... or unhappy?

I was emailed the following letter from Jay Leno....

Jay Leno wrote this; it's the Jay Leno we don't often see....

[Edited by moderator - posting entire article/copyright]

If statistics show that something like 71% of Americans are Christians, that means that a good portion of the unhappy people Jay is talking about are Christians.

So... are you happy or unhappy???

These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. Jesus as quoted in John 15:11

Abiding in His love is the place of true joy. Yes, I am happy.

I don't live in the land of happiness.I'm not in a perpetual state of sadness,or unhappiness, but I'm not just always bubbling over with happiness my every waking moment either.

On balance I would say that I'm happy.

My mom died yesterday. I am sad and will miss her but very happy that her suffering is finally over.

I think that many people can be happy but I don't believe that anyone can be truly happy without the joy that comes from having a relationship with Jesus Christ. This is the joy that my mom had because her hope was in that place that she is in right now holding His hand.

Wow, I was ready to answer the OP and then I read that Walker's mom died. I have come to respect you over the years Walker. Sorry to hear about your loss.

As I write this, no I'm not happy. God has taken me through some pretty deep valley's. Lately, the valley seems to be getting deeper. I can put on a good face for the public to see, butI'm not finding the joy in the journey.

((((((((Walker))))))))) I am sorry for your loss. Celebrate her life, she raised an amazing, godly man!

For the most part, I am a happy woman. Happier than I have ever been in my life. No more chaos, no more heartbreak. Sad times, yes. The Lord is with me through it all. His peace when the storms rage, His love when I feel alone. His hands on me when I feel scared. I am safe because He is with me. Content is probably a better word or maybe serene. It's not happy in the sense that I bounce like a cheerleader in a game, however sometimes it is .

Happiness is based upon happenings. It is dependent upon what is happening to and around you. With the circumstances that the majority of humanity finds itself in, to think that they should or could be happy, seems unreasonable to me.

There is something that is better than happiness, and that is joy. Where happiness is dependent upon your happenings, joy is not. Joy comes from within, as a by-product of our relationship with Jesus Christ. One can have joy even when what is happening to and around them, is horrific.

Happiness is transient and fleeting. Joy is stable and enduring.

Peace

I'm not that interested in my emotional response to things overall. What I really seek is to delight myself in the Lord and if and when I do that then I know all things will go just as He plans.

Accepting His will and walking by faith is the challenge...not how happy or unhappy I feel based on some event surrounding me.

I pray God comforts you in the loss of your Mother walker. I know that even in death of a loved one we can walk in peace.

The closer we draw to God the more contentment we will find.

I am not always happy. But I do find joy in the Lord ... which is far better than happiness.

Some versions of the Bible render 'blessed' as 'happy'. That changes how I view what happiness means. If happy means blessed, that is a state of being, not a momentary or fleeting feeling. Blessed is knowing God's goodness and love for me---like my tag, living loved.

I am very sorry for your loss Walker and I am praying for you and yours.

I am also very sorry that you are not happy right now Zamdad. I pray that God will comfort you more than ever as you travel through the "deep valley".

When I'm unhappy I sit back and remember the number of times in the past when the Lord saved me from difficult situations and got me through tight spots. And boy has He been busy! He has never let me down.

Right now I am satisfied with that inner feeling of confidence that, come what may, He will be by my side once again and help me through it.

Sure my confidence is shaken from time to time. But I plod through.

Yes ... I am happy. And I hope you are too ... or soon will be.

God bless.

Wow from here too.

Walker311... I am so sorry. Praise God that you can rejoice in the fact that she is saved and that you will be with her again for eternity!!

Zamdad... Hi! I'm sorry that you are feeling this way. I can certainly relate to those feelings. Lately I have been on a roller coaster of feelings and emotions... and the valley can be treacherous. My husband is having a tougher time in the valley... because of course, he is the spiritual leader and feels a deeper responsibility.

Over all... I am happy/blessed... for what God is doing in our lives (even though we can't see it... we know He is working), for our children, grandchildren, my husband... etc. We are blessed... even in the valley.

Side note:
It's funny that people are even posting here since the whole post isn't there.
This email I got, true or not... talked about Americans being unhappy with the presidency and the way tings are in our country. Whoever originally wrote the email was saying how spoiled we are as Americans, and pointed out all the amenities we enjoy here as opposed to other country's.
The overall message was that we should thank God for what we have, and where we live and stop sniffling that we are "unhappy."
MY point was that this person spouted that 69% of Americans are unhappy according to New York Times (or some popular news mag)... and I have heard that something like 71% of Americans are Christian... So... that's where my question came from.

zamdad,

I am beginning to see that it is out of a low place that one can best believe. It is water poured down into a low narrow channel that can rise into a fountain. Faith that comes from the depths has a spring in it!

Those words come from Lilias Trotter and I hope they are encouraging words to you. I'll be believing in the spring bubbling up in God's way and time! Bless ya , LL

First thing, Mr. Walker, I too am sorry for your loss and I pray for your peace in such times.

In regards to this topic. Well in todays age there is SOMUCH INFORMATION out there that has our minds questioning everything. I'd encourage those of faith in Christ to live in spirit not mind. You are not your mind.
