You are right about the 2 minutes of personal time, I will keep them for myself.

Now the 6 open appointments- do you think each appointment being a full 10 minutes is too much? One of Jerry's friends laughed at my plan and said I could have his 10 minutes. Nice of him wasn't it.

10 days and a wake up til he gets on the metal bird for Kuwait.

OH! and our new Heat Pump is going in today... No more emergency heat!

A friend got the lawn tractor running(again) he said if it doesn't crank next time and is battery related then we will need to buy a new battery.

The truck is all inspected and tagged as law requires. it only took the installation of a new seat belt and a catalytic converter.

The Neon is acting up again- a 4th time since October... this time a church member is going to put a new Oil pump in for me.

The vacuum cleaner(only 3 months old) is on it's last legs. Someone remind me that I bought the 89.00 one because I had deiceded that the things were disposable what with BOYS using them. (Why do boys think that they can vacuum up dirty dished off the floor?)

The sewing machine died mid colonial gown. Had to buy a new one.

The wireless doorbell died... a miserable cow in a hail storm type mewling, groaning, moaning death. the boys think it is funny- Press the button and listen to it moan and groan at them. Not loud enough to tell us someone is at the door so I pulled the button down.

I am not doing so well with mechanical things recently. All that extra pay for being in a combat zone has gone to FIX STUFF that we haven't had break in our 20 years of marriage...

Barack Obama's proposed budget has a recommendation for a 2.9% pay raise for the military for FY10. (The military received a 3.9% increase for this year, FY09.) That 2.9% is generally accepted as NOT keeping up with the cost of living in the CONUS. The proposed budget also foresees further (and more widespread) cuts in the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH). (Ours went down $80 this year from last year.)

Just something to keep an eye on. Don't hesitate to write your Congresspersons and Senators and ask that they keep BAH as it is and match last year's base pay pay raise.

My honey called me from Kuwait this morning @ 7:00 he was getting ready to go through customs to leave!!!

He has yet to call me from either Ireland or Germany so I do not know if he has actually LEFT Kuwait yet. I am HOPEFUL though.

don't be disappointed if he gets stuck there for awhile. Justin got stuck in Kuwait for a whole extra day
Hang in there. It was terribly frustrating to not hear from him or not know where he is for almost a week...he's coming! Just remember that

Yeah- but they usually don't go through customs unless their flight is a GO- and then it might be a handfull of hours but not over night or the like. He has been in Kuwait waiting for up to 2 days but that was waiting even on going through customs. He did not go to customs until the flight was ready to "go".

am I making sense?

Anyway. I am hoping and praying for the positive. He said he'd call from Ireland/germany the only reason he'd not call is if they landed and his connecting flight was leaving in such a time that he had to rush to make it. *sigh* I keep thinking that I will get a call like at 4am saying he is on the ground and to come and get him. Wishful thinking.

I can think of a bazillion things that could have happened but none is going to make it happen any faster is it?

I am so not going to be able to sleep tonight. Perhaps I should go take care of that laundry on his side of the bed.

Stress cleaning anyone?

Hi everyone,

Do mother's of military son's fit into this thread. My son is finishing training in Borden and being deployed soon. He's in the Canadian Forces Infantry. His wife visits him as much as she can. Usually driving six hours to base until she can be with him on base. He is coming down this weekend for a visist. I'm missing him alot!

Okay, thank you for the welcome,

My son is still training in Borden just outside of Barrie Ontario. But when he is done he will most likely be stationed right away. He was suppose to come down this weekend but he can't due to fire duty at base.

It's funny though. He's lived on his own for two years but since he's been gone training everything seems to break down in my house. I'm used to him coming to help fix it lol!

I told a friend the other day that my son being away training in the Canadian Forces is a much different feeling than if he were out of town at University or College. I guess it's because I know his choice of occupation is such high risk and it makes my heart almost mourn sometimes.

Glad I"m not alone ladies.

Ladies, posting here with a question....

One of the moms in our homeschool gym group just found out her dh is being called up and will be in training 2 months in the summer and then to Iraq for 10 months. He's a chaplain for the MP, and apparently the MP's will be training the Iraqi police and military??? so they're the ones stuck there til the end.
She is so miserable about this. Thinking ahead to the summer time, what would you all suggest would be something nice I could do for her?

MEALS. Surprise her with meals right after he husband leaves. Maybe even some extra freezer meals. I cannot tell you how much of a blessing that is. It's so hard right after they leave...and cooking is just the last thing you wanna do kwim? We ate a lot of takeout and cereal.
Babysitting. If you are able and Josiah is willing, perhaps take the kids occasionally so she can have some time. Even time to go to the store, or run errands.
If Josiah is willing, perhaps help her with things around the house (repairs and such) of course, I realize Josiah is a busy, hard-working man...so that's just a 'hey if ya can' kind of idea.
Those are my best ideas, and things that mean/meant the most to me when Justin was gone.
Sandy

Maggie, my church's ladies group is assembling gift boxes to send to Iraq/Afghanistan this summer. They have a limited budget, so I can't guarantee they'll get to everyone, but if he has an address over there feel free to PM me and I'll pass it on. The ladies assure me they'll send to everyone they can, and I'm gonna ask Greg if we can make a special donation to the group for that purpose.

Spend time with her at her home. She will be lonely. She will appreciate company/companionship ... and possibly help doing around-the-house stuff. I would think that babysitting would be appreciated ... and even renting movies and bringing them over to watch with her.

(My biggest struggle during DH's many many deployments is loneliness.)

Speaking of Iraq deployments, not only does my wonderful DH have to go back later this year, but he's already been told to expect to be deployed over there in 2010 and 2011..... possibly twice each year. AAUUGGGHHH!

Thanks ladies, I will keep those things in mind. He's not going to land in Iraq til september so no address yet, but thanks sideways. I felt so bad for her. I think she's dealing with anger on top of the normal unhappiness because he enlisted against her wishes.

My wonderful DH got a call this morning ... he's being deployed (yet again) to Iraq ... and needs to leave in less than two weeks. He wasn't scheduled to go back until December, but they need him now. Fortunately, this will be a "short one" .... he'll be home in plenty of time to go back this winter.

Did I mention that this will be his 6th deployment over there?

(sigh)

Wow, they seem to need him there a lot!

Does anyone know how it is being deployed to South Korea? My brother is being sent there for 1-2 years.

My brother served in Korea for 1 year. He seemed ok with it, except he was apart from his wife for most of that time.
