. . . from THIS thread:

quote:

ORIGINAL: HaveMercyonUS

Does anyone know if there is a thread on Messianic Jews? I would like to converse with some and learn more about it as I like to be informed and not just go around saying things like, "I think this is what they believe or how they worship."

There is a fellowship thread in the Theo House section.

Come on down, you will be met with welcome arms..........

. . . So, here I am.

At first I wasn't going to read the entire thread because of how long it is; but then I suddenly remembered that I spent almost 3 days reading a secular website (about goofy, silly and mean things customers do to customer service people). I figured if I could devote that much time to something that really didn't even matter, I could read this entire thread (so, I have a bit of catching up to do in here).

For many years now, I have periodically entertained the idea of learning about Messianism.
This thread seems like a good place to start with that.

Blessings,
Sharon-Marie

I'm looking for a resource, and maybe someone in this thread can help me.

I am wanting a Jewish Calendar in print form that I can use in my home. I've found online calendars, but of course I can't see the year as a whole like I could if it was in print.

Also, a helpful book or guide for "traveling" through a Jewish year would be great.

Hi Sharon-Marie! Funny how we are both looking at Messianics at the same time. I came on here to ask my question, and here you are!

Borders and other book sellers sell calendars, but if you wish, I could mail one to you.

My favorite online calendar is http://www.hebcal.com/hebcal/

Maybe this book too? Or this one.

Edit to add other book

Shalom WhiteRose.
Glad to see you and welcome, welcome, welcome.

I bought my calendar at Barnes and Nobles.
There are many on the market. Just depends on
what you want pictures of.

karaitekorner also has their version. LINK
It's an orthodox of sorts that calculates by moon sightings.
They do not believe Jesus is the Messiah...............
It's usually a day or two different from the common Jewish calendar.

Finally settling in since my vacation...

Hi Shar Mar, good to see you here. Good to see you period since I haven't bumped into you in the forums for awhile. Same to you Crankius.

There are a few websites that you both may be interested in looking at. More actually but the ones that most come to mind are Torah.org and First Fruit of Zion. I know you are not on fb anymore but the latter has their own page. Other than that, feel free to ask any questions anytime.

.....

Ok, some interesting developments with my SIL. We introduced her to Messianic when she came to visit a few times quite recently and loved it. She however has recently found a reformed ministry. She is convinced that her family has Jewish roots (which is great) and wants to work towards celebrating a bat mitzfah (sp?) for herself. She has always believed in Yeshua (at least I thought so) but now has made a decision not to.

I'm a little baffled. On one hand I am joyful over her desire to learn more about her Hebrew roots. On the other hand, it's a step back as well. What do you make of this? But I definitely am praying that she believes again.

My daughter is the same way with her jewish reform boyfriend. She has always been rather impressionable and has seen some rather deplorable behaviors among some professing christians. I continue to incorporate Yeshua into our Seders and discussions, but I think it best to simply encourage her to be as observant as possible. I pray, in this way she will see Yeshua is indeed HaMeshiach.

Just got back from trying another service; the leaders are back from vacation so I talked to them and they don't believe all the 'word of faith'/'speak it into existence' stuff.
And this congregation doesn't mind kids (good since my sons have to be taken out to get reminded about behavior sometimes) so I have some place to attend again!

So, what is their stance on bringing a rifle to convocation?

Ha! I would never advertise something like that.
Though with where I live I doubt anyone would even notice.

What's in a name? That which we call a Rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

Do any of you keep up reading the week's portions on your own?
I've a schedule that has NT portions also and have wanted to in the past but think this year I might actually have a straight enough work schedule to do so.

We go straight through the Bible from OT to NT verse by verse.
We follow no plan. We may jump from one book to another, but
we still do the whole BOOK. We've been doing the NT and started
after the gospels. Then we went back and picked up the Gospels.

We're in Luke right now and will then do John.

Once we have that done I think we may do all the end times scriptures
one by one and see what we come up with. Some years back I went
through the Bible and wrote down every scripture I knew was end times
and those that "may" be end time. So far I have typed up 31 pages and
am near finishing the OT. I think I may have time to type up the NT passages
before we discuss all those in the OT. Then again, God may have other plans. LOL.

We are doing the gospels on our week night services and the book of Job
on Saturday morning.

Do Messianics read through the Word as a congregation?

Our congregations are so varied, as the churches are: each congregation does things its own way.

My congregation reads through the Torah, beginning to end, with related passages from the Poetry, Prophets, and Apostolic Writings. We just started over in Genesis last Sabbath.

Thanks for sharing that blue. There has been a lot of growth in her in such a short period of time.

I have. In fact, I like torahportions.org cause I can listen and read them at the same time. They have audio. Interestingly enough I haven't decided yet on what I want to do this year. I haven't restarted. I may get into the Haftara and read about the Prophets. I have yet to really read the Prophets carefully.

Our Rabbi preaches whatever the Holy Spirit leads him to preach for that week's Shabbat service. For Saturday Torah class, he gets much more into detail. He and a group of 30+ left for Israel this past Sunday so his son will take over while gone.

FFOZ has a schedule for the histories of Yeshua and His disciples to go with the Torah and HafTorah parasha's. I'm a little skeptical with regard to the HafTorah since the rabbinic calendar jumps around alot. I know they leave out Isaiah 53.

We have discided to do the nonhistorical Apistolic Writings instead of the historical ones this year. Since there doesn't seem to be a schedule for these that matches the rabbinic calendar, I was asked to provide the schedule. If anyone would like the one I came up with, I will post it.
