Oh, I'm not saying it wouldn't make my day!!

I just wouldn't know what in the world to even say. That's all. What can you say, other than "Thank you" and cast my eyes down shyly and blush?

so for purposes of starting a conversation as both threads were asking about, it might not be the best approach. i suppose if starting with an opening line somewhat bold, one oughta follow through with more boldness?

I agree while giving complements is great it doesn't do a lot to start a conversation.
