kinda early for us I think.

It's getting fairly cold here, so time in the sukkah is minimal. We have dinner in it, but last night, when I had eaten most of mine, I looked over at my husband and said, "Do you want to go in?" "YES!" he responded, so we gathered everything up in our arms and went in to sit by the fireplace!

Now that we have something we can put up for a sukkah each year, finally put up at the last moment this year, next year we will do what we can to warm it up. We just didn't have time this year.

But at least we can sit out there and bless the L-rd for a little while, and it is great, until the sun goes down.

Not picking fight or trying to make you feel guilty, but what do you think the women said to their husbands in the wilderness. Also, what do you think Yoseph did for Miriam?

Just trying to stimulate conversation.

Blue, you're funny! They probably said what I did! Perhaps . . .

"I am sick of carrying all this stuff and tramping all over these hills. When are you going to build me a house with a nice fireplace?"

He looked over at her -- one of those looks. Ashamed, she looked down and turned away. She knew better than to talk like that -- as if she was the only one who struggled with the constant moving.

After a quiet moment, she put her plate down and silently slipped over to where he sat, wrapping her arms around his chest. "We do our best, but is it so wrong of me to dream?"

"No," he replied thoughtfully. "It's just that I want that, too -- for all of us -- but first, we have to keep moving, to get to the Land."

Having guests over and a few cups of "antifreeze" make it more tolerable. I do have an electric space heater and propane lanterns that make it more comfortable.

Our outdoor firepit was left in the RV when we took it in for repairs, so we are just freezing this year. We usually get out there before dark, but don't stop yacking until after dark. It's a good, relaxing time to discuss all the great things!
