Hi Little_1,

Not chain letters. But if you're a member of CrossDaily you get some very good emails. Well worth passing on.

I agree that chain letters saying: pass this on to 7 friends and a miracle will happen are a modern electronic nuisance. See my post No. 5 and 12.

I agree with DenimDiva. All I asked for was a Ferrari.

Thanks for replying mvic.

Copying and pasting the content (without the bit about passing it on to receive a blessing) is not going to do any harm but whether it does any good will depend very much on it's content. Wishy-washy 'feel good' stories are not going to convert anyone - only hearing the pure Word of God does this. So if there is a Biblical message - I would say - Hit the SEND button......

It doesn't sound like the devotionals you are meaning are anything like chain letters however mvic.

I'm not so sure... They can often give warm fuzzy feelings, but do they really do any good? I've never seen it.

I've told my family not to send those things to me. It's even gotten to the point that if I read "FW" or "FWD" in the subject line, I just delete it. Why? Because I've gotten tired of emails trying to make me feel bad about not passing them on. "If you're ashamed of Him, He'll be ashamed of you." I'm sorry, but not passing on an email does not constitute being ashamed. It does constitute a desire to NOT fill your friends' inbox up with mindless drivel.

And if someone wants to send me an email, feel free. But make it YOUR thoughts. That's what I want to read.

I forgot about that part of the ending.

That's the part that makes me just delete anything that's forwarded to me without even reading it. Although one that I read on Loverly's request was hilarious... "If you forward this to ten people, you will have made ten people laugh. If you don't... you didn't make ten people laugh."

That's cute. Maybe I'll start deleting all that other stuff and put that in there. My SIL sends me more of that stuff than anyone else. I should just send each thing back to her 10 times.

I don't want to give any misconstrued ideas here. I am not in favour of chain letters which promote 'fear' and 'intimidation' and I'm certainly not afraid of them. What I was intending to say in my post is that if there is sound Biblical content contained in such (and not merely 'wishy-washy stories') then hit the SEND button minus the superstition part that is (delete that part).

OK ... let's focus everyone!

Are we talking about the same thing?

Some of the devotionals I get from CrossDaily (and others) are really very good. I'm sure they won't be happy to have their work described as "silly", "superstitions" and "mindless drivel".

I know what you mean MVIC, not chain letters but devotionals w/ Bible verses. I get mine from KLOVE and if one really speaks to me I will print it and tape it up or take it to someone who may be blessed by it.

As for chain letters/psuedo/wannabe Christian emails, I have a Believing friend who gets emails constantly from an acquaintence who lives with her 'life partner'. The emails detail how to have a 'more Godly life' and how to be blessed. My friend becomes a bit irritated given the source/content of the emails but also feels very sad that this acquaintence is so misled.

Edited for sp error

I also hate the ones that say to send it your friends including the person who sent it to you and that if you don't get it back, you'll know who your "true" friends are... Hello? If your my true friend, you wouldn't base our friendship on whether or not I send you the same stupid email you just sent me.

I am not averse to forwards. I love a good joke, and there are actually some great devotionals out there - few and far between, but they are out there. I also admit to enjoying the "get to know you" ones although there are only a few folks I send those to because I only send stuff to folks I genuinely believe will enjoy them and if that's only one person, I only forward it to one person. Some friends and family will never get a forward from me of any kind because I know some folks hate any kind of forward what-so-ever.

Most of my family and friends are good at "filtering" and there are some folks who forward stuff that I know that just because it's from them, it's going to be either hilarious or very thought provoking. There are other folks that I know mean well, but most of their stuff ends up in my deleted items folder pretty fast. It only takes about a second to see it's one of those obnoxious chain emails. I know they mean well, but...

And another annoying thing are the chain emails that are actually complete fabrications and lies but they still try to guilt you into sending them if you're a "true" Christian. Now there's a great witness - lie to your unbelieving friends... Snopes.com is your friend also people!
