I watched a current event program on TV and there were a couple of guys whose cancer was directly attributed to the use of their mobile phones. They had huge cancers cut out around their ears. These medical researchers said the problem is as bad as smoking. Anyone got any thoughts on what the dangers of extreme mobile phone use are? I know I don't like to use mine often. Mostly for texting or quick calls. I also swap ears often. I think the research is alarming.

I read recently that Johnnie Cochran (OJ's attorney) believed the brain tumor that killed him was caused by his cell phone.

Despite all the hype that cell phones are indispensible, I have found that I survive quite well with just a land line.

No land line here. We gave ours up years ago and only have cell phones. Thankfully, I'm rarely on mine unlike so many others I see.

I've heard about the correlation between cell phones and tumors/cancer before. Years ago I saw and interview with Richard Branson, billionare owner of Virgin Atlantic/Records/Air, etc. He was talking about a close friend of his being diagnosed with cancer on the same side and area where he used his cell phone. Sir Branson commented that he will never put his phone up to his ear again. He uses the corded ear pieces (back then) . I wonder if all this cancer increase specuation has to do with bluetooth too? You see more and more people using Bluetooth devices.

I don't dismiss is as over-exaggeration.
I think there are some people that are more vulnerable and sensitive to it than others.
I know me, my mother, and brother all get sore (and a tingly sensation) around the ear and head area from using the cell phone for long period of time.
It's hard to describe the sensation, it just hurts, not a throb but just uncomfortable and a dull ache and I've never felt that using a regular land line phone.

We all use ear buds now so it's not against the ears.

I have an Old Order German Baptist friend (they are plain--live like Amish with no electricity, no cars, etc.) and they raise bees. He is sure the cell phones are killing off his bees. I don't know if it's the cell phones or not--I've also heard the lack of bees attributed to a mite--but I thought it was interesting, anyway.

I hadn't heard about them causing cancer before, though. We have one but we don't use it all the time.

It's well-known tha silver phones are superior to black phones. Silver phones can't jump, though.

I don't hug my microwave either.

Its not cancer that bothers me about cell phones. Its how they affect driving. I'll bet more people are killed in car accidents by cell phones than cancer....

and WHAT is so important people have to talk all day on them anyways?????????????????????

In Australia it is illegal to use a mobile phone when driving, so if the cops see you then bang. It's a 50 dollar (perhaps more) on the spot fine, plus you lose 3 points off your licence (everyone gets 12 points on their licence and if you lose them all you lose your licence).

It is legal, however to use a handsfree whilst driving. Most people agree with this law, from what I've heard so far. I think texting while driving is also not very kosher because of the fact that most people can't concentrate on two things at once. I know most males can't, females are different .

I don't think anyone has sued as of yet for tumours in the head near the ear. I'd say it's inevitable in the future, especially since medics are making such direct links.

I've got to say I'm awfully suspicious of this one. First of all, that popcorn popped faster than it would in a microwave or air popper. Secondly, why is there a newly opened tablecloth covering the entire botton surround of the table? And in the first few seconds you see it is so neatly folded and tucked around the table, unusual.

I have stopped using mobile phones. i have realized that when speaking to my phone i would start experiencing a burning sensation at my ear, and have to be constantly switch ears.

I though it wasn't right so i've stopped using it.

Since the advent of the cell phone, and cell phone towers i have been seing less, and less bees. The towers might probably be the cause.

This was a hoax for a marketing campaign for Cardo headsets.

http://www.snopes.com/science/cookegg.asp
http://www.cardosystems.com/pop/

After the original 3 promotional videos, many people recreated them either really trying with their cell phones (and failing) or setting up a hot plate, etc under the table. You cannot pop popcorn with cellphones.

There is no reason to believe that cellphones are causing the decline in bee population- there are many more plausible theories.

I'm convinced that chlorine in pools causes kids to crave ice cream, because each year as swimming increases, the sales of ice cream increase. As soon as swimming rates decline... the ice cream sales decline. Obviously causal.

I get the same sensation and so I don't hold it to my ear much or put it on loudspeaker. As I said I don't use it much.

This is not a good simili because with phones people have gotten radiation in that specific region around the ear and a lot of people report this tingling sensation. Serious research has also been done about it.

It is obvious people eat ice cream when they are swimming. Most of the time it's hot and ice cream cools you down and also you use energy and that needs replenishing. Not a good example through which to air your cynicism. Though I don't like chlorine, but would rather salt water pools.

Besides what you are talking about is market research. Social research is way more serious. I am not talking about the sales of phones but the health and wellness of people. There is much difference. You are making a joke out of the inquiry that mobile phones are probably costing people their health.

Right about the ice cream, but it is exactly the right kind of analogy here. The fact that as cell phone use has risen, cancer rates (maybe) have risen is not proof that one causes the other. Correlation does not equal causation- basic statistics. Home schooling has risen during the same period. Maybe home schooling causes the tumors. Or a million other things- use of sunscreen, body piercings, microwave popcorn.

What studies have found is that there is NO difference between the rates of cancer in people using cell phones and those that don't.

People are going to get tumors in that area, just as they always have (you can get them anywhere). The question is are there more people getting tumors in that area that use cell phones than those who don't.

I'd bet that's because your phone is getting hot, probably the LCD screen.

No , however the statistics give the probability of the cause more credibility and I tend to believe it is a leading cause for those who use them a lot. I have heard some testimonies of people who have been diagnosed with tumours in that region and they are also very convincing. I have also never liked microwaves either (though now I use one occasionally). I have not done research into microwaves but I know that the radiation is a force I would rather not interact with. It's just an instict. Sometimes instincts are true. I think mobile phones should be used sparingly.

I think at they sale of a mobile phone they should also supply an ear thingo. I remember getting one for my mum when they first came out 10 or so yrs ago and the price was outrageous. 150 bucks or some outlandish price.

When I was a child they said all of us were going to turn into radiation monsters from sitting on the floor in front of the tv sets.

I never turned into a radiation monster.

If you don't talk on the darned thing all the time I doubt you have anthing to worry about. If you do talk on the darned thing all the time, I think cancer is the very least of your worries.
