I've figured out that if I squint just right, I can read a lot more stuff. This makes it easier for me to justify not walking to another room to get my glasses.

I agree 110%. By the same token, there is Paul's instruction in Titus 3:10 about those who refuse to listen to sound doctrine over their personal philosophy, an instructions that tends to shut down meaningful communication after a couple of attempts to penetrate youthful pride.
I don't see where this verse pertains specifically to young people. Nor do I realize how someone presenting their view of Scripture and subsequently being treated with impatience and harshness, which they realize are exact opposites of the fruits of the Spirit, understands that he will know the teachers of the Truth by their fruits and therefore takes what they say into less consideration, rather than from "youthful pride".
