Story HERE

This is excellent news for second-amendment rights. Hopefully, this will mean the right-to-carry will eventually extend to New York.

The court's been on a libertarian streak recently, which is only good news for people who favor civil liberties and smaller government.

Which further proves that conservatives can't count past two when it comes to constitutional amendments. Fourth amendment? That's too high of a number!!!

Which this current government seems ready to trample on in their WOT with tacit blessings from the right!!

BTW, What makes you think I'm a lib? Or is that the usual "label him a pinko, commie, socialist, liberal, etc." ad hominem attacks that conservatives are so famous for?

Fortunately, they are appointed for life. I am optimistic about this case, but I will have to read the holding and see how it applies to the rest of the country.

Well, for as many disappointments as I've had with President Bush, I can at least thank him for two great appointments to the Supreme Court. I'm very pleased with this decision.

One of the greatest quotes in Scalia's opinion is this:
quote:

In interpreting this text, we are guided by the principle that “[t]he Constitution was written to be understood by the voters; its words and phrases were used in their normal and ordinary as distinguished from technical meaning.”
Yes.

The NYT story quotes Scalia saying the ruling doesn't apply to laws against conceal carry.

This is a good example why we should vote for McCain not a third party.

You know Obama's SCOTUS wouldn't have voted for this.

I hope this ruling leads to a decrease in crime in our nation's capital - I personally believe it will.

Then I prefer to be a "wishy-washy" independent thinker not worshipping Rush or beholden to any political credo of the right OR left. The only credo that's non-negotiable in my opinion is the Nicene one. If I am going to be a sheep, I'll follow the "Good Shepherd". Rush doesn't hold THAT title!!

Besides if I'm wishy-washy so is McCain. Iraq - conservative. Immigration - liberal. See Republicans can be "wishy-washy" too!

BTW, I am not against the ruling. It gives the right to bear arms but still allows for registration which is a very balanced approach. Otherwise, felons would have the right to bear arms too!

IMO, all this ruling will accomplish is to increase DC's annual body count and make no one more secure.

I don't buy the thought that everyone packing heat makes the world a safer place. If I wanted to live in that type of society, I'd move to Baghdad.

There's a lot of things to balance. I'm willing to put up with an anti-gun SC for a few years if it means cutting the deficit by raising taxes and ending the war.

I am not a fan of McCain for several reasons, his immigration stance being one of a few, first of all... Secondly. I am not beholden to Rush either, just keep in mind that I am a conservative first not a republican. My thoughts are my own, I am not sorry though that that happens to be in line with some of the greatest conservative minds our country has to offer. I was conservative well before I heard of Rush Limbaugh.

A few years? These are LIFETIME appointments to the court. It's not like they leave with the administration that had them appointed.

Yeah, but you typically get an appointment every few years.

Deficits create debt that lasts not only for a lifetime- but FOREVER- at least until it is paid off with a surplus.

Mind you, I'm not against the Second Amendment or lawful gun ownership - I just don't like the suggestion by some that guns added on top of existing guns will lead to America being a crime-free utopia.

Call me crazy, but I'm uncomfortable the notion of using fear as a motivator for civil obedience (in a domestic scenario).

Probably the fact that, so far, you'cve defended every liberal position that's come along.

Isn't it odd that liberals don't like to be called liberals?
