I'll accept that - I've always been like that. I'm just goofy.

Some of you are probably still sleeping when I'm driving into work (at least at the college job), and most definitely tomorrow morning when I have to leave my house at 6:45am!

In which time zone Lisa? I'm usually up at 5:15 to 5:30 Central time. I used to like to "sleep in", but in my old age I just don't seem to be able to anymore. Good thing God created coffee... to stay even close to our thread topic, wonder if any of those food items stored up in Haggai were coffee... surely God did understand that!

I'm in Eastern - and believe me, I need that stored up coffee. I'll be up at 4:30 tomorrow morning - time to read through the book again, and get prepared for the day. Looking forward to what God has to say through it - especially as I am entering an entire new world for me! (this is a teacher's recruiting event)

He sure is!! All those puzzle pieces spread around the giant table? So many from over the last several years have come together. A complete picture isn't there - yet - but watching Him guide my hand to pull this piece and that piece, creating a beautiful scene. It leaves me speechless.

The song I Can Only Imagine, will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all ... I will be wanting to sing, but no sound will escape my lips.

And, dudette, it sounds just fine coming from you.

Upon a quick read through chapter 2 ... do you see take courage listed three times? I love that!

Take courage: bravery; an ability to confront ... fear, pain, danger, uncertainty

It's taking action. Not backing down.

As children of God, we can take courage. We have Him on our side when we are seeking His will. His will is, of course, all important. And we can move mountains if that's what His will is for us. We have no need to be afraid. We will wake up each morning and put on the armor of God and bravely head out to whatever battle we are faced with.

Two other things that jumped out at me immediately were in verse 9. The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former ... and in this place I will give peace.

This house will be greater - how awesome is that! Can you imagine the splendor!! And He will give peace.

peace ... self explanatory here

And then verse 19. Is the seed still in the barn? ... it has not borne fruit. Yet from this day on I will bless you.

The seed, unplanted, no fruit ... yet He will bless them.

It seems to me that He is giving them another chance. Although they have allowed the temple to fall into disarray, they have not been fruitful ... and yet, He still offers them His peace and His blessings.

Do we deserve that? No. But through His great grace and mercy, He extends it to us. His love is unconditional. He never gives up on us.

Let us rebuild His temple and give Him the honor He so rightly deserves.

Let us open the door to our hearts when He knocks. Every single time. As believers, we have done this. But have we become so wrapped up in our own busyness that we forget to check and make sure the door has remained open? He is watching. He is patient. He is reminding us to keep the door open ... to Him.

Wow Sam...........I was going to post what God showed me until I read these words and they jumped out at me powerfully.........The seed, unplanted,.........yet in the barn.............wow

The seed is already there.......everything we are to be, to do, and to receive.... the seed has already been placed in us, in the barn..........when we came to Christ......when we accepted Jesus putting us back in right alignment......in right relationship.........wow

I am sorry that is just so powerful........

We are no longer under the curse of the first Adam but are under the freedom of the second......

And when he took up residence within us he brought with him, into us, every single seed needed for us to be exactly who he created us to be.

Isn't that just an awesome thought.......the seed is already there.....inside our old, rusty, run down barns is every fruit baring seed God desires for us.........

The seed is there....and in His timing.....as we walk closer and closer with him.... he will plant those seeds in the fertile soil of our hearts......then he will water those seeds with His Word, His voice, and lead us to people, circumstances, and experiences which will fertilize them......until they grow huge and bountiful..........producing much fruit.

Wow Sam thank you so much for posting..........What God showed you is speaking so much to me.....giving me such hope......

Thank you Lord for speaking to us each and allowing the things you speak to us when shared to speak even more...........Thank you Father for all the seeds already planted and growing in our lives and thank you for the reminder all the other seeds are in the barn waiting for just the right soil and time to plant in order to produce the best crops.......WOW I love you so much Lord.

....... okay, posting first (aaagaaain!) and then going back to read!

This morning I got out my laptop and read the ENTIRE BOOK in Contemporary English Version. It's a version I use a lot when I write devotionals for my inmates:

1v12 Zerubbabel and Joshua, together with the others who had returned from exile in Babylonia, obeyed the LORD's message spoken by his prophet Haggai, and they started showing proper respect for the LORD.
    .....

Zerubbabel and Joshua were the leaders in the attitude change. The others easily followed them. Often when circumstances or people around us seem difficult... we find ourselves taking on their negativity... if we can find the strength to take on the positive attitude of the LORD... we can break chains by our example.

The LORD honored the life changes by the people by making everyone eager to work on His temple. (Haggai 1:14)

2v18 18Today you have completed the foundation for my temple, so listen to what your future will be like.
    .....

The people built the foundation... and then God spoke to them again. God required them to show good faith through effort. I think this was a necessary step in order to affirm their newly found respect for Him. Only after they 'gave'... did He tell them of His promise for future blessings for them. (Haggai 2v21-23)

Life is full of give and take... it's sooo easy for us to get stuck in the 'take' mode!

Another thing I noticed about this part of Chapter two... God doesn't dwell on rubbing their noses in the past... He focused on the 'here and now'... moving their minds towards the future.

This concept (or is it a principle?) can be applied to our lives and the people we live with every day.... especially when raising children...

Okay... going back to read!!!

