ORIGINAL: freakofnature VICTORY! ALAS Something to cheer about, Gun rights upheld! Story HERE This is excellent news for second-amendment rights. Hopefully, this will mean the right-to-carry will eventually extend to New York. The court's been on a libertarian streak recently, which is only good news for people who favor civil liberties and smaller government.

Which further proves that conservatives can't count past two when it comes to constitutional amendments. Fourth amendment? That's too high of a number!!!

ORIGINAL: freakofnature Amendment four is illegal search and seizure Which this current government seems ready to trample on in their WOT with tacit blessings from the right!! BTW, What makes you think I'm a lib? Or is that the usual "label him a pinko, commie, socialist, liberal, etc." ad hominem attacks that conservatives are so famous for?

Well, for as many disappointments as I've had with President Bush, I can at least thank him for two great appointments to the Supreme Court. I'm very pleased with this decision.

One of the greatest quotes in Scalia's opinion is this: quote:
In interpreting this text, we are guided by the principle that “[t]he Constitution was written to be understood by the voters; its words and phrases were used in their normal and ordinary as distinguished from technical meaning.” Yes.

I hope this ruling leads to a decrease in crime in our nation's capital - I personally believe it will.

The only credo that's non-negotiable in my opinion is the Nicene one. If I am going to be a sheep, I'll follow the "Good Shepherd". Rush doesn't hold THAT title!! Besides if I'm wishy-washy so is McCain. Iraq - conservative. Immigration - liberal. See Republicans can be "wishy-washy" too! BTW, I am not against the ruling. It gives the right to bear arms but still allows for registration which is a very balanced approach. Otherwise, felons would have the right to bear arms too!

IMO, all this ruling will accomplish is to increase DC's annual body count and make no one more secure. I don't buy the thought that everyone packing heat makes the world a safer place. If I wanted to live in that type of society, I'd move to Baghdad.

I am not a fan of McCain for several reasons, his immigration stance being one of a few, first of all... Secondly. I am not beholden to Rush either, just keep in mind that I am a conservative first not a republican. My thoughts are my own, I am not sorry though that that happens to be in line with some of the greatest conservative minds our country has to offer. I was conservative well before I heard of Rush Limbaugh.

Mind you, I'm not against the Second Amendment or lawful gun ownership - I just don't like the suggestion by some that guns added on top of existing guns will lead to America being a crime-free utopia. Call me crazy, but I'm uncomfortable the notion of using fear as a motivator for civil obedience (in a domestic scenario).

Probably the fact that, so far, you'cve defended every liberal position that's come along. Isn't it odd that liberals don't like to be called liberals?
