((((((((((Trish)))))))))))))) I am always thinking about you and hope and pray you get better too.

Jennifer, that is so sad about your friend.

Nicole!!!!! Mary is adorable! And that is so awesome about the restaurant! How awesome is that?!

Sorry ladies, I am just too behind to respond to everyone.

My aunt is in the hospital. She was supposed to be out within 3 days, but is still in and its almost been 2 weeks. Lorne and I went to see her this weekend. She was so excited that we drove to come visit her. The first day we saw her she looked terrible and so weak. It was so sad to see. We went to visit her again on sunday before we drove home. She was looking better and was up and walking! We are hoping she gets to go home today or tomorrow. I will call my uncle tonight to see what is happening. The reason she is in so long is because a nurse was pretty much abusing her and made her way worse. We all prayed for her and now that nurse is not allowed near her anymore.

Our drive home was terrifying. We got caught in the scariest storm I have ever seen. We had to pull off of the highway. It was hailing and raining so much that it was loud and freaky. Hail got as large as my fist and it looked like someone was throwing snowballs at our car. Then our car started to shake back and forth. We both thought a tornado was coming right towards us since this area is terrible for deadly tornadoes. The car behind us was covered in branches even though the nearest trees were at leaste 100m away. Lorne said that the road signs beside the car were bent right to the ground. Lorne was praying, but I couldn't even hear him even though he was talking right in my ear. I really though we weren't going to make it. I was so scared that my teeth chattered for 20 minutes after it was over. I just couldn't stop shaking. Once we got driving again the rain totally stopped and we were on dry road again. We drove by a horrific crash which made me feel even more freaked out. I still feel upset thinking about it all. I hope we never get stuck in a storm like that again. We found out later that there were tons of tornado warnings in the area, but never heard if one touched down. Oh, and it was bad because the large hail was hitting my side of the car so we were both scared the window was going to shatter. Lorne was scared a branch was going to come through my window. I am glad he didn't tell me that till later or I would have gotten even more scared. I just clinged onto him till it was over

Oh, and now our car is dinged up, but we don't think we are going to make a claim because it isn't bad enough for us to really care about right now

That's so awesome about the restaurant, Nicole! I hope the meeting goes well. I'm glad Rae and Zach are getting on so well with Mary too. When the restaurant opens, will you stop working at the optometrists and work with your dh instead?

I think in the beginning I will stay working here. I have the ability to work here during the day then for him in the evenings. The restraunt will be open only in the evenings. If business is good then I will quit here and he and I will run the place.

Nicole -- Yikes! How scary! I am surprised your windows didn't break with all that hail. I am glad you are both okay.

Jennifer - when I was baptised, Dh bought me a Bible. We were dating then so he used my maiden name. But it seemed weird to both of us because we knew we would be married and I would be carrying around a Bible with my old name in it! And I'm so attached to this one now that I don't want another one. Now that I think about it, I'm going to have him write in our last name.

Nicole - that is awesome news about the restaurant. That is a job I think would be really cool.

Canadian Nicole - sorry to hear about your aunt. What an awful experience for her. And the storm for you! We've been having some crazy weather over here too. Everytime I see your city on the weather map, I think of you!

I have a friend who lives in the building next to me (run by the same management company.) When we stand in our windows we can see each other. She called last night and asked "whose apartment is on fire in my building?"
I looked out the window and there were fire trucks and police officers everywhere, and smoke coming out the window on a top floor apartment. We found out this morning that it was a grow op. It's weird because a few months ago I was looking out our window at night and noticed that apartment because the lights were so bright and white, and I thought, who could live in that? Then I suggested to Dh, as a joke, that maybe it was a grow op.

I can't wait to get out of this neighbourhood. Last summer we were on the news because they caught a letter bomber on our street with bombs in his trunk! It's actually safe where we live, but stupid things keep happening here.

I hear that some places can have this replace the foreign lang. credits. I don't know anyone here who's done that, but I'm not sure that it's taught here. I'd check it out for other schools 'round here, but they don't even have the lang. requirement to begin with.

Lexie, I think of you everytime I see your area on the weather map too! That is nuts about that grow up, but I guess with all the people in your area there is bound to be something illegal going on. I am just glad the fire didn't spread... Oh and that really stinks about the crazy bomber. I hope you guys do get to move to a safer feeling neighbourhood soon. We have a lot of crime around here too. There was a shootout a few blocks away. Two gangs members were standing out of the roofs in their vehicles while shooting at eachother. Our neighbourhood feels safe. It just starts feeling a bit iffy about 10 blocks South of us. I can't wait to move to our next town! Nothing happens there. A guy Lorne works with has lived there for a few years and said the worst thing that has happened was when a bunch of teenagers spray painted a building... the police made them paint the building as their punishment.

My dd's high school allows it as a substitute for a foreign language.

Funny story (ok maybe not so funny) about the fire not spreading.

During the fire, while we could still see water spraying out of the windows and off the balcony, the man who lives in the apartment next to the one on fire went out onto the balcony to have a cigarette (the balcony that they share with the on fire apartment.) People in this neighbourhood are so stupid.

It's actually very safe. Our last neighbourhood (just down the street) had some issues. A week after we left, someone was stabbed outside our old apartment (our ground floor apartment.) But things like that are isolated. I feel very safe there (we go there all the time for library and pool and laundromat and stuff) and I feel very safe here.