...whimp I am not! :D

Morning everyone. Ok, not only did I "read" again, I pulled out 2 different study bibles after reading through again without "commentaries". One was a Chuck Swindoll Study Bible, one was a NIV version Life Application Study Bible. What was kind of cool was that some of what I was thinking about was "in" the commentaries. Things like "...the desired of the nations..." I was wondering if it could be a reference to the Messiah. One of the commentaries mentioned that! It said that the Hebrew word used could refer to individuals or to articles of value, that it could mean the contributions of King Darius to the temple, or could refer to Jesus - and I thought or to both! In later reading, the part about "shaking the earth, sea and nations" (mentioned in 2 places), could have been something (I believe it was Persia that invaded or something again- a bit rusty about that kind of thing) to happen "soon", or could be the 2nd coming of Jesus. Again, why couldn't it be both? After all, God knew both of them were going to happen! What we call the Bible is the living word of God. Why would it be limited to a point in time? Then the line "Word of God speak..." came to my mind, and I thought how cool that he was "speaking" to those of Haggai's time at the same time he was speaking to me, thousands of years in the future. Pretty Cool.

Another thing one Study Bible mentioned was that in those days, God manifested his presence in the place of worship. If there was no temple, the tangible or visable presence of God, a shining light, was not among his people. They didn't have the Holy Spirit in them yet. It also said that the captives were taken 66 years before Haggai's message. That there had been 16 years between their starting the building of the temple when they had first come home to Zion and when Haggai began to speak. Wow, 16 years in between. 16 years of putting off the building of God's house. Did you also notice that what God first said was "These people have said..." not "MY people", "THESE people". In 2:14, He says "This people". They were still not referred to as "His" yet. There was futility in all their pursuits- planting but not much to harvest, drinking/eating but not being filled, clothed but not being warmed, money that did not go far enough (boy can I relate to that one!)...

They had returned to Zion, the Holy land, the home of God's temple, but they were not obeying the Lord. They were not "a holy people"- not "My people". I was kind of mulling this around in my mind, not as well put together as this, but kind of mulling/rolling it around when I read the part of the commenarty that said that consecreted meat was meat set aside for sacrifice- "holy" meat. Because the consecrated meat came into direct contact with the garment it would make the garment "holy", but this would not extend to a 3rd item touched only by the garment. Transmitting (cermonial) holiness was not as easily done as transmitting (cermonial) uncleaness. It made me think - how much easier is it for each of us to sin that to be "holy"? Hmm, that which I want to do (that is good/holy), I do not do; but that which I do not wish to do (sin)... that I do. Who will ransome me from this life of sin and death?--- Thank you Jesus!! Have I heard this somewhere before ?

I think (not sure if I'm remembering right at the moment) the last time Haggai spoke the Lords words, he said "So it is with this nation, this people" that everything they had done to that point was "unclean", not acceptable to God. But when they had again rebuilt, or at least started the rebuilding- not sure how far they were at that point, and winter planting time came; the Lord said From this day on He would bless them.

"Give careful thought to your ways" says the Lord" ... are we listening? Am I listening?

Yes. How often do those in positions of *leadership* ... and I am referring to those who toot their horn the loudest as well as those who are in actual leadership, be it government, our supervisors at work, our pastors, our parents ... forget that others are watching and following their example, which is demonstrated through their actions as well as their words. Negativity leads to more negativity. Positive and encouraging words and attitudes lead to more positive and encouraging words and attitudes.

But if we keep our eyes focused on the Lord ... what an example He has set!! He demonstrates unconditional love. He demonstrates true justice. He demonstrates maintaining a relationship with His Heavenly Father above all else, even when tired He makes it a priority. Do we do that? Is that how we strive to be?

This is a most excellent point, Rachel. Thank you.

Pretty Cool ... what an understatement!

It is truly amazing and awesome that the Word does speak to the times of so many years ago as much as it does now.

Word of God speak ...

May it never cease speaking to us. And may we always keep our hearts open to hearing It!

quote:

that which I want to do (that is good/holy), I do not do; but that which I do not wish to do (sin)... that I do.

Yes, it is so much easier to do what we should not do.

Why?

We know what to do, but we do not do it.

Why do we continue on in this manner?

Is the world more powerful than our God? No way!!

Is it peer pressure? Are we still being overcome with peer pressure, no matter our age? Hmm ... easier to go with the flow than against it.

But our God is so much more powerful than the world ... He is reaching out His hand to help us. Are we reaching for it when we need to lean on His strength?

quote:

"Give careful thought to your ways" says the Lord" ... are we listening? Am I listening?

Something we all need to be asking ourselves ...

wow Kalee that really made me stand up and notice.............the thought which came to mind reading about the consecrated meat.....how it would make the garment holy but would not extend to any touched by the garment........If the Holy spirit is our Holy Meat per say......and accepting Christ's sacrifice makes us Holy......the Holy spirit in us making us Holy.........yet everything we touch does not become Holy.......but it can be made unclean by our actions..........makes me think......Even though our choices, our putting our own lives, ministries, relationships etc first before God's house doesn't remove the glory of God on us but does prevent him, the Holy Spirit, from touching others through us.

Does that make sense?

I know there is more to that....more God wants to show me.........I am just not sure yet what he is saying to me..........but I do know my family, the girls, my friends........mean way to much to me for my choices to rob them of feeling the Holy touch of God.

If I can't die enough for my own sake will I for theirs?
