I hate to stick my nose in here, because with the way the posts are going, y'all might tar and feather me. But...

quote:

It appears that we are no longer allowed to give individual love, care and attention to our pregnant and newly-delivered ladies, it has to all be combined in one thread.

Do y'all not realize that you can still give individual love in a PFY thread?

Firstly, it's in a totally different folder, so how would the person know it was there?

Secondly, it's in a totally different folder, so the ladies who have limited time on the computer may just not have the time (or the inclination) to go somewhere different.

Thirdly, the PFY Folder is DOMINATED by very popular threads with sometimes hundreds of pages, so any personal wishes to individual ladies would very quickly get swamped and lost, meaning that anyone even TRYING to find the thread would have to wade through the folder trying to find the relevant thread(s).

And that's apart from it being a mixed folder, so it's not going to be just a question of sharing between ladies.

Tricia ... good timing ... an hour earlier we may have been firing up the coals for that tar ...

But as Roberta pointed out, everything gets mingled together, and for the women who are IN labour and wanting support, it is frustrating to wade through all the posts to find the specific nuggets of encouragement directed at them.

ETA: (And birth stories are NOT appropriate for mixed gender reading ...)

Tricia, I went in there earlier today and it really was somewhat disorganized. There were a lot of topics that just didn't seem to have anything to do with each other. I'm not sure if that makes sense. Yes, it was for those specific women, but with the different location...it just got lost...especially since most of us don't regularly visit that folder.

Maybe Tricia because if its a thread dedicated to them it could be about other things too, not just pregnancy? I think pregnancy is a real personal thing and yes you can type things like "praying for you and baby, hope it happens soon" but the woman won't be able to say "the OB just did an internal and blah blah blah". You will have to go into the women's folder and post that in the new thread, then stuff in the PFY one. Its too much running around and people dont' have the time to do that.
I don't see what is wrong with having threads for each woman anyway, or having another sub folder.

How would they get mingled in with other posts in a PFY thread? (Or is the PFY acronym confusing? That's Personally For You, where there are threads dedicated to one person.) I'm not talking about the one thread in WO/PI.

Isn't there only going to be one thread in the PFY forum? That's what it has sounded like all along to me.

Please use THIS thread rather than all of the individual threads.

The thread will be updated monthly, to keep it from getting unwieldy.

When I followed ps103's link, it looked like it would be one thread for all the women getting ready to deliver.

Did I misunderstand something?

Anyone can have their own thread in PFY, located in the Community Folder.

There is only one Baby Watch thread.

I think some threads did jump the gun a little, maybe it only needs to be done a week or so before the due date, but like Manda said and I said before, it was only because there is so many all due at the same time that it seems like they are taking over.

Most of the threads start at 37 weeks, as that is "full term" so baby can come at any point from there on in (that, and it alerted everyone else as to how close they really were to giving birth) And yeah -- there is a huge list of preggy women right now.

A subfolder was definitely the way to go ... I just hope that it is possible to reinstate the threads with ALL of the posts still in tact.

I still think a subfolder is the best idea, but since nearly everyone has a contact buddy, maybe the policy could be that a person's stalking thread gets started when the contact hears that that woman is in labor. I know it would cut out all of the pre-labor stalking, and dr appt follow-ups, but it could be a compromise.

I very rarely go into PFY, and if encouragement threads were posted there I'd probably miss them, or have trouble wading through all of the long threads there.

The PFY (Personally for You) folder is a forum in the Community Lounge Folder. The idea was for there to be as many threads in the PFY forum as were needed.

Forum H E R E

However, the vast majority of the threads there are chat threads started by the individual. There are a very small number of threads directing good wishes at individuals, but they get swamped by the personal threads. It's natural for this to do so, as the flow on the chat threads is constant and driven by the individual OP.

I cannot see how it would work for pregnant and newly delivered ladies. The threads would just sink.

Yep, you misunderstood.

There's ONE thread in WO/PI for the personal stuff. If you want to start a new thread in PFY for each pregnant lady, you're welcome to do that. But threads for each lady in WO/PI are currently not allowed; they need to be in PFY.

Originally the threads were all moved to PFY, but people complained that there was too much personal stuff in them to be outside of WO/PI, so they were removed. So you can have a "pregnancy support for Sally Sue" thread in PFY.

quote:

ORIGINAL: Nicole6598

but the woman won't be able to say "the OB just did an internal and blah blah blah"

Well, if they're comfortable sharing that info in PFY, they can.... I do understand the desire for the perceived privacy in WO/PI, though.

I know some of you hate them or don't use them, but using Subscriptions is a great way to keep track of threads. Then the threads "sinking down" the PFY list wouldn't be a problem at all.

You could easily post a link to the "stalking" thread in the WO/PI Baby Watch thread so people would know that there is one and where to find it. From there, subscribe to it.

Honestly, I don't know what I'd do around here without the subscription feature.

I think maybe just think of the best thing you can do if there is no subforum made for the threads. You can make a thread in PFY and anything that can't go in there can go in WO pre-existing/one-stop threads, or just not post things that can't be shared in mixed company. Of course it won't be the same as it is now, but make the best you can of the way it's going to have to be. :)

It still stinks, Tricia. It was handled very badly, with no warning, and the actions of the mods being driven by a complaining few, ignoring the women they would hurt. There's a very good compromise to be had, and it's just been brushed aside.

The PFY folder is a mess, and it's not private, and it's just silly to have a mixed gender "pregnancy support for Sally Sue" in PFY, but all the personal info going into one generic thread in W/O.

Tricia, I'm gonna ask flat out, since you are a mod and obviously this is the topic du jour ... (and I'm sorry if I'm not 'allowed' to ask this, but this is driving us all nutty)

Was there any discussion prior to this on the mod side of things ... namely, regarding alternatives to deleting everything? Like, was a suggestion ever made to create a subfolder for things like this??? So many of the women are now feeling violated because their records of birth and everything have just up and vanished. It just seems far too hasty a decision.

Some of us just do not have the time or the mental alertness to have to keep chopping and changing between different folders in different sections. *ESPECIALLY* not pregnant and newly delivered ladies.

That's where subscribing to threads is helpful. Once you've found a thread and sub to it you can find it no matter where it is.

Okay, well than CAN you answer this??? I'm not asking if it will be done, just is it possible ... is it technically possible for Fritz to reinstate a deleted thread with all of the posts intact? Or once they are gone are they really gone from everywhere? Once again, not whether they will bring back our threads ... just if it is technologically able to happen.

Last communication I had from Fritz was to say that the matter was being reviewed, and asking for my patience while the review and decision were being made.

So I *was* waiting for Fritz - that was when the threads had "only" been moved, and not deleted.

I know. I was just saying that if there is no subfolder made and it has to be this way... then it's like just take the lemons and make the best lemonade you can with them. It won't be the same, and it may be too inconvenient for some, but it may be the way that it has to be. <shrugs>... unless majority rules (but I thought they didn't here). Lol.

Yes, it is technically possible for a thread to be reinstated after having been removed from the public viewing area. That has happened in the past - we've sometimes removed threads to clean them up away from public eyes, then returned them to the public viewing area.

ditto ... and when I emailed him after the deletion, I didn't even get an automated message telling me it's being reviewed ... I got nothing -- nada -- zip, zilch, zero!