But I am sick of living amongst so many people. For those who don't know, our neighbourhood consists of one street with only apartment buildings. The street used to be a racetrack to give you an idea of the size, and there are at least 30,000 people on our street (according to the census, but I'm sure there are more because it's an immigrant neighbourhood)

LOL that guy is a dummy for standing on his balcony to smoke. He should have been leaving the building.

I am glad you feel safe in your neighbouhood. Our neighbourhood is brand new, but very squishy so we will be happy when we do move. Every house looks the same and the yards are a joke. Stupid new neighbourhoods in large cities...

it amazes me the neighborhoods with big houses and no yards. I like a small house with a big yard. I have the blisters on my hands from raking up sticks yesterday.

I agree that Mary is a cutie!! I was there the first time she fully rolled over

Megan - I am getting ready. I have a bunch of things I need to do today so that I can buy a lot more tomorrow. Then Fri/Sat I will help my parents with whatever they need me to do. Next week I am gone all week to a conference and then I move Saturday!! Hard to believe that it is already time for me to move!! I am excited about it though because I am tired of not feeling settled and constantly searching for different things.

I had a great time on vacation. It was nice to be able to get out of Oklahoma and see a different part of the country for a few days. I went and saw Mt. Rushmore for the first time. It really is pretty amazing how they carved those faces - in the 1930s!! Most of the work was done with dynomite and jack hammers. And figuring out the porportions so that it could be seen from a long ways a way - that was pretty neat to find out.

Sounds like everybody is doing pretty good. I may not be on a lot over the next couple of weeks since I am pretty busy, but I am looking forward to Aug when life falls back into routine and I can be on more. Have a great day!

I'm with you there, Beth, with SO much to do...and so little time!!! Our inservices start on Monday the 4th and we're moving into our new house on Friday the 1st...so I'm starting to get a little panicky. I almost wish we had moved at the beginning of July instead of the end of July now.

Hmmm.....Jennifer....you said today is a special day....is is your dating anniversary? Just a guess. And yeah, he probably should have gotten it with his last name....but because it came from him before you got married....you'll probably treasure it forever. I imagine you'll end up like Lexie. In fact, I received a Bible for my college graduation and I use that Bible almost as much as any other Bible...and it has my maiden name in it.

I'll be glad to move out of our neighborhood here as well. It's within blocks of the "really bad" area of town. There are gangs over there and shootings on a fairly regular basis; however, it's safe & quiet over in my neighborhood. I'm thankful we're moving before J starts school though. He would have been going to school with all of these gang member's kids (most likely). And who knows what their home lives are like...not to mention what they would have taught my son. They are the innocents & I really do feel for them. It's just nice to know we're moving to a place where everyone knows everyone. Our new neighbors are already excited to meet us. Several of them have kids, so we're really looking forward to it.

Beth (cuz) -- I have never seen Mt. Rushmore. I think that may be our first family vacation to plan. It was so good to see you and the fam. Too bad it was so short!! I basically had a hi/bye with Jana.

Nicole, what a story about the storm! Glad you guys made it through...

Thanks car2ner By the way, I want your house AND yard! What a beautiful area! The place we sold a few months ago had a good sized front yard, a side yard and a huge backyard. The only thing I miss about living in that town is our yard. We have a yard here, but it is one of those joke yards. The garage takes up most of it. And it doesn't have sod and there aren't any steps from the kitchen down to the yard so we don't even use the garage for our car. We recently got sod in our front yard so that is where our dogs go when they want outside. Luckily we are just renting this place. The townhouse we bought doesn't have yard. It has a patio and a deck above the patio which is good enough for our 2 dogs. Plus it has walking trails all around the area so we aren't too concered. We are hoping we will be able to afford a home in about 5 years. We just can't afford over $400,000 right now... and don't want to buy a home that is already falling apart. I cannot believe we sold a house and might never be able to afford to buy another because the prices are ridiculous.

Beth, I would love to see Mt. Rushmore! You lucky lady! Did you take pictures?

Aww, thanks Nicole. I'm glad you're safe from the storms. How awful for your aunt. I'm glad that nurse doesn't see her anymore.

Nicole (RIR), that sounds great that you'll hopefully have your own restaurant with your dh and help him with it.

Lexie - what is a grow op?

I'm assuming it's short for grow operation (can you tell I'm from a big city when I'm not sure the actual term for it?). When people grow a whole lot of marijuana in a house or apartment.

Daughter of faith (sorry I don't know your real name) - I understand about moving before the kids start school. If we are still in this neighbourhood when Akeelah starts school, I plan to either send her to a French Immersion school or a Christian school. Homeschool if we plan to move soon. I don't want her at the school in our neighbourhood because of the make up of the school, but if I send her to school in the next neighbourhood she ends up in our old neighbourhood with gangs and other problems.

It's Megan, Lexie....and that sounds like a no-win situation...aside from the Christian school, home school, or French immersion school.

It's a scary prospect, but I think he'll be fine. The other "scary" deal is since this is a brand new school, I can't even go build it's school report card (get basic facts about demographics as far as race, income, testing scores, etc.)

We're seriously hoping to be out of this neighbourhood within the next two years, so we'll be ok. But I also understand your worry of not knowing anything about the school. A lot of people I know in real life think that I'm thinking way too much about this (they just send their kids to the school they're told to) but it's very important to me which school my daughter goes to. Thankfully, Dh works in the school board where we hope to move so he'll know all that stuff for us!
