Is Noah on the float: the kid with glasses near the front?

Yup, I figured out Nick because I saw the pictures in the other thread. Noah is a cute mad scientist

Our church is doing the Outrigger Island curriculm for this year's VBS. Based on Psalm 86:11, Outrigger Island is more than a tropical paradise. It's the place where kids will develop the stability they need to face a world of shifting sands and wavering opinions.

My nieces will be attending VBS for the very first time today. It's through a Salvation Army church.

They think that it's going to be boring because it's church.

I hope they'll have fun and learn about Jesus.

Well, I dropped them off and I could already tell that J-8 was going to be a handful. I hope they can handle her. I let them know that she has many behavioral issues.

Well, when we picked the girls up, they looked like they were having quite a good time. All the way home they talked about how much fun they had and what friends they were going to invite tomorrow. Then, after talking to their mom, they decided they don't want to go back tomorrow. Not sure what happened in the conversation.

Well, the girls decided that they wanted to go and then J-10 walked outside and had an asthma attack, so that didn't work. We're under heat advisory right now anyway.

The problem is that it's mostly outdoors and she can't be in the extreme heat when her asthma acts up. Also, they wouldn't be going today because we are taking my dd to the airport to go visit her dad. We'll be leaving right in the middle of VBS.

I am running VBS again this year, I started doing it last year and it was new to our church. There are so many wonderful things the churches are doing but I am afraid we really cannot do that much beyond the simple program and make up some crafts and activities. I was wondering how you all advertise your VBS to the surrounding communities, meaning people that don't go to your church? Are there any internet sites that list VBSs in the area? Anything similar?

We have a banner in front of our church. Most of the churches have their VBS's listed in the newspaper. Also, if the church is big enough to have a website it's often on there. If I don't see a sign in front of a church telling me when their VBS is I search online. We've found 4 (includiing our church) good churches that have well run programs that my kids have gone to and they have a sign out front advertising where it is.

When we first moved here I just googled VBS and our town and state.

ETA: We also put up fliers in stores and have a website so people can register online

We had that float in the parade (which ended up on the front page of the FREE local paper! WOOHOO!!!). We'll be handing out flyers at the Farmer's Market tomorrow. Last night, we had groups canvas the 4 towns we will be busing from, going door to door and inviting people.

Our church is in the middle of nowhere, so if we didn't advertise, we'd have no one but our own church families.

We start VBS on Monday. I am so excited! We are doing the Bible Blast station. I just love the stations way of doing VBS. When I was younger, I taught in the one room classroom sort of thing, and we were always too busy to have real conversations with the kids and we were always plumb worn out at the end of the week. I LOVE just having one station that I am responsible for and the kids are really benefiting from it!

Russ is wearing really big, round glasses to bring in the geeky scientist thing.

Russ will play the geeky scientist well. He is, after all, a math professor.

My job (registration coordinator) is turning out to be more trouble than I thought it would. So much drama in placing kids in crews. It's really hard to make everyone happy and some of the requests are reasonable, while a good number are somewhat ridiculous. Ah well...it'll all work out...

No. I expected yours.

Part of the issue also is that I was told to delegate to my team, and I have yet to see anything that could be delegated amongst a team of people. Monday morning there is sure to be plenty of work for all of us, but the pre-VBS stuff is really best done by one person. And I've never been on the registration team at all and I'm "in charge"...so...yeah...
