I am a late comer to this thread. But to all of those who find nothing wrong with calling Jesus "Dude" I have a question. If you were talking to the President of the United States, or the King of England(in a few years when England has a king again) or some other Countries leader would you call them dude. I don't think so. So why in the world would you refer to the King of King, Lord of Lords, God's on Son as dude. That just wreaks with disrespect and offense.

I don't have a close, personal relationship with those people. I don't call out to them when I'm at my lowest point in life. I don't praise those people or worship them. Those people have never seen me at my lowest or at my best. I have a personal relationship with my heavenly father who understands my heart when I'm communicating to him and just say, "dude...I just don't get it."

Tink I have always liked you and usually agree with your posts. But I just can't go with this one. I see absolutely no praise or worship associated with the term Dude. That puts Jesus on my level and He is to far above me for that.

I have a huge thing with prefacing statements with 'dude'. The first time I said it to my dad he flipped but then realised how I meant it. I do it when I'm excited, when I'm freaking out, all that jazz. It's the same principle with God. I mean no disrepect but I'm just talking to Him. I type like I talk, and I also pray like I talk. I don't go into a holier than thou stance, drop my voice an octive...I just talk. Like I would talk to someone on the phone. I don't expect you to agree with me, just to understand that I am not being disrepectful at all...just being being myself.

Tink please believe me when I say I do understand you are just being you. I have read many of your post and I firmly believe you do not mean any disrespect. Allow me to further explain my position. I don't do a lot of things. Not because I think they are wrong but because there are many people that do believe said acts are wrong. For example, I do not drink any alcoholic beverages. I personally do not think the consumption of alcohol is wrong. But I was involved in the SOuthern Gospel Ministry for 42 years and I encountered many people that honestly believe alcohol in any amount is wrong. So to keep from offending them or causing problems for whatever group I was with I just refused to drink. I don't sing anymore but I guess the habit just stuck with me. Another example, I have a personal relationship with several ladies on these forums. I know some people would not consider them personal since I have never met most of them but when I laugh, cry and pray with someone as much as I do the people here it gets personal for me. I am also prone to using terms like "dear" "honey" "Sweetheart" "darling" "babe" etc. I have to watch myself closely when addressing ladies like the Lioness, Kath, Ps103, Phosy, Bluestone, Shar-Mar and the list goes on. Not because I mean any disrespect but because the disrespect may be perceived. When My cell phone rings and I notice my SIL is calling without fail I answer Hey Dear. If I just said hello she would think she had the wrong number. I have nothing but respect for my SIL and she knows it. I guess the point is even though we may personally ot mean any disrespect we still have to be careful of how others would feel about it. THere are enough people that have posted here that find it, or believe it to be disrespectful that I would avoid using the term.

I could be wrong, but isn't "dude" used more like an expression? The way I've heard kids say it, it's not like they are actually calling someone dude, it's just something they say to express their feelings. Like the way they say "sweet". I've got this picture in my head of one of the teens in our church playing his little hand held video game player (I don't know what those are called--I must be getting old!) and saying, "Dude! I'm on the next level!" and I don't think he was talking to anyone at the time. Just...expressing something.

ORIGINAL: DenimDiva The other day at Bible study, the pastor was praying and referred to Jesus as "dude." Do you find this offensive or not? I put offensive because i wouldnt do it personally. But did the pastor do it as a joke? Was he telling a joke when he said it or just trying to be funny? Not that thats alright, but just wondering because i doubt the pastor was doing it to be mean or take anything away from Jesus. I hope.

Like I said in another post, he knew that it would be offensive to at least his own mother. When I've looked back on some of the other things that have gone on in this church, I'm glad that I'm no longer there.
